Thanks Derek. I can see already that this isn't quite going to work, but I am going to finish it anyway. What I need to do next is start with 6 triangular sections of wood. That will give me a hexagon with 6 inside faces that can be carved and also will help describe the outer gyroid. Like you say though, it is a journey.
