The reason why the books are 64 pages is the rule of eight. Most printers require you to have books laid out eight pages at a time. It's a mechanical requirement, if you look at the other books Wizards puts out they follow the rule. You can't just add three more pages you have to increase the page count eight pages at a time
I am so psyched. I've played D&D since '99 but only now am I changing seats to try my hand/brain at being a DM! I'm hyped for the spelljammer setting as a lot of my potential players love their sci fi, so I'll be able to deliver something they get excited about. Very happy to find your channel! Instant sub 😊
Totally agree with you at 10:28 . There's more than a few things I can find fault with in Pathfinder adventures, but laying out wtf is going on is usually not one of them. They tend to tell you in a fair amount of detail what is happening, why, how it got like this, and what happens if the players do _____. And if they don't they usually provide enough detail surrounding it for you to draw a good conclusion. That's what I'm paying for, I don't need a prompt, I need enough of an underlying structure to support my own creative approach, so I don't have to do all that work, and I can just run the game. If I want to invent the lore and make up the scenarios, I can do that without paying around 70 bucks for their book.
thanks for this review; some other reviews seem to focus on why there were not more crunchy rules. Im a fan of SJ since 2e and have to admit I *really* like the more streamlined space combat and ship rules; this will definitely be my groups next campaign after we finish Curse of Strahd.
Thank you for this awesome review and all the effort and positivity you put into it! I love your videos because they show a very deep love for the game and the community around it, looking for what's good and trying to fix what's not, and taking the time to make a thought out review to tell us if the adventure could be of our liking or not. Personally I love prompts in adventures, albeit they make the job easier for the writers they're also an opportunity to make things unique, and I've had a pleasant experience improvising so far. Definitly agree with the changes you suggested to the ending, I really enjoy it when the players feel the impact of their choices and truly get the chance to shine
Good!! I was wondering how helpful the video was without that spoilery section. Hopefully you still got the info you needed to know if this is an adventure you’d enjoy! -Theo
@@TheGallantGoblin I did and in the end if I end up running instead of playing in it I'll rewatch. This video actually got me to watch the Call of the Netherdeep review as that is also on my list of modules I should dm/play.
Oh thanks! We had a couple of videos about Call of the Netherdeep actually. The interviews with Sadie and James are quite interesting! We just started doing adventure reviews and I’m pretty happy with the structure we have now, so expect more in the future! -Theo
Spoilers for the 2e Illithiad Campaign follows: While it had only a little bit involving travelling through space on a ship on autopilot (as it came out after Spelljammer wrapped it still used Spelljammer setting elements but skipped needing its rules) the second edition three-book campaign that supported the Illithiad Monstrous Arcana sourcebook might have what you want. It’s a bit rough and railroading, and has to be converted to 5e, and is fairly high level, but it starts with mystery in a city, involves the worlds sudden descent into an Ice Age, has an extended chase by Illithid on a sleigh, an archaeological dig uncovering fragments of Illithid ruins trapped in time bubbles, then a trip on an ancient Illithid ship on Autopilot (that could be expanded with the new Spelljammer rules nicely, especially if you swap the autopilot for just having the navigation data), reaching the ruins of the capital world of the former Illithid Empire which leads to going to an Illithid Space Station in another plane where literally the fate of the entire Multiverse is at stake from total Illithid Domination, includes mass battles in the background of large scale war between dragon riding Githyanki and Illithid Nautiloids while players have to try and save the day on the station. If they win they’ll likely have Githyanki on good terms with them but be hunted by Illithid forever and if they fail the entire multiverse will be ruled by an indescribably massive Illithid Empire that never fell to the Gith Uprising and surviving players will be the only ones who know what a free multiverse had been before. So it’s stakes are probably the highest in D&D’s history even to this day, features tons of Illithid focused material, has some Space content that you could very much expand on using the new Spelljammer book. It may be what you are after. I ran it back in the day and I plan on fitting parts of it in with changes after Light of Xaryxis.
Ooooo I have an idea for how to have the Adventure start in the Forgotten Realms (Waterdeep to be specific). The Knot in The Weave that is tied to the magic of Undermountain makes it an optimal spot to drop one of these seeds and drain the life force from Abeir- Toril
Use that selfie stick during your trip back to Georgia!!!!! Also, did I hear there might be a preview for a new Kickstarter in the works!? Good thing I already planned for this. *puts one quarter in the jar*
As a relatively new player, phrases like “it’s that kind of adventure” really don’t mean anything to me. It would be splendid if you could elaborate just a tad on those in the future!

I really don't like the beginning of the adventure, why I should pick an Astral Elf or a Plasmoid as PC if the adventure starts on Toril? It doesn't make sense.
I do think you could find creative solutions to this one. Maybe they’ve been undercover, studying the planet. Maybe it’s not Toril but the astral elf or plasmoid homeworld. I’m thinking also of Ford Prefect from the Hitchhiker’s Guide. -Theo
Which comment? We almost never remove comments, though some get caught up in TH-cam's spam filter (just checked and you don't have any in there). We've also had folks say that their comments get eaten or don't show up, but we've never been able to determine why. So apologies if your comment disappeared, but I'm pretty sure we did not remove it. -Grady

Eight sheets of paper, sure, but the publisher can always leave blank pages at the end if all eight pages aren't needed.
Those pages could be filled out with art, maps, and various other miscellaneous information.
Holy shiet! Mr Welch knows Gallant Goblin!
P.S. Congrats on your mystara work!

I'm super stoked! Any news on when you will be reviewing the booster brick minis, ship scale, temple of light encounter set, etc?
Can't wait to see more reviews, I had to skip the middle due to spoilers but glad your summary was spoiler free.

Thank you! We’re down in Thomasville! -Theo

Can PC's kill any of the NPC's or are they railroaded into an alliance? I can see my players wanting to kill the vampire immediately!
Wtf does 'that kind of adventure' mean??
One that doesn’t take itself very seriously. Tongue-in-cheek.
5th edition spelljammer is absolute garbage
