- 2008-2014 Chrysler town and Country, Dodge Caravan, Vw Routan mini van coolant leak fix Y pipe Heater hose repair. Replace the plastic Y pipe with a Brass T from home depot and use stainless steel hose clamps. I also used a piece 1ft of 5/8 heater hose from advance auto parts. I cut off the Y pipe and put in a T and use a piece of 5/8 heater hose tighten hose clamps topped off coolant checked for leak job complete. This will happen to your van at some point its better to replace even if not leaking yet. To prevent overheating and ruining your motor. This fix cost less than dealer and last longer.

I broke down out of state at a funeral, on a Sunday. This fix saved me.
No one at O'Reilly's had any idea what that plastic reducer between the metal pipe and rubber hose was. And it only looked as a part of the entire assyl. Thanks to your excellent video and detailed explanations I can replace and reroute my leaky "plastic " part with your idea and work around.
Honestly, I wish I could give you a hug. I’ve been through hell with this damn town and country leek.
Thank you for this video. You made it look so easy, I just had to try it. Changed the back tee with parts from Home Depot and heater hose from Autozone. The hardest part (and it wasn't really that hard), was cutting the old hose. Was able to do the whole job for under $10.00. I saved myself a lot of money thanks to you. Thanks again!
Awesome to hear and a job well done to you! You’re welcome.
And it's a 2003 Town and country 3.8 so hopefully it's the same setup
@@johnkryceski5893 Exact same make, model, but two years older. It's still in my engine and holding strong. Just like my salvage yard 8 count bolts in my top intake manifold cover.
Saved my life going back to this thing for the 3rd time doing it this way!
Thanks for the video, used to fix same day without any hassle. The shots of the parts at the hardware store were much appreciated - made things painless.
Hey thanks for posting this. You just saved me over $350 dollars. It is such an easy fix.
Thank you for this. Our van was losing so much coolant the engine might have failed. I will replace both plastic parts and not worry anymore. Yes the hardware shots helped.
Hello thanks for watching. I’m glad you found the video useful. Thanks for sharing.
You sir just saved me close to $200 dollars in parts if I was to order the whole assembly at the dealer parts counter plus the wait, because they had to order the thing. Crazy. $20.00 plus in hose, clamps and top off coolant and I have money left over to spend this weekend. Thanks!
Awesome to hear! Thank you!
My 2013 Grand Caravan has a 90degrees elbow coming out to the rear y lines. I cut an 2 1/2 inch line and connected that to outlet line, then I went to O’Reilley’s and bought a 90 degrees high temp elbow and followed the rest of your instructions. Just wanted to share that bit of info for anyone with a similar system as mine
Thanks for the great video! There are a ton of videos for the other y-pipe but not this rear one. I wasn't sure about the quick-disconnect fitting but your video showed me exactly what I needed. Also, thanks for sharing the part info for the T fitting. Worked perfectly.
DUDE...you saved my ass. This was an AMAZING video. I had the same back one go out on me. I fixed it and saved money thanks to you. I think I will replace the other "Y" to be on the safe side. I figure if one went out, the other one probably is not far behind.
I almost didn't even have to look atwhat I was grabbing at home depot! Good video! Total cost..$10! Sweet!
Thanks! I also did this fix for the front tee about three years ago, and now I see some slight seepage at the rear tee, so I will replace that! I have a 2008 grand caravan with the 3.3 liter engine.
I did the fix. I found that it was easiest to first cut the top two connections to the hoses next to the top of the Y. Then you can squeeze the white taps on the connector on the bottom hose that fits to the aluminum pipe and twist and remove that piece. I did not push the rubber hose over the bump in the bottom aluminum tube. That seemed too hard and unnecessary, as the original piece does not go over that bump, and there is plenty of room for a hose clamp on the aluminum tube above the bump.
Thanks for the video....going to do this on my 2010 T&C the only difference instead of a (T) connect I'm going to use a (Y) connect for a little less binding on the hoses and better antifreeze flow.
Your welcome!
Thanks for the fix/tip for the back hose! A while back I had used the trick to fix the front hose but the back hose started giving me problems not long ago. To fix the issue, I spent $109 on Dorman part# 626-307HP and after a couple of months it started giving me problems at the lower connector, the heater hose seems to come lose frequently, its emptied my antifreeze on two occasions. Now I will try your fix shown here. Again, thanks a ton.
Easy and quick. Great video.
Awesome thanks I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing.
Hello I have had that failed as well as the metal piece has broken and I’m trying to figure out what the metal pipe is called. I got the stuff for the y but need to find that long line so I can replace it because sadly it broke off to far up the line.
As a plumber I'd recommend using a 3/4" barbed fitting over the 3/4" pex fitting, but I'm sure either way works fine.
I did this same mod a couple of months ago and still going strong.
Im glad to hear! We’re still running strong.
Thank you.
One year later, no issues whatsoever. When I eventually replace this van with a newer model, this will be the very first thing I do to it.
Still going...
This guy deserves an award...after seeing this video i had the "why/how did i not think of this" dumb face on...terrible...THANK YOU BROTHER!!!
Thank you! I’m happy to hear you enjoyed the video.
Which hose, top are bottom heater core or hoses on firewall top are bottom ?
What hose is the inlet coming off the firewall and which one is return coming off of the firewall
Dorman now makes replacements for both hoses. They use aluminum Y fittings and include the hoses and clamps for both lines. Rockauto about $60.00 dollars delivered.
Thank you for this useful video especially when you buy the pieces to be matched during installation I have used the same way and the result is fantastic as it saved money and time.
Good job very HELPFULL THANK YOU MUCH .
Hello and thanks for sharing your positive comment! Im glad you found it helpful. Thank you ! !
Fine outcome. But I would advise everyone who watches these videos, Not to cut the hose, but the 1-1/4" abs clamps. This would ensure you the proper size hose. In other words, cut the black plastic clamps carefully thru the middle, (I used dremel tool w/ cutting blade) without cutting into the hose material. Also, Never use those "Screw-type" clamps, use original pressure-adjusting clamps. Mechanics would know, that all these heat channeling hoses expand, and the clamp needs to expand with them. That's why this design
Okay I’d like to find out has any thing went wrong since you got it done
Hello thanks for watching and sharing. I haven’t had any problems. I did sell it to a friend and they haven’t had any issues with it either. Please subscribe to the channel if you haven’t done so……. more videos in the works!
How did u get the fitting off on the lower hose? Did u just pull it off?
My fitting is what broke at the hose. I just squeezed in the white retainer clip and then removed the fitting.
@@how2af263 thanks man
Does this faulty y connector cause overheating on an 09 T&C?
Hello! Thank you for watching the video. It’s possible for that happen.
I need to replace the rear hose the one with the two white clips -how do I get the Clips to release?
That's what I'm searching for
Push the hose on first to release the fitting. Then squeeze the tabs and it should pull off easily.
Why would you put a ‘T’ where a ‘Y’or ‘y’ goes?
Genius
How did you remove the fitting? I ended up having to cut mine off. I'm hearing it's a special tool. So far, you're the only one with a video covering the back hose.
Correct I just cut them off. I used brass fittings and hose clamps.
I had the same question, the second (back) y-pipe has a fitting that connects it to the aluminum pipe, the fitting you show in the video does not look cut except where the hose was removed. What's the trick? Thanks.
The fitting on the metal tube has white plastic tabs you just have to squeeze them together and wiggle it off the metal pipe.
My 2013 Chrysler Town and Country has a 3.7 but I'm going to look and see if this is where my leak is coming from I cannot find it anywhere just smell it
I have a feeling you still had problems where the heater hose fitting connector goes. If not let me know please
Elver Galarga still going strong
TIP: if you don't have any oil to lube the 5/8" hose, you can use spit... It works.
What's the name of the part you put the hose around the chrome lip?
I used 5/8 hose and some hose clamps and a brass T
Why would they build something like that in the first place?
Can this work for 05?
It’s possible.
I got a little of it but the video moved and was so jerky I was getting dizzy watching. Yes it's a negative response but truthful
I am getting water in Flore board 2007 Dodge Grand caravan
Someone is trying to charge me 600$ for this. Is that a fair price?
Didnt you see the video? Make up your own mind if you cant make up your mind then yes 600 is a fair price because a fool and his money are soon departed
Fix it once. Im going metal this time.
Unfortunately I came across this video after I bought the repair kit for the 2012 T&C from eBay for thirty bucks which comes with a metal Y instead of the garbage plastic one that cracks over time. What I didn't notice in your video was how the heck do you get that old plastic snap on L fitting off? That's the one that I wanted to start off with first since the other ends are squeeze hose clamps.
My rear heater core is shot I'm trying to only rerout it to the front will that work for me I'm having trouble finding a diagram showing me where the hoses on the left go I see where you put the hoses coming out of the firewall but what do I do with the ones coming from the bottom
Finally got it man thanks for all your help you're the best bro
