@@diuco17 I'm an IT Tech for a Fortune company in the USA and I can tell you that Windows 7 is no longer patched unless you pay for Enterprise level support. Since you won't even pay for a new operating system it is doubtful that you will pay for enterprise level support. That said, all vunlerablities in Windows 7 are permanent so hackers know excatly what to exploit so you cannot run the "right software" to secure it because such software does not and will not exist. If you have your system off the Internet you wlll be fine as there are some special case uses for it. However, I find this also doubtful as from your statements it's your primary OS. Continuing to bank or doing other security-sensitive tasks on your machine is not recommended and firewalls don't mean a thing since they only protect you against unsolicited communications and not communications that you initiate. Their are a myrad of reasons why you wouldn't, if you're properly reasoning, as to why you wouldn't want Winodws 7. Unfortunately the general public isn't that bright. I've had to explain these issues to a former employer in the medical field who was later hacked and lost HIPPA PII and is now facing a DOJ investigation into his incompetence. I tried to warn him but he didn't want to spend a few dollars on an new operating system. There is being cheap and there is being frugal and it would behoove you to know the difference. Who knows, maybe you'll be fine, but I doubt it. It's just a matter of time.

@@jTheDigitalDoctor i kind of doubt your such an ''it expert'' if you allready fail at realizing the most important thing here: we dont live in the year 1990 anymore. you talk about hackers exploiting normal people. normal people are not even targets for hackers anymore for years. why on earch should a hacker waste time on ''exploiting'' a random person with a 8-5 job and nothing of value? modern hackers in 2023 target the internet itself, they target servers where the data is stored on, they target big companies who work with said data. data leaks and server breaches is valuable because you get a lot of small data in one go and those huge amount of data is what you can make money with. Norman normie, coming home from work and then watching some show on netflix or playing with the kids is utterly uninteresting and unvaluable as a target. hackers exploiting... what exactly? to see what norman normie watches on netflix or to pay his debt because norman normie does not have money himself?

The threat level 5 years from now will still be the same as it was on the last update. The OS will not grow new holes and it won't slowly deteriorate. If you know how to maintain an OS you can keep using windows 7 forever and never be at any more risk than you are today.

Indeed and what people seem to base the supposed vulnerability of Windows 7 on is how insecure Windows 10, and by extension Windows 11, are. Although they fail to take into account that many of the exploits for 10 and 11 target features and holes that are only in 10 and 11... and are not even present in Windows 7 to begin with. Also some of the biggest voices shouting about how vulnerable Windows 7 is haven't even used the OS for years anyway, and are basing their bias purely on the hearsay of people who don't even know what they're talking about. It's just become trendy to dump on older operating systems, but in reality is just a smokescreen for people who are sheep and won't admit they feel the need to have the latest and 'greatest' all the time.

For me Win7 64 is perfect since more 15 years now and i think it will last a lot more . You just need to make copy on a regularly basis with mirroring disk to avoid catastrophic problem and if you know your system you separate data from system and everything is fine in fact . I only crash two times long time Win 7 and it was my mistake in fact , mostly i will say it's just how you drive your system carefully and you will not encountered major problem that's it !!!

Then like most I gave in and brought windows 7 pro when that OS had been out for 2 years by then because I knew how many huge holes in the OS security it had after it 1st released so I waited until 2 year mark to see those sorted with service pack 1 updates and service pack 2 to plug those holes that lazy greedy Microsoft just left to us poor users to find and report to them to issue a fix.
I been using windows 7 pro ( including now as I type ) for many fine years without 1 single problem to do with these so called big news virus or hacking threats.
I think all this so called news is from the minions whom work for Microsoft. They make up these stories and then slash them everywhere to scare us users into getting the next overpriced full of more holes rushed out OS so Microsoft can see more millions roll in as silly users rush to upgrade to the next load of rubbish OS again full of holes.
Just MS hype to force millions world wide to buy more OS rubbish from the Microsoft company who is so mega rich they could sell a OS for almost nothing and still be worth billions.

Windows 10 and 11 have loads of issues.
OK most are concerning Microsoft themselves, and I personally wouldn't use them without installing something like O&O Shut up 10, which stops most of the nonsense, at least until the next forced update, when you have to run it again.
I personally hate Microsoft with all their nosiness, but use Windows 10 and 7, mainly because an older PC won't update to Windows 10.
Older bios issue that is unbudgable, and unupdateable.
When using Windows 7, I use free AV, plus Firefox, and always clear everything after each use.
Slightly more awkward than Windows 10, but without all the 10 bloat, I still prefer it in every way.
Mind you if Firefox pull out will have to think again.

i’d definitely recommend linux purely because if you’re dedicated, you can make it look almost exactly like windows 7, which you can’t do with windows 10(unless it’s a version that’s already reached end of service) or 11. and unless you pirate games, steams proton compatibility layer is amazing for gaming on linux, especially for older games (some of which just runs straight up on wine). also, linux will just be way faster and easier to run on your hardware than windows 11. it’ll probably even be faster than windows 7

I work in healthcare and I've seen the havoc caused by data breaches in Windows7 and XP machines that I've had to fix and was tasked by a major conglomerate here in the USA to "upgrade" them to Windows 10 or 11. No true upgrade was possible due to the age of the hardware but no reason existed to maintain Windows 7 with no native encryption or software support (unless you were willing to pay for Enterprise support) I chose the Windows 10 pathway due to it's higher stability index and native Bitlocker encryption. Our network team secured their end by upgrading the firewalls and network segmentation. Disliking an operating system and using that as a basis to make a business or personal decision to retain and antiquated piece of junk that's had it's day is both illogical and unprofessional. I don't think win 10 or 11 is more secured, because they are more widespread and because if you click on the wrong link you are contaminated. this is not related to os version; ublock origin & noscript help a lot to avoid mistake. Well, 1st thing here and yes I know you just said, that Windows 7 don't get updates.. now! Well Mine still getting them daily. half are fr win 7 Pro I have and the other half are fr my software used like Adobe Reader etc. So I do still get them.
2nd I have been using the system for years and I can say 100% hand on heart nothing bad happened to my windows 7 Pro system no matter the times I reinstalled it.
I have SpyBot free and it sorts out any spying stuff and the anti-virus I used for years is, Malwarebytes free. I gave up using AVG free as it was being a sod. The company kept cutting out more and more features from the free one with each year version mucking around with how it worked and kept trying t force you to buy a over priced fancy pro version and since we did not do so they just made the free so bad to use that I said stuff it they can get lost.
So changed over to Malwarebytes which does updates for free and scans the system and don't try t force you to upgrade to pro or muck up the free features.
As for Norton software, I remember they were the number one years back when computing went on to the early web. But as Which Computing and many millions of PC uses and many top Computer mags found later on Norton was rubbish, overpriced and living on it's fame from old and not protecting as it once did. I will not bother with them ever again.
I don't wish to have windows 10 as it had more problems and user complaints than any other windows OS ever, and that is saying allot.
Like all windows OS it had huge security holes and problems and faults. ( Microsoft seemed to not learned it's lessons from the older OS they did from windows 98 SE upwards )
They just carried on doing the same crap as normal.
They launch a new OS and not do any Alpha or Beta testing of the security system and hence the OS was full of security holes and bad coding so like before they let the poor users have the faults the data lose the crashes the tons of problems and have to report those to Microsoft whom then fix that fault or hole with one of many update fixes until the next one happened. So a huge super rich mega computer software firm let the very users show the errors, problems, security holes etc. then fixed them.
Because the company did not like to do the full make and fix and prove safe and stable software to users whom were expected to do that error finding instead saving Microsoft money after that same company made millions selling that same OS world wide for silly prices which went up each new OS released. ( every 2 years too they expected us to change it )
So I am only be upgrading to windows 10 Pro because many of my programs now telling me they won't work with windows 7 soon!
I still use windows 7 Pro off line as most of the great games and programs I use on here can't work with windows 10.
The only good thing I found is, windows 7 and windows 7 pro users can upgrade to the windows 10 & win 10 pro for FREE from Microsoft own site even in 2023.
    Which I will do.
I have seen the PC time start from way back from the beginning and have been building my own PC's for years.
It is huge shame that even in 2023, Microsoft charge huge amounts for their OS and still don't Beta or Alpha Test them to death and fix the security holes and systems before they then charge us users massive amounts of money for crap hole laced OS's unlike Apple Mac who do fully test to death their OS then when there is zero faults or security problems on there do they then release it.

Windows Update has always seemed to be a bit hit or miss for some people, with certain people getting more updates than others. I haven't used Windows Update since 2020 when extended support stopped. Now, I use Simplix UpdatePack 7 for updating new installations as that doesn't require any prerequisite hotfixes and can update the system completely offline. It still takes a while but nowhere near as long as Windows Update, and also skips deprecated updates so as to provide a clean and efficient update cycle. My recommendation would be to try that. I'm not sure if your Alienware is covered by Dell but they also provide fully-updated images of Windows 7 directly from the website, but you may need a program to get it.

@@FlyboyHelosim Well I didn't bother with 3rd party Simplix, but with a couple of KB updates I didn't have, managed to get all updates that are available.
I think there were about 6, some security updates and some regular updates.
Strange that without the two missing KB updates - supposedly from SP2, but still show SP1 - none of the other updates would even show up as available.
Amazing what you can find when you look properly.

AVG ,Avira,Avast are all part of Norton now if i'm not mistaken .On some pc security channels when they tested avast it did pretty well actually ,on par with the best av's if not better .I guess they try to clear the name after they were called out for collecting data and selling it . After that controversy Norton bought them after some time and kept avast products .I suppose Norton made a good use the knowlegde of both companies and got good products now . Using avast now btw 🤣

      1. The only portion of Norton that Avast/AVG/ Avira(?) is the LifeLock merger
      2. Avast was not caught red-handed. Their EULA stated what was going to happen.
As for the data, it was anonymized web surfing data that was never publicly de-anonymized. But many people will try to push a certain “Avast bad they steal your data” narrative for some reason.
From what I have read, the anonymized data could not be directly linked to a specific person and no one has publicly shown otherwise. However, it could be “possible” using data from other data sets (like all the Cambridge Analytica scandal going on around at that time) to link the browser fingerprints together which can eventually lead to a real person. Think “foreign key=browser fingerprint” if you speak SQL. Avast should not be held responsible for the data collection practices of other sources.
Most people complain endlessly about their operation of Jumpshot (their sister company) which was selling aggregated data obtained from avast! users. Some argued that it was without their consent even though avast! has stated for years that they have and they also offered option to disable data sharing under Privacy settings since avast! 5.x. Also among allegations was that aggregated data "could" be used to trace back users yet despite a lot of whining no one actually proved that it could or showed any actual examples.
They shut down Jumpshot after public outcry, I frankly believe this was just a stupid mistake.
Personally, I still consider avast! to be one of best AV's. Just make sure to disable data sharing in Privacy settings (but leave CommunityIQ for best protection).

Switching to Linux would be a viable alternative for some people. I reckon Windows 7 needs to rest in peace, it's totally EOL. It's very popular still, somehow, so I guess people would need to take the best measures to use it safely (it's still risky to use online), I would heavily advise against using Windows 7 or 8.1 in 2023. Yeah, AV will help, but it won't protect against 0 day exploits. I like Avast and AVG for free AV.
Over a million PC's still run Windows 8.1 too, and a lot of software has dropped support for it too, are you going to make a video on how to use Windows 8.1 after it's end of support?

Yes i completely disagree with its analysis ,the safety come from anti-virus and anti-malware or firewall when you go on the net and it really depend on what kind site you are going to . From my point of view it's like a trend or a fashion ,just because Microsoft release new operating system which in fact are always the same with different GUI and because they to sell you another crap they will said that the old suddenly is not sure for no real reason , and when you see the quantity of problem that new system encountered sorry but no way i will stay with my Win 7 64 that since works flawless .
Also nowaday you can activate firewall directly on the router , i own the F670 and you just have to activate the option with this built-in function so for me they really don't known what they are talking about .
