I always like Dan. He knows how to laugh at himself; he enjoys a pint before, during, and after a ride, and now we learn that he has a really cute/cool kid kicking it on his bike, plus he's doing awesome riding for a worthy charity. To you Dan!

I really enjoyed this video. -- The host goes on a ride. -- Meets up with friends who ride along. -- Stops for coffee, beer, and stories. -- No tech or PB/KOM's, just a friendly host going on a bike ride. -- This feels very personal and relatable. -- Thanks Dan. -- Cheers!

Having done a few New Forest sportives that go up Nomansland I can attest that it is many of the rude words I've shouted going up it. Took three attempts, 2 years of training, weight loss, a new bike, and a new max heart rate to get up it without walking. It's one of those evil climbs that's steepest at the top.

Absolutely loved the ride! I spent time in Alton, Hampshire some years back (I live in Toronto) waiting to give a kidney to an uncle, and used to go out with Alton club, and the New Forest was a destination ride they did one time. Took the train down to Brockenhurst and back to Alton. I've often replayed that ride and others in my mind in the years since. And now I've just relived it again. That was magnificent Dan! Many thanks.

Lovely video Dan, as a Bournemouth resident and Bournemouth Arrow CC member I do a similar (all road) New Forest route most Sundays/or Saturday's so it's area close to my heart. I would have done Mountain Bike XC races ("Sport" class) at both these venues. I'm 45 and our paths crossed different times at events but I lowey "sports" riders compared to yourself and Stuart Bowers blasting the Elite fields.

  • @Kim_Miller
    @Kim_Miller 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Nice video, Dan. Riding with your kids makes it a great day. Jude is a real spinner on that bike.
I'm Australian but my wife and son and I lived in Exeter, Devon through the 80s until Sam was 10 years old - which I imagine is close to Jude's age now. About 1986 they opened the Bristol to Bath cycle way on the old rail track and we were among the first to ride it, and we did it often. Sam loved the ride, doing it on his BMX bike with his legs going a million miles an hour - the spin-master of his day.
We would drive to Bristol in the morning and ride to Bath, lock the bikes to a fence and chase up lunch, then ride back to Bristol in the afternoon. It was 25 miles total if I recall. Sam would be asleep in the car before we could load up the bikes.

Congratulations Dan, a spark grew into a flame during this simply awesome video. I can see you enjoyed this ride as much as any in your past, maybe more than you did even with your old team (can't recall the name).
Here you are doing exactly what you love, and having a cause behind it, even better.
Welcome Jude, who I expect could review kit & equipment for smaller folk soon enough. Parents buy lots of gear for children, why not let Jude say a word or two. Big thanks to Dan, what a great day in the office, great format.

This is an entirely beautiful presentation, and Dan is one who has achieved much business success in media and marketing and surely otherwise. And it is nice to see him not allow the pull of that success to pull him from his bike. And my O sigh, I can't believe, when I look back, that I allowed myself to be drawn away from frequently riding for the better part of two decades. But thankfully, that foolishness came to a stop a decade ago and it feels so good to be back.

I grew up near Nomansland and still go back to the New Forest often - it's such great place to ride. I'll have a crack at Dan's route when I'm down next.

Hi Dan nice to see you ride with your kids. 👍👍👍🌹🌹🌹😍
I'm watching from Australia, I ride road bike with my son too he is 9 years old. I know a lot of people ride with their kids, if you can make some riding videos with your kids showing how you train him and information like what bike he rides, wheel size, gear ratios, how his knee's cope with that etc that would be encouragement for me and other fathers and sons.
    Thanks.

This should win GCN Inspiration! It’s always good to see photos of nice bikes and epic views but true inspiration comes from personal stories of humble beginnings (albeit with questionable haircuts- we’ve all been there!), trials and tribulations and successes. Such a great video, the other presenters need to follow suit!

@GCN Dan you are so lucky to have the new forest on your doorstep, such a beautiful place and very few cars

Thanks for sharing your ride, that hill at the end looks intimidating Dan. And having your son, Jude, come slong for the last portion of the ride.

Such a great video, please turn this into a series. Looks like a wonderful loop to ride as I live vicariously from winter stricken Wisconsin, US

Love seeing my local roads on here!
If anyone is interested more in the gravel of the New Forest they need to head over to The Woods Cyclery in Lyndhurst. Without a doubt one of the best bike shops in the south 👌🏻
