When you read the Golden Couple and then it didn't make it to top 10 I felt so bad. Then I read the title and saw 10+ and it got a solid out loud laugh from me. Great video! Always love hearing your thoughts on mysteries because I always find it so overwhelming in that aisle to pick one!

I think a good factor in determining whether or not a book is going to reach the top ten is the number of people who have added it 'to read,' because people often seem to vote for books on their tbr even though they haven't read them.

Next time for your excel you should look into the number of people that have shelved the book "want to read". Sometimes people vote for books they haven't read but have heard of.

I loved this video! I also love that you asked Kayla for her blessing to do this. I voted for The Maid, I hadn't read many books but it was one of my five star mystery books this year so I was happy to vote for it. I'm glad it won and am excited to see what the author does next.
In relation to the diversity in the Goodreads Choice Award it is so upsetting to see how bad it still is.. Goodreads set a minimum average rating, and I know there is an issue with people rating books that they haven't read and I believe that is more common with Authors of Colour and people giving them low ratings. I wonder if this effects the Goodreads Choice nominees and stops lesser known books making it into the nominees...

🔍 excellent video, this is a great concept that I'm glad you borrowed from Kayla because I must admit, murder/mystery/thriller books are not my go to, but hearing about different genres and categories is great for any reader. There are a few books here that sounded quite interesting to me, and you're hilarious, so thanks for a wonderful recap and video of the nominees!

Alice Feeney is super raged about on US booktok and Ashley Flower’s podcast is sooooo good! So yes those two make so much sense from an American standpoint! I rated Rock, Paper, Scissors 2⭐️ as well and you put the words in my mouth, it is the writing! Love your content!

I do NOT understand the hype around Daisy Darker! I'm glad you felt the same way - and the ENDING I couldn't get over. Definitely one of my lowest rated books this year but I find that most people loved it.

I think why In my Dreams I Hold a Knife works is because you’re trying to figure out which one of the friends did it, if at all. And in the past the author uses those different characters’s perspectives to not only answer the questions asked in the present, but to get to know the characters outside of the MC perspective.

I was so excited to read Daisy Darker because everyone has hyped it up so much. DNFed it this morning, the writing was atrocious 😂 I looked up the ending too and was so glad I didn’t waste my time!
As a neurodivergent person with neurodivergent children I HATED the Maid. I’d be interested to know what the average rating for it was amongst neurodivergent people
Same! I was listening to the audiobook and I had to stop about 50% of the way in because I really couldn't handle what the author was trying to do with the main character

If you like The Book Of Cold Cases - I definitely recommend Madam by Phoebe Wynne - it’s dark academia/mystery/thriller, so good so far (I’m currently reading it)

I read an Alice Feeney earlier this year and really hated it and then bought Daisy Darker not realizing it was the same author and I'm afraid to read it, and then you dnf it 😂I was hoping you'd enjoy it so that there could be a glimmer of hope for me, but something tells me it's gonna be unhauled next year.

i feel like if the general public actually knew about/voted in the goodreads awards there’s no way the bullet that missed wouldn’t have been #1. like my 81 year old nana just recommended the thursday murder club to me this past weekend, it’s SO popular!
btw, this has nothing to do with the video but have you heard of murder for christmas by francis duncan? it’s a christmas murder mystery from 1949 and no one, even the publisher, really knew anything about the author until 2015! as soon as i found out about it i was like I HAVE TO TELL MEGAN😂 🔎
I think this really shows the difference between ya fantasy readers vs mystery/thrillers. When I read the top 10 ya fantasy (never again) I always write down all the ratings and how many ratings (like you), but then highlight the top 10 in each category and read the ones that are on both lists. Worked each time for me but mystery readers are so unpredictable 😂

i really want meg to read Sometimes I Lie or His & Hers by Alice Feeney. I know she didn’t like Rock Paper Scissors, which is fair, but Daisy Darker is an And Then There Were None retelling so it never stood a chance. I want her to give her backlist ONE LAST CHANCE and then see if she can just write her off completely.
I think dual timeline done well is the Shiver by Ally Reynolds. A shivering mountain locked in mystery with snowboarders. The biggest surprise of this year to me 🥰5/5

Stalking old videos 😂 i loved Daisy Darker! Lol i didnt guess the plot twist. One of the first times ever. I gave book of cold cases 2 stars. DNF'd wrong place wrong time and gave the Maid 5 stars hahahaha. Also i think the reason the author didnr label the diagnosis is because god forbid you dont represent it 100 percent correctly its labeled problematic. So kudos to her. Personally as a mom of an autistic daughter i think she did great

Love this video! I'm glad you did it I kiss when Lala used to do it. I hope other youtubers will do it too. I do disagree with you though I hate Paris Apartment and The Maid. I would've voted for Daisy Darker. I am the opposite of you, I Love Alice Feeney's books and hate and or am disappointed with Ruth Ware's books. Usually give her 2 stars. I need to read Wrong Place Wrong Time, I love time loops. Might have voted for that but didn't get to read it yet. You should do a video where you read the rest to see if anything dethrones your choice.
