John Williams have move us with he's music and composition...he has given life to all the movies he had been involve with....thank you John Williams for being with us....
Those French Horns just elevates it to such heartbreak.. it's always a hard watch of the film. The ending sends me to tears even after watching it multiple times.
It makes me weep every time I hear it. Bless those who have given their lives for our freedom. Bless John Williams also for capturing the sad yet victorious feeling of the movie.
Among all the wonderful music John Williams has presented the world with, this is his masterpiece! Not only is it a testament to the cost of war, it also a ray of light in the darkness.❤
I am an American Soldier who served willingly and with pride. I bow my head and weep openly not for myself but for all thsoe who have made the ultimate sacrifice. They did what many wouldn't and couldn't. I am the only one left out of my entire unit. 168 people are gone from this earth and I'll never see them or hear from any oneof them again, ever. Everyone I know is gone....everyoone. Remember to hug your loved ones , and be kind ot people you may not know. At the setting of the sun, we shall not forget them. 9th Infantry 7th Special Forces US Army RVN 1972-1975 Combat medic *Slow hand Salute*
My son.in Navy, but this makes me think of when he was in bootcamp 5 yrs ago. People rallied around the not yet sailors and picked them up for Christmas Day, to a school close by Great Lakes, and had a parade of well wishers for them, ket them call their moms on their own phones!! Gave them 2 dinners that day I believe. All because a teacher at that school, lost his son in the Afghanistan, years before, in fact they gave each one a Bible with a gift.certificate and a picture of their son in that Bible. I will never forget what they provided for my son and others that day!!❤❤❤and their sons sacrifice
You have a wonderful story to tell. One could say much but you have covered it perfectly. I love your comment "not het sailors." We have all gone that way once but the service made us who we became. I trust that your son never forgets the huge blessing on him and his mates to be. I am saddened by the loss that man felt and empty words such as he gave is life for his country to me don't cut the mustard. Yes we go in harms way but noble words never bring a loved one home. As for me, I am on the cusp of going home but I pray that you, your son and his shipmates go well and stay safe. Andrew Stackpool, RAN Retired
This is more than just a moving piece of music performed superbly. It pays homage to those who sacrificed themselves, and their future, for the present that we enjoy. It is a beautiful reminder to "earn" each day. As Tom Greenough points out, we are losing about 1000 of the survivors a year. I hope they know that they leave this world better than when they came into it. Thank you to all who served, and those who serve today, to keep us free.
I never understood why Tom Hanks told Ryan to “earn it.” Ryan had already earned it by staying back to fight causing Tom Hanks and his soldiers to stay back and hold the bridge. It was a most heroic thing to do. Without the extra troops the bridge would’ve fallen to the Germans. Tom Hanks had to screw Ryan’s brain.
Once again another awe inspiring masterpiece and music. I am in reverence of the many great men that have died on the battlefields throughout this nations great history.
Mas tu tá ligado que a batalha de Stalingrado foi pior né? Foi mais sangrenta, ninguém recuava ou morria. Essa sim foi a batalha que derrotou o líder do Eixo na WW2.
Lovely and very moving. Interestingly, Williams incorporates the "Scotch Snap" rhythm in this hymn...a reference to the haunting funeral music of the British Isles?
I like this low quality video version more than better quality videos because the cameras show more of the gorgeous, essential to the composition, chorus.
I played in the Orchestra (LSO) which recorded the Original Sound Track for Saving Private Ryan the motion picture & this performance is at least the equal (Just one notable error at Bar 1 & 2 where the snare drummer came out of the gates too fast, he was obviously too nervous but by Bar 3 he was back on the track) to the recorded version. A great performance all around. Excellent Choir.
I looked at the faces of the musicians and chorus hard. I'd like to think there was a reverence as they played and sang "Hymn to "the Fallen." I don't know what these men and women knew about WW II. Perhaps they've never even saw the movie. Perhaps they lost a distant relative in that war, ....a grandfather, great uncle, or maybe a closer relative or cohort in a more recent struggle. Williams score was so intensely moving, it can't help but stir feelings of loss, sacrifice, and pride. Even if those feelings were buried as deep, and as long as the men and women who died long (or not so long) ago upon different shores.
I 'love D-DAY,"The Normandy landing" because i love History and WW2...

Brings me to tears every time. Those trumpets and French horns.

A classic, if ever there was there was one.
It will be remembered an played in years to come...
To the men and women that saved the world. May they rest in peace. They are leaving us at a rate of about 1000 per year. God bless them.
