Sitting down to record this, I felt like surely I must have made a video of this classic at some point. But apparently not! Indeed, in all my years of trying to earn my trad music bona fides, I have tended to only release my more obscure repertoire.
But much as I love a song discovery from a dusty book or scratchy recording, I've come to appreciate these well-worn pub classics a great deal over the last few years. I can't pinpoint who or where I learned it from - it's so in the ether of Irish-American culture that I'm probably pulling inspiration as much from Tommy Makem as from one of the many friends and acquaintances I've heard sing it on a St. Paddy's Day. Hope you all enjoy this rendition!

Lindsay - so well done. Your singing and playing was great and thanks for showcasing the Guitar so well.
Thanks so much, Jeff!
Wonderful - as always. Love that guitar!
Beautiful voice and song ❤️
love your songs girl keep doing what your doing
Beautiful as always.....very peaceful. Proof that everything doesn't haven't to be a complicated composition to be something wonderful. Thank you Lindsay......
This came today. Thank you!
Love this!
And that ‘Ear Trumpet’ mic captures the sound so beautifully.

Wonderful! I love those Celtic tunes!
Gorgeous singing and playing as always Lindsay. And what a special debut for your new ambassador guitar! It’s got such a present and warm sound.
Thanks, Robert!
That's an interesting piece of furniture. And oh yes, everything is magical as always with the playing and singing and such ;)
Thanks so much! 😊
Beautifully played and sung. You make that guitar sound amazing.
I’ve always known the melody as that from the Bonnie Banks O’ Loch Lomond, and was only recently introduced to it with these lyrics. Yet another great example of the shared history and crossover between Scottish and Irish music. Beautiful as always Lindsay
Indeed! Thanks, Scott!
Your guitar skills are fantastic and your singing is superb, your voice evokes longing emotions. 🎸🎤 Each strum of the strings is like a gentle caress, soothing the heart and calming the mind. 🌺 Your voice, a melody of tenderness and passion, resonates deeply within, filling the soul with warmth and love. 🎶❤
That guitar looks familiar! Sounds great.
Lovely voice and singing.
Vaguely reminds me of how late Mícheál Ó Domhnaill sang a bit.
Beautifully played!
Beautiful song! Thank you Lindsay!
Beautiful performance... cheers from Australia 🦘🦘😀
this was our wedding processional song!
Lovely choice!
One of my favorite tunes to fiddle. It’s actually the melody that finally made me really learn 3rd position on my 5 string 😂
Beautiful! And congratulations on the new guitar! This melody reminds me a lot of Loch Lomond
Same melody! The folk history/process in action :)
@@LindsayStraw today I learned!
So beautiful! Though I love the guitar, I wished you could have played it on Irish Bouzouki!
That’s a beautiful take on an all-time classic. Heck, I can’t keep up with trying to learn the songs you post! And I am probably only tackling half? ❤
No need to do 'em all...pick and choose your favorites!
❤
Wow...❤
My me and my brothers buried our 16 year family dog and my wife played this song 😢
Losing our furry friends is so tough ❤️
@Lindsay Straw a chara,
Do you also play ríleanna or póirt in flatpicking on the giotár?
Sláinte agat 😉
Sometimes, though I'm pretty out of practice with it lately!
@@LindsayStraw OK.
I am wondering cause for ages I have been looking for an album with a duet or duo of 2 guitar players, one backing and one flatpicking.
The only one I found so far was the fairly recent one by Julia Toaspern and Tony MacMannus, which title I forget.
Besides that I don't think there are others which is a pity.
I reckon the sound of the plectrum is sharper and brighter for dancing tunes than fingerstyle I reckon.
Flynn Cohen and Pasty O'Brien are fine flapickers too but I don't think they released any duo album yet.
There is Masters of the Irish Guitar with guys like Donnogh Hennessy and Arty McGlynn but I think they back themselves and not with a 2nd guitar player.
Kind musical thoughts from Brussels,
Thomas 😺
Sláinte agat!
I am trying to think of albums you might like beyond Paul Brady & Andy Irvine, etc. and I'm sure they're out there but I'm coming up short. Murphy Beds throw in the occasional tune set but they're mostly doing songs. If something comes to mind I'll try to remember to share!
