In this subseries of my Dialing In... series, I will be taking an in depth look at the microphones in the Line 6 Helix/HX Stomp/Pod Go and showing ways we can explore the different mics and deal with their unique characteristics to get the most out of each model. I really hope you enjoy the video.
As always, thanks so much for watching...

Great video Jason. Cabs and mics make up a huge part of the tone, so would be great to see explore this more.

fantastic knowledge and info here Jason (as always). So many folks dont undersatnd how much the mics make a huge difference and can make the stock cabs come to life if you use the right amp, cab, mic and EQ correctly. cant wait for this entire series. keep it up

Great video. I find that the 121 Ribbon works well with single coil PUPS. It provides that bottom boost and tames the harsh highs. I have used the 57 more with humbuckers, but this video gives me some more possibilities with the 121 which I love. I tends to be my favorite. I also mix the two on different cabs.

Incredible as always. Thanks Jason. One suggestion tho, would you please get out of that overused pentatonic world sometime, some modal approach, or any exotic scale would be more interesting and inspiring.

Sure, I have plenty of videos up on my channel performing original music with lots of modal playing. These videos are about tones.

It's probably difficult to program but I think if Line 6 could add the angle of a mic to the cab options I'd probably never use an IR again.

actually it WOULD be very difficult as for each inch setting away from the speaker grill they would also have to record thr sound at each angle so instead of maybe 20 different sound samples theyd have to record 100s and thats just for ONE amp never mind for each of the HUNDRED amps that are in the Helix so for sure wont happen on this hardware version of the Helix but maybe in the 'next-gen' Helix hardware as yes the angle also makes a big difference in the sound (straight vs 45 degrees) and other effects units do have that ability

Can I recommend trying the 4038 ribbon (very bass heavy) then a real bright mic like 57 dynamic, then either adjusting the output levels or fading the AB. With some appropriate eq I get some great results.

I have great results with that mics blended in XXL cab for modern metal. Works very nice.

@@ConstantineM eq'ed correctly you can get some great low end and a biting but not shrill high end. A well rounded tone in my opinion.

@Jason - I commented on a video by Johan Segeborn today called "Make your NEW Greenback sound like the ORIGINAL using EQ MATCHING!!!" about the great tone matching results you've been able to get with the Izotrope "Match EQ" plugin.
I was trying to find some of your videos showing your use of the Match EQ plugin, but have had trouble finding them as plugin name doesn't appear in the names of your videos. I was wondering if you could list some of the names of your videos that demonstrate the use of the Match EQ plugin, so I can post them in the comments of Johnan's video mentioned above. Or better yet, maybe you can just post the video titles there so Johan doesn't have to hunt for them. Thanks

In this virtual environment, if you want flat response like from a ribbon mic, and are going to add your own EQ, why select a mic at all? Because of the simulated distance control?
