I lost my mum just before Christmas! Just flicking over the TV channels and I see Bob and Paul, Gone fishing, with this song playing!…..I broke down! I’m writing this with tears just pouring down my face!……..Thanks for everything you’ve done for me mum! I’m going to miss you! God bless! 😢
Played this at my mother's funeral a few months back - who worked with Anita Whitehouse (head and deputy school head) way back in the early 1980s in Enfield. Way back then she regailed us about Anita's decorator son who she said was a laugh a minute..... Little did we know.... Absolutely wonderful song. Mother was Glaswegian and so this is especially poignant...
Heard this at the end of Gone Fishing ...thanks Bob and Paul and the Proclaimers. Beautiful song, had to come and look it up. Made me think of my dad; still miss him after 22 years, but still have the love he left ❤
@@andymoody8363 Same bud. Such a great show. 'Please don't strike me, but your foot appears to be a . . . . . . pigs trotter . . . . . or a hoof' Lmao. Such a great connection between those two. oh 'and . . . . away . . . . ;
Bob and Paul, it's early in the morning, I'm also enduring chemotherapy for incurable cancer. I'm writing this through tears, Thank you , Tthank you for bringing this music to me.
Seems most of us came here after watching paul and bob, what a wonderful song and a fantastic programme ! Fishing should be prescribed on the national health!
It's really rare. I have been looking for guitar chords for this beautiful song, also following 'Gone Fishing' which is my favourite show by a mile. None exist to this day which is very very rare.
Well,,my Mum passed away on 6 December. We didn’t play this song at her funeral - we had ‘Rowan Tree’, ‘Amazing Grace’ and ‘Silent. Night’. But I’ll still think of her whenever I hear this beautiful song.
Watched Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing when they met a chap who had been fishing for many years and he caught his record fish and soon afterward he was told that he had the big C and sadly he passed away before the show was aired such a nice song for that sweet man RIP
I watched Mortimer and whitehouse and heard this for the first tine, I would just like to say that it’s an emotional song and tugged at something inside of me As a fisherman it never leaves you Rip John moses and tight lines
Beautiful tribute to John Moses at the end of the episode..Pail and Bob are a great duo together and their fishing exploits are touching and hilarious at times.I too have had a triple by-pass and thankfully have recovered sufficiently to continue fishing.Makes me enjoy even more now the moments that we can share with good friends whilst fishing and the genuine friendships that will last forever.(RIP John Moses you seemed such a fine gentleman)
Recorded Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse , only just watched this episode!, so sad to see that John Moses past away , and then to hear this song !..... Oh My! Beautiful !! RIP John Moses "Tight lines!"
Like Paul and Bob, I think many of us in our 70’s can identify with the words of this wonderful song, so beautifully sung by the Proclaimers and particularly if we are fly fishers ! Thank you both for introducing this to us and well done to the program Producers for such an emotional experience. As the song says ‘…three score years and ten..” anything after that is a bonus. One then thinks more and more of ones own mortality and if each day you wake up, will it be your last? Songs like this really help to express how one may feel about this and I am sure Bob and Paul’s great friendship, forged stronger through adversity and made stronger with fishing together is expressed in these lyrics.
Sixties too for me… Like quite a few folks, the ‘Gone fishing’ series 1 episode 3 with Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse reminded me of such a beautiful song. I think it probably resonates with lots of people of all ages too. So so beautiful. Bless the Guy, who passed away.
I absolutely love watching Paul and bob..the fishing..the conversation..the joking around..bob falling..the fantastic scenery..it has it all..love it..an escape from this cruel covid world we are all stuck in..what a beautiful song too..
my sister passed away last night and this sums up the death of a brilliant women who arranged her own funeral and was more concerned about her sister and I rip my beautiful sister at peace now xxxxx
And several years later Bob & Paul's program has brought me here too. Was already moved by the song, the mood and the scenery but then when I saw the dedication in the credits to the old man on the bank Bob chatted to (John Moses?) who we found out had since passed away...
Just had the telly on and "Gone Fishing" came on -I was going to change the channel, but the scenery of the River Tay and the relationship and the friendly banter between these two stayed my channel-zapping finger. To my surprise, I watched it to the end, and then a few lines of this poignant and beautiful song came on, but the title did not appear in the credits. Google d the first line and viola! Straight into my playlists. The Proclaimers are getting even better now that life has given them the experiences of what really matters. :-)
Just heard this with Bob and Paul , had to look it up, I can see I'm not the only one. Guess grief is an obvious part of life. Achingly beautiful song.
Every song I see on here of the proclaimers, I think-this is their best ever!....then another presents itself and I’m off again. I have everything they’ve ever done and seen them live so many times. There really is no better. 🕶🕶
After just watching recorded episode of Paul and Bob Gone Fishing and hearing this touching song I came straight here to find it. Must try to see the Proclaimers in concert some time.
This one song has turned me into a big Proclaimers fan. Kind of passed me by until now but I now have a Proclaimers playlist on Spotify and it is getting bigger by the day!!!
Me too... what a musical gem the wonderful Gone Fishing has unearthed. I reckon the tuneful Paul Whitehouse should do a version - is so embodies the sentiment of the programme.
