- Riding a road bike from coast to coast in the UK is quite a feat, let alone doing so in one day. Ollie's had this route in mind for a while, and he'd brought Hank along for the fun. We've also teamed up with Wilier and Hunt to provide Ollie and Hank with some fantastic machines for the job!

Where do you sit on the scone debate? Jam or cream first? Does it even matter? Have you ever ridden coast to coast before?
Ahh in Australia coast to coast is either a 3,835.7km ride (NtoS) or 5,019.3km ride (EtoW)..... so that’s a no.
Jam's heavier and denser so goes on the base, creams a lighter fluffier topping. anything else defies all logic.
@@bantcliff obviously never had cornish clotted 😜
Jam first and cream on top. Does not really matter, however from my point of view it is just easier to spread.
Are you filming this in the future???..where are masks
The video quality you guys are now producing is beyond belief. Honestly better than most TV shows and documentaries you see nowadays. Keep it up fellas :-)
Before Quarentine It was super good too, just couldnt really have a whole crew with lockdown
agree. such a great video.
thats the trend my friend for years, internet took over nothing to be surprised, Discovery channel tv crew probably had to sign new contracts with their profile changed to internet content production :)
TH-cam is the new TV. Especially convenient on the toilet.
Excellent video. You managed to arrange the weather too! Just wish You Tube would stop littering your videos with very annoying adverts - often in mid-sentence.
I'm sharing this video with my non-cycling mates. If this video doesn't make you want to ride a bike then nothing will. It is absolutely superb.
Yeah, watching people do a 30% grade is gonna make people wanna ride. Riiiight.
I would like to do something like that. Cycling isn’t just going down hill !
@@KandiKlover True, but what goes up, must come down. And that's where thrill is
As much as I love watching three old blokes driving cars in amazing places. This, and the other videos like this on gcn, are just way better.
Couldn’t agree more. But an exploding caravan now and then wouldn’t hurt.
I loved the cycling commercials Top Gear did and had to present to some city council thing lmao.
@@KandiKlover i remember it well. 🤣.
Basically brits on a trip is probably one of the better forms of entertainment
If this car, was a bike, it would be a Willier
I was inspired by this video to complete this route with a friend. We finished yesterday, it was amazing. Unlike you guys we're novices, let's just say it took us more than a day !
Nice work!
Good job
nice one! next time i'm in the UK i might have to try it.
7:15 "Mate, more people die from cows than sharks"
Yeah but if you tried to milk a shark...
We presently have 2 bronze whalers and a 5m white pointer hanging around our surfing beach atm chasing bait fish and spooking the local crew.
And you can run away from a cow...
you can walk away from a cow...
Mgapagnolo no you can’t😂
Omfg I laughed loudly out loud with this one, thanks mate!
I love the part at 12:30 where you are flying down the road and there is a guy in the background texting on his phone keeping up with you lol 😂👍🏽
Love the guy behind Hank & Ollie on his phone & catching them up!
18:51 still gives me chills and motivation for the next day!
When I lack motivation, I often re-watch GCN videos. I forgot about this one and how motivating it is.
Happy riding, Nicolas!
@nicolasremillard3491 AGREED!
Ollie: “this climb is brutal”
Hank doing a wheely at the end: “yeah sure mate”
give it a go! 😂
IF THIS DOESN'T GET YOU MOTIVATED TO CYCLE, I DONT KNOW WHAT WILL. WHAT A PRODUCTION AND YOU GUYS SO LOVEABLE!! 11/10
North to South translation. North: tea = evening meal, usually eaten around 6pm or later. Chippy tea = evening meal from the chip shop. Awesome video. Route duly added to the bucket list. I might need easier gearing for Hardknott and Wrynose, though 😂
Also a great song 😉
And about three days in which to do it!
Also, I’ve never ridden Wrynose or Hardknott in the dry. Last time I was on 34-28 and it was like riding up a couple of waterfalls. Not sure I want 30C heat though 🥵
You sure it's not a brew made by a carpenter?
Breakfast dinner tea
Ollie and Hank just exude fun and excitement on this ride. Well done guys. I bet some UK riders are going to do this ride sooner rather than later.
GCN, I would love to see more rides in your backyard- the UK while the warm weather is here. Top notch filming by the way.
Wild "Best bike ride of the year" watched on a rainy, Sunday morning with coffee. What else?
Sounds like typical british weather! Hope you get out and ride
it was a rainy sunday morning in singapore too
That’s literally what I’m doing
Video looks so good, how about a behind the scenes video showing the technology and processes used in creating the videos, maybe with some interviews with staff doing this work that we don’t usually get to see?
I love how you can track how close to Yorkshire they were getting through the lakes by how much more broad Ollie’s accent became. This looks like a fantastic ride, nice one.
Me and 3 friends did this route just the other day, aged 14/15 we set ourselves the task to complete it in 2 days, and we managed! . But instead of sun and heat it was raining for alot of it, hardknott pass was an absolute killer. The relief we felt when we could see the sea. One of the best rides we've ever done and we all enjoyed every moment of it. Thank you for the route and inspiring us to do it!
Nice bunny hop @18:00. Looking at that grate, bunny hop looked to be the comfort option
This video is still a favorite. We need some more like it!
Yey!! Ollies back someone found the key to his cage
Epic ride chaps! A great friend of mine had always wanted to ride the Coast2Coast, unfortunately we lost him in 2020 to a heart condition so 3 of us followed your route on his behalf in June 2021 with the last 6 miles joined by his kids, father and sister. A great way to pay our respects and fulfil his dream.
11:04 when Hank & Ollie got a little too friendly!
Great video Boys...
What goes on tour stays on tour...
Alfred Munkenbeck 😂😂😂👌 YES
Ollie getting more and more northern as the ride went on, although chippy tea does sound good!
Great production, great route, good fun. We walked the C2C in 2013 in 13 days - 305 kms. Beautiful from one end to the other.
Also this is my favorite GCN video ever
The production quality of these films is superb now. Camera work excellent
One of the best vids to date. We can talk about the bikes until the cows come home (badom). But more epics like this please!
I have to admit that I shed a tear when you crested that hill and you could see the sea.
Give yourself a slap!
👏👏👏👏👏! One of the best... Beautiful landscape, exceptional bike, the music, the story, and the towns... Kudos!!!
What a great ride! And what a great bikes! Thanks Ollie and James and thanks for the music! Everything was super nice! I forgot. Of course cream first. ;)
Aside from the actual climbing I'm so jealous of those roads. Nothing like that around me in SoCal. That'd be a dream ride for me, again minus the climbing. Ollie's high pitched "25%" was hilarious.
Love these two. Well done lads. Surely everyone knows what a “chippy tea” is? What a great way also to show off the fabulous places we have here in the UK.
That shot of you going over the last hill to see the North sea, that music! 1 hour 30 into my freezing cold turbo session... That slapped a smile right across my face. Cheers chaps.
Sunday vids on GCN are bloody good these days.
Jam then cream. Then a beer in The Bay. Then chippy tea. Thanks for the memories, keep em coming!
12:25 Ollie and Hank “racing within a ride” while random dude trailing them keeps pace while sitting up and checking his phone.
I think he was taking pictures with "the gcn guys mid ride OMG OMG" hahaha. Didn't he turn up here yet?
I'm going to assume that was a car.
100% trying to snap a photo...probably holding on for dear life
Loved every minute ....sold :.now on my bucket list....great vid super photography ...great job GCN
amazing work from cameraman and videoeditor. Top in their field !
Gorgeous!
Loved this, that climbing was bloody epic!! Jam first obviously cream is the topping 😉
4:30: That 30% sign is scariest thing I’ve ever seen! I feel like I’m going to die going up 20%. I can’t even imagine 30+%. I’m impressed.
That ride was so epic that time stood still. I’m sure you covered a good 30-40ks between 4:30pm and 4:30pn
Just watched while peddling on my trainer (8 Feb., 21) and saving myself a freezing cold (31°F), wet evening ride. Thanks for the beauty and quasi-companionship!
Absolutely awesome. An epic ride - one that I would love to do one day but of course over 2 or 3 days !!!! Can't believe how you can get up those 20+% climbs towards - legs of steel. Wonderful scenery as well.
Pussy
@@clarkeyi721 Hah hah!! I'm not proud - I learnt my place in the world a long time ago - rolling into the coffee shop after the rest of the gang in my cycling group have already finished their "coffee & scones" !!
I mean I’d need a week minimum...and I swear at small hills I’d be buggered at those inclines
My last comment on a GCN video was very pro-Hank, so I almost feel bad putting another one. However, the way he rides the bike is so damn cool. All the little flourishes are so nice.
260km from one side of the country to the other... Sounds weird being Australian. I can ride 2000km and still be in the same state 🤣
Do you think guys from Красноярск are impressed? ;)
As a Canadian, I can understand. 20 hour drive, about 2000 km across Ontario, from Ottawa to Kenora. 7500 km to go across the country.
And they didn't even cross the narrowest part of England! Bowness to Tynemouth is only about 145km.
@@kibbee890 Quebec City to Vancouver is under 5000km and still satisfies the coast-to-coast requirement. (Add a couple of hundred km to the east if you don't want to count that part of the St Lawrence River as coastal.)
I live in Malta, 27 Km is what it takes to cross the island.
A really nicely ad for Wilier and Hunt, with an extra sprinkling of adverts for us in the middle too 👌
Definitely one of my favorite videos and those bike jumps were incredible.
That video said it in the title EPIC in capital letters , loved it from the start to finish ,great bike route coast to coast, with 2 cracking Aero bikes ,2 pairs of cracking Hunt wheels , and not forgetting the 2 cracking GCN presenters , well deserved fish and chips 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Choice of background music on point. Perfectly suits the scenery!
Kudos to the production team! Nice video
Great video, loved the hop over the cattle grid at about 18 mins. Chesters on the River at Skelwith Bridge is an amazing vegan eatery, great choice.
It’s like top gear for bikes, so good!
I'm loving the mullet and the 'stash
Hearing the old DDE intro on a GCN video is surreal! Lol!
Fitting though!
Great upload guys. Well done on this massive trip! Just picked up my first Giant road frame after being on a traditional geometry Pinarello for years and years,
Loving it so far!
So nice to see the GCN crew back on the roads - inspiring us all!
That is awesome! Who does his first century, goes back home at 8:30pm and tune into GCN? Me..... Now I have to get out and do 260K’s!! Thank you for being an inspiration, day in day out. Much, much appreciate it.
You guys are amazing. An absolute inspiration. Thank you.
Truly inspirational short film, would love to ride up there on a sunny day!!!!
Epic ride. Hilarious duo. Enviable bikes. Perfect.
I drove along Wrynose/Hardknott Pass on the Bank Holiday weekend. It was hard enough in my car let alone on bikes. Incredible effort lads, and I’ve added it to my bucket list. I bought my car coincidentally in Whitby last year a stones throw from Robin Hood Bay so the scenes you filmed from coast to coast all looked familiar. Well done again!
These was one of the best , professionally produced videos, you guys have put out in a long time. Keep'm coming.KB
Awesome watch gents thank you 😃🤙 a very well deserved chippy tea!
FIRST JAM THEN CREAM! LOL Great video. Getting ready for a ride today.
How Ollie holds his own with hank riding across the country in 1 day blows my mind, fair play Ollie, good effort. I've done hard knott pass on the motorbike, can't imagine doing it on a bicycle. well done lads.
The final bits of this video actually got quite emotional :')
Well done gentlemen! What a great ride! I think there was some "hanging on for dear life", starting around 14:52. And I noticed that 2 of the final big climbs both happened at 4:30!? But the "chippy tea"...well deserved! What a memorable day! Thanks for taking us along!
Ollie: *tells Hank about the climbs*
Me a Dutchman: What are 'climbs'?
I've heard a lot about NL's "flatness" , but oh my presentation of "flat" was so wrong lol
Climbs are headwinds that then turn to a tail wind at halfway. ;¬)
Aren’t there some pretty brutal climbs in the spring classics in the Netherlands?
The only 25% climb in the Netherlands is up the stairs to bed! :D
I cycle toured over Wrynose and Hardknott in the opposite direction back in 1996. Full camping tour kit on a heavy cheapish mtb with rim brakes. Was hilarious watching the expressions of the car drivers. And yes, somehow I rode up the whole way, on both of them.
The edit is sick! Love this one! Smooth as a whole don’t even feel like 20 minutes has passed.
What’s sick about it, it’s great
Thanks for all the videos you put out, I've been cycling for a year now and I did my first half century yesterday. I was feeling so good I did another 20 miles for 70 total. From Los Angeles to San Clemente, halfway to my goal of riding from LA to San Diego. I'll keep pushing as long as there are no 30% climbs.
You can do it Mario, cheers for all the support, good luck on the ride
Love watching Hank & Ollie's adventures - amazing bikes, amazing ride - gave me goosebumps when you guys hit the hill crest @whitby
It always amazes me what a well tuned human body can achieve. You are mere human? Aren’t you? Those grades,,, I’m beginning to wonder.
Great job Ollie and Hank!!
You inspire us wannabees. LOL
If I were walking by, I wouldn’t be looking at the bikes!!!
Fantastic video. Production quality out of this world. Ollie and Hank’s genuine love of cycling really shines through. The GCN kit with those machines looked full on pro too.
Epic level of faffing on the cafe stops - Simon would be proud!
We're all experts at Faffing here at GCN
The best GCN epic ride 'video' ever - cracking, well done to you both
Watching this makes me both sad and happy. Sad because summer is over for now, and happy because when summer comes again there shall be some epic rides.
Great watch as I enjoy my Sunday morning coffee! Well done on the achievement lads - some of those climbs looked painful! More videos like this please GCN. (And maybe less of the repetitive other stuff you tend to be showing at the moment - constructive feedback). Cheers Paul
Got to love the pairing of Ollie the lad from Donny with James from his castle in the south!
Again beautifully made, visual treat. Great route, nice banter. Love watching these clips! Keep doing them.
Outstanding lads that was next best video to GCN 500 content as superb & scenery nearly as good as Scotland 🏴🚴🏻♂️🚴🏻♂️🏴🏴🏴🏴👏🏻👏🏻
I remember going up hardnock pass wondering if I’d get to the top! And I was in the car.
It's steep isn't it!
these guys are superstars
They might look like superstars, but you don't have to work with them ;) Only joking, they're alright I guess
some azazing footage. well played boys/camera crew. Great day out, even on them bikes ;)
Hey guys, I've been watch GCN for close to ten years and I have to say this is my fav vid ever...amaizing job fellas...and amaizing Wiliers!!! Seeeeexie!!!!
One of the best videos GCN have done. Amazing route, great scenery, maybe could have had some drone shots but some great camera work nevertheless. Looked like an awesome/tough day out.
I’m with Ollie on the cream and jam debate!
@19:00 just epic, got some goose skin 😍😍
Great ride guys nice work
Best gcn vid in a while! Solid work!
Glad to hear it, thanks for watching!
My summer: cycling impossible due to ongoing knee and hip injury. Now stuck indoors for 10 days due to COVID outbreak at work. Watching GCN rides is torture!
Hope you get back on the bike soon
My two favorite presenters in GCN. Even though I really miss Matt.
Matt who
I like to go back to the old videos once in a while that feature him. Max, he's referring to an old presenter that left about two years ago named Matt Stephens.
They are all good presenters ! Including Simon! Is Matt the old guy who was a bit slow on a bike but a good presenter ! Wonder what he is doing now ! Should get him back for a one of special GSN
@@maxs6775 Matt's staying busy doing lots of other cycling stuff. He has a nice podcast with Sigma Sports.
@@billincolumbia I heard he became a pundit or some sort.
The scenery is beautiful. I watched this video last night after work and before sleep. This video help me relax, especially for people like me who's never been in Europe.
Nice trip lads. We have a Coast to Coast here in the South Island of New Zealand also. 240km.
11:05 this is why a bandana under the helmet works a treat; stops all the sweat/sun cream dripping into your eyes. Also covers the back of your neck and, as an added bonus, can be soaked in water to provide a little extra cooling.
Cracking content guys - definitely an epic ride. That bike is certainly a thing of beauty 👌🏻
Fantastic ride boys! Chippy Tea!! Love it .. my favourite tea! It's great to see you take on a tough ride, having a laugh and using genuinely affordable kit.. splendid 👍🏻
Great video, very inspiring. Some of those climbs seem a bit terrifying; I hope to be able to try them someday.
I’m not doing that ride, but I am definitely having the chippy tea tonight 😋
Absolutely brilliant, loved the video and found it proper inspiring. Some fantastic videos of late. More of the same please and keep up the good work 👏
