Almost 10 years ago, but this still brings a lump to the throat. I'm not even a particularly 'sports-oriented' person, but 2012 was properly magical. Certainly contrasts with how everything feels now. I feel like we desperately need something similar to remind us that the world doesn't have to be a wall-to-wall shitshow.
2012 was more blessed than magical. And the same blessing characterised the mourning for and funeral of Her Late Majesty and the Coronation and even the Coronation Concert. The Holy Spirit was with those things as well. But the Paris Closing, Eurovision and the recent MTV awards all show signs of being in the hands of darkness, to say nothing of the pandemic and war and other bad things of the 2020s. Of course this Elbow sing is also divinely-inspired
I missed the Olympics because of charity work-coming home and watching all the recorded stuff, and also visiting London on the way back, was pretty special. Watching this video almost brought me to tears.
This song with all Britain's gold medal winners is just fantastic.I've also performed this song once in my university and the performance at closing ceremony(all songs) were really great.
Hi there, never got the time to do this but your record played on the way to see my dad in a care home in harrogate when I was told he had not long to live. I was very lucky to be with him that morning and hold his hands when he took his last breath. When I put his ashes at the John Charles Stadium, Hunslet between the goal posts in the Rugby Ground, he played for Hunslet and Great Britain in the 1950-1966 your record played on the way to the care home and on the way home. Then when I went to see him on my own at the stadium and sat in the number 3 seat and asked him to let me know he was ok, when I got back to the car your record came on first and then Skyfall, then Hello by Adele which were the 3 records that played on my way to see him that morning. My father was no 3 and this is a big number in my life as well as many other numbers but this one is massive. Music is a wonderful uplifting part of my life and I thank you and your song for being there with me and these songs let me know that dad is watching over me every day and make me smile when they come on the radio. There was also the most beautiful biggest rainbow i have ever seen on the way home on the A1 which was a further sign that he was watching over me again your record playing, thank you for your great song. It was very apt as my father played for his country Great Britain, Rugby League Player and was a Yorkshire man through and through. His name was Geoff Shelton, look him up on Wiki he looked like Elvis and is my hero and my father. He was also incredibly poor as a boy, youngest of 12 and mum and dad died when he was 12 so therefore to die on Yorkshire Day, and at the time of 2012 Olympics, with your tune, Skyfall and Adele Hello was incredibly well timed or he was just the most amazing special hero you could ever meet! thanks again, Love Mel x his daughter Melanie Shelton - look me up on Linked in, soon to be setting up my own business, helping the world to be a better place, helping people in need and enjoying life and being the best I can be!
China has 1 billion more people than Britain, America has 300 million more yet they only get 16 gold medals more? Worlds most talented nation goes to Great Britain I think
@Dave Sherrat this video was mainly basted on olympians and soon i was goong to upload another one for paralympians bur i havent decided a song yet - any ideas?
MelissaGilly98, am I correct that this version of the song was played live in the closing ceremony? If so, where do you get it? I love this version and I would like to get it. Claudio
I believe I found the answer to my own question. Did you get it from "A Symphony Of British Music - Music For The Closing Ceremony Of The London 2012 Olympic Games"?
Well if you watch it again real carefuly you will see a couple of those paralympians within the 1st 30 seconds...... lets hope those depressing inabilities never effect you at any time soon, cos I doubt you would get sympathy from anyone on here.....
