Why I Wrote the Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman

My Teatro Lambe Lambe style puppet interpretation of this essay by feminist horror master Charlotte Perkins Gilman on why she wrote her most chilling work, The Yellow Wallpaper in the late 1800s.
The Yellow Wallpaper is the fictional story of a young woman and her husband, who imposes a rest cure on her when she suffers "temporary nervous depression" after the birth of their baby. They spend the summer at a colonial mansion, where the narrator is largely confined to an upstairs nursery with sickening yellow wall coverings that she comes to despise. She starts to hallucinate a woman trapped in the wallpaper and slowly loses her mind from being forced to convalesce without any intellectual stimulation or meaningful human contact.
Largely based on the author’s own experiences being mislabeled as an ‘hysteric,’ this short story in itself is sublimation at its finest.
