But you should not hold an adult cat with just their scruff, they like to be petted on the scruff, but don't hold them with just the scruff, since their body weight is too high and it makes them uncomfortable, also don't grab them by the scruff if the cat isn't friendly to you, since sometimes dogs and cats grab each other by the scruff to dominate each other.
Imagine a tiger attacks your village and everyone is running except someone who is walking towards it, they go "I got this" and pull out a clothes peg.

Helpful Vancouver Vet covered this topic. Holding that scruff is safe and perfectly fine. The problem comes when you try holding up a cat in the air by just that scruff. In a small month or younger kitten, it's fine because they're so small. As they get bigger though, it becomes very painful for the cat to be picked up like that.

I was dubious about the animal abuse claim, and yeah no. I've owned over a hundred cats in my life, and the vast majority were raised from birth. Momma cat's do indeed use this method. The reason why I was dubious is that some of those washing clips can actually pinch quite hard, much harder than a momma cat who's specifically trying to be gentle. But by the looks of it the kitten was fine and wasn't hurt at all. Kittens don't mind being carried this way, vets even use clips to subdue older cats as well. Edit: Yeah anyone who thinks this is animal abuse needs to get a fucking clue. Cats won't just come back to you if you hurt them, every single time the guy takes the clip off the kitten springs back to life and immediately runs over to him. If the kitten was hurt by the clips it would be mewling, or it would've ran away, or it would be arching it's back at you and trying to look big. Any of the typical "kitten in distress" behaviours, maybe even all of them at the same time if you pissed it off enough. If you want something funny you can do to your cat that isn't gonna be potentially harmful, just tie a rope of toilet paper around their tail. It's completely harmless to the cat, and you get to see them attacking their own tail for a few minutes before they figure out how to remove it. You can't even hurt the cat by tying the knot too hard because toilet paper just breaks if you try that.

The cat spacing out is a natural response that isnt 100% understood, but that is the general consensus of it being a mechanism for the mother. You can scruff your adult cats and they will still respond the same way, but picking them up via their scruff(unless you have a very small cat) can cause back problems. But yes if a cat is rowdy and needs immediate attending to, scruffing it is used in vet clinics.

A scruff is like an extra flap of skin/fur on the back of an animal's neck, scruffs are practically elbows in a sense. When you pinch your elbow, it doesn't hurt; the same goes for what the owner did in this video (what the owner did was called "scruffing" or clipnosis, this allows the kitten/cat to stay calm considering this is exactly what the mother cat would do, which would be to hold/carry the kitten by it's scruff).

The reason why I was dubious is that some of those washing clips can actually pinch quite hard, much harder than a momma cat who's specifically trying to be gentle. But by the looks of it the kitten was fine and wasn't hurt at all. Kittens don't mind being carried this way, vets even use clips to subdue older cats as well.
Edit: Yeah anyone who thinks this is animal abuse needs to get a fucking clue. Cats won't just come back to you if you hurt them, every single time the guy takes the clip off the kitten springs back to life and immediately runs over to him. If the kitten was hurt by the clips it would be mewling, or it would've ran away, or it would be arching it's back at you and trying to look big. Any of the typical "kitten in distress" behaviours, maybe even all of them at the same time if you pissed it off enough.
If you want something funny you can do to your cat that isn't gonna be potentially harmful, just tie a rope of toilet paper around their tail. It's completely harmless to the cat, and you get to see them attacking their own tail for a few minutes before they figure out how to remove it. You can't even hurt the cat by tying the knot too hard because toilet paper just breaks if you try that.

If the cat starts to speak Portuguese it is probably because he wants to send you to Brazil. It is a common problem and I know the solution.
First you will need a computer and an SD Card. Go to the official website of the company from which you bought or adopted the cat, and then go to the download page. You will need to download the "Soul-resetting" drive. Place the file in the SD and remove it from the computer. Since the cat is probably aggressive, disable it using the video method. Insert the SD into the cat. You will see a menu on the cat's retina. Press the left and right paw to navigate the menu, and pull the tail to confirm. Click on the "install custom drive" option. The process takes about an hour, and when the installation is finished, restart the cat. Hope this helps.

Katie Katie As someone studying veterinary science right now, with a veterinarian father, scruffing a kitten is not harmful at all. The cat spacing out is a natural response that isnt 100% understood, but that is the general consensus of it being a mechanism for the mother. You can scruff your adult cats and they will still respond the same way, but picking them up via their scruff(unless you have a very small cat) can cause back problems. But yes if a cat is rowdy and needs immediate attending to, scruffing it is used in vet clinics.

The clip was placed onto something called a "scruff". A scruff is like an extra flap of skin/fur on the back of an animal's neck, scruffs are practically elbows in a sense. When you pinch your elbow, it doesn't hurt; the same goes for what the owner did in this video (what the owner did was called "scruffing" or clipnosis, this allows the kitten/cat to stay calm considering this is exactly what the mother cat would do, which would be to hold/carry the kitten by it's scruff).
