My school had this absolutely insane rule: by using the school’s wifi on your phone, “the school has the right to search or modify its contents.” This *apparently* included deleting game apps and installing spyware on that poor student’s phone.

I went to a school with a uniform (normal in the UK) and the dress code was insane. You weren't allowed to wear jackets/coats that were certain colours or materials (absolutely NO denim allowed) and they even controlled what colour socks and hairbands you could wear. I remember one kid getting detention for wearing red socks because it's all she had that was clean that day. Absolutely ridiculous.

As a middle school teacher, most school rules fall into one of three categories:
    1. Rules that only exist because a handful of students fuck everything up
    2. Rules from state requirements or administration that teachers hate just as much as students
    3. Rules from teachers going on weird power trips - usually in needlessly strict schools

My elementary was probably the worst, they had that "no tolerance" policy. One time I was beaten by some kid and I didn't throw a single punch, I got detention and he got off scot-free. They were also TERRIBLE at picking teachers, as some were rude, power-hungry, terrible at teacher, and a few were even sexist or racist. Truly the tale of a cruel world.

When I was in high school we would have assemblies at the beginning of the year and go over the dress codes. One rule we had was that underwear must be worn. My sophomore year I stood up in the middle of the assembly and asked if random underwear spot checks were going to be performed? The next year that rule was deleted from the student handbook.

In 7th grade, we were that class. The one who always got into trouble and had a class lecture with the principal every other week. It got so bad to the point we had set times to go to the bathroom (A rule still enforced at that school btw).
One of the girls really needed to go, but the teacher would let them because ppl would skip class and hang out in the bathroom, but it's always that one time they actually have to go. The teacher thought she was bluffing, but when she actually peed herself, he had like this whole apology to the class. Some bathroom rules changed after that, but it still kinda stayed the same after.

Both my middle and high school had some very strict rules, except that my middle school was more strict. They had nearly every rule on this list, no cell phones in class, no hats or hoods except if it's for religious reasons, dress code that was strict on girls, food being strictly forbidden in class (depends on the teacher with water bottles), and a lot of other dumb rules school would have. But my middle school had a weird rule where we're not allowed to use our backpacks to carry our stuff. And we used hall passes until the teachers started using this app to track who's using the restroom once they started distributing iPads to the students.
When I got to high school, I found it weird that everyone was using their backpacks to carry their shit and how there was no dress code. However, I find it weird how in both of my schools, when you finish an exam, I have to wait until everyone else is done or until the end of class. I'd rather chill in the cafeteria or the hallways than to sit there in awkward silence. I'm currently in College so when I'm done with an exam, I'm out of there. I like how much freedom you have in college. Going to class is optional, if you need to piss you could get up and leave without asking, and you get to take classes that you're actually interested in.

I had same 15/15 rule. When I got to freshman year, my school did passes that if unused you could use as extra credit. Problem was they only gave you like 4 for the semester and if you needed to go after using your 4, you had to borrow from someone else or not go. Uniforms from 7th to graduation(even the bandalooms brackets were banned). No laptops allowed. Phones silent and put in backpacks. Weren’t allowed to take anything to the bathroom with us when permitted to go, so girls had to get creative with hygiene products, especially in male teachers classrooms. No food/drink. Saturday school if you got in trouble. ACTs on saturdays. If you were on a sports team, you had even more rules to follow. You can’t play/are punished for getting a D or less in a class(at least my coach). We even had a stupid attendance rule that you couldn’t miss more than 10 days in the year when it related to school activities. I had to fight with principal on this despite being a straight A student with perfect attendance as I missed a lot due to participating in multiple school organizations. They went so far as to install alarms ad camera on all the doors to catching kids ditching. We weren’t allowed to have any open food/liquids coming in to school and had backpacks checked+metal detectors+scanned. Even had my jug of water for softball taken away. Some school rules are really dumb and the lengths they go to to get people to comply is even worse. Schools are training for prison.

Another hat rule is at my highschool hats were allowed everywhere but there was a neighbouring highschool that had much better accessibility to meet the needs for those whose require specific aids. One time, a student who went there, they had something where any direct light screwed with there vision and the school won't budge the no hat rule for him to see properly. So he swapped schools to mine where hats where the norm, he fit in perfectly well. Teachers and students alike were dumb founded that other school just wouldn't let him where a baseball cap.

I know the light one very well. For me both the school and teachers are given the heads up on people with special needs and medications and it makes select exceptions for them, for me it is wearing prescription sunglasses in some classes due to my light sensitivity. There was one time a substitute teacher was there and he yelled at me, snatched and threw the shades at the ground (which did some damage to them). The teacher also thought I was “high” since my pupils were bigger than normal (which is normal for me) so he brought me to the office and told them I should be suspended however the substitute got quite the earful himself and was ordered to apologize to me. When we got back to the classroom some students said things like “so how did the chat in the office go?” or “what is the punishment this time?” while others had a hard time not laughing.

Yeah I remember a rule I had in high school that banned bookbags and forced everyone to put their stuff in their lockers instead. So if you didn't bring exactly everything you needed, you'd either carry around more than necessary (which is made harder without a bookbag), or go back to your locker and get whatever it was you needed.
Apparently the rule was made to prevent students from bringing in things they aren't allowed to like drugs or weapons. While I kinda(?) got that at first, the rule just falls apart when you realize pockets exist. And especially the fact that when I completely forgot my locker code and wasn't allowed to have a bookbag, I bought a "laptop bag" instead, which was almost the same thing anyways, actually was ALLOWED, and you can definitely store some pretty bad things in there so what was the point of the rule then?? And yeah, while most of the teachers didn't enforce this rule, a handful of them did!

Some of the worst rules we had were; no standing during lunch, if you go outside for lunch you can’t come back in until the bell rings, there was red tape that we had to stay inside of and it was crowded as hell, only 3 people in the bathroom and the bathroom line at a time, and you had to walk up to the bathroom a certain way. My history teacher has this really cool thing that he does called a Social Contract.
Essentially, it's a list of privileges thought up by the students and reasonable things that can take them away.
Example: you can eat in class as long as there are no messes that aren't cleaned up.
Example 2: you can sit where ever you want as long as nobody is moved to the 'safe seat'
Example 3: no homework on Fridays unless there's 0s in the gradebook (only applies to his class)
    -------------------------------------------------
In the school there's a way of punishment called BIST (I have no idea what it stands for)
Some kids act up: I see your having trouble doing what I asked, can you please do what I asked even if you don't want to (warning)
Kid does it again (safe seat)(seat apart from the other)
Kid does it 3rd time (buddy room)(room next door)
Kid does it 4th time (cool down room)(room where you cool off, write down what you did wrong, and sit for the rest of that period)

They told us the consequences for use of drugs and alcohol, in order to out of school, at that assembly. If you get caught with something like that, then it’s immediate suspension and a call home, and I thought “what if something was wrong at home and you’re just making it worse?” Like they don’t even ask you “hey is everything ok?”

A few stupid rules that my schools had:
    - When you were playing sports, you had to play by the official rules (including handball, which was really annoying because before that tule, kids made up a ton of different rules and ways to play).
You had to sit with your class at lunch (in elementary school). And each class would only get one table and each class was literally 25-35 kids.
    - Almost all my teachers in middle school had a rule that you could only leave class to use the bathroom 3 times a semester or else your grade went down. The classes at my school were literally an hour and 45 minutes long.
    - If you got lunch detention, you got to skip the lunch line. And then like half the kids started claiming that they had detention to skip the line, and nobody stopped them.
    - No phone. At all. Not even during breaks. If you had to call you parents about pick up or something, you had to wait until you got off campus.
    - All shorts and skirts had to be knee length or more.
    - You weren’t allowed to skateboard to school.
    - No doodling during class. Apparently it meant that you weren’t paying attention.
That’s just some of the stupid rules that they had, but this comment is getting way too long, so I’ll just leave it there.

I remember in my high school, they had this one rule where the only time you can go use the bathroom is when class is transitioning, when everyone is in the hallway and was already pretty hard navigating because of it. When class is in session they would lock every bathroom door. To prevent students from going in.
I understand the reason as it wasn’t like this when I was a freshman (happened when I was a junior) but there was times when they didn’t check if anyone was in there and actually accidentally locked students in the bathrooms until the next bell rang.

And tank tops were allowed as long as they weren't spaghetti strapped.
Before that in elementary and middle school I was forced to wear uniforms until my last years there when the rule got removed, in middle school we weren't allowed to wear hooded jackets and water bottles had to be clear. Boys weren't allowed to bring backpacks into the bath rooms and if you wanted to have a snack in class you had to get a special pass the day before, and for some odd reason my math teacher had a rule where kids could only use the bathroom twice a week.

It’s a school holiday week and I needed to go back to pass up a form to the general office so they’ll pass it to my teachers. The guards at the gates never allowed me entry and said “vice-principal made a new rule. No uniform, no entry.”
Excuse me I walked a long distance in slippers and long pants on a hot day just to hear that? I was frustrated while walking back home. I’m tryna pass up a piece of paper, it ain’t like I have a class that day. Plus, I look embarrassing. And they said “whenever you wear uniform, you’re representing the school.”. So, they’ll be monitoring me-
One thing, I’m gonna be sweating to death as “you can’t tuck out your shirt.”. Like I just want to tuck it out cuz it’s uncomfortable to me. They literally punished a student in a mall for having their shirt untucked. This school is so strict even when you ain’t in school.

At one point, for some reason was problems in the bathroom, (later found out it was because older grades where shoving hall passes down the toilet and making them flood.) And it got to the point where we had to sign a list before the bell range to use it AT ALL during class. It was fine until they banned bathrooms entirely. You could only go if it was an absolute emergency, AND you had to use the one in the nurses office. They let us use them now, but that rule was ridiculous. Dress code is ridiculous too. One of my friends had to borrow my jacket not to get sent to the office since she got dress coded, which makes plenty sense since she was wearing a very short shirt. But my other friend who had a long sleeve shirt on, that didn't even show skin, got dress coded for it being "too short". Another rule, we have some ridiculous hallway thing where we can only go one direction because it will apparently " cause less fights". I've already seen plenty of them, and it just makes getting to class harder. I just barley make it to my classes because they are far apart, and being late has consequences too, like detention, referrals, etc.

At the high school I went to I was actually able to give the “no hat” rule the middle finger for a entire week. The reason is due to the aftermath of the brain surgery I got (goodbye seizers) and a doctors note I tapped to the bottom of the visor. Also at the college I went to everyone was actually allowed to wear next to any kind of shirt they wanted (sleeveless is one I wore quite often) as long as the image on it wasn’t a no no (i.e. swastika). And pants still needs to be at minimum even with one’s longest finger when standing up (and at one’s waist not hanging down so far you could see another person’s underwear🤢) otherwise just like the shirt anything goes. Nowadays though I bet it became stricter with how things are lately.

the hat thing had to do with reducing gang activity as oftentimes gangs and cliques wear certain hats and in certain ways sometimes, also it tends to be a rule because sometimes hats can obstruct others view, and, people have used hats to hide things, including test answers taped up under the bill and such, so, yeah, basically because of a few jackasses, no hats have been allowed in school for decades, i mean the no hat as unless its a '' specified hat day'' was in our schools since i was in school the 80s because of this crap. btw: awesome news on the successful brain surgery man, congrats ! thats fucking awesome dude !

I actually had a uniform as early as KINDERGARTEN. It was a whole vest, button up shirt, clip on tie, dress pants AND shoes. TLDR, my school is dumb as heck. Bruh my school makes us either write an essay, or copy a prewritten one down twice. The prewritten one literally has most of the time, nothing to do with what actually happened. Picture this. You are walking down the school hallway, and two teachers tell you to stop talking so loud. You stop. 30 seconds later, another pair of teachers chew you out, and say stuff like, "If YoU wErE iN oUr GrAdE, i WoUlD gIvE yOu A lUnCh DeTeNtIoN!!!!" and then they let you off. Next week, you go to study hall to complete a math check-in, and then you get called for a lunch detention. You get confused, and then you are told that the same group of teacher that were chewing you out, gave you lunch detention, and didn't tell you. This happened to me. Now imagine this, you want to sit with your friends at lunch, but you have to sit with your class. (bruh it's 7th grade why???) so you make a deal with the teachers that you could sit in an empty table. Eventually, you are told that you are not allowed to sit there anymore, as they are bringing in more classes. Understandable, right? 1 week later, the extra classes stop going to the cafeteria. We ask to move back, but nope. That spot is used for in case teachers need to sit there. No one has sat there in the past 2 weeks. WHAT CHANGED!? Lastly, imagine this. A group of dumb 7th graders go do something dumb at commons, and then the teachers block off the area they did it at because they can't see it, (complete lie) but only for the 7th grade. Next year, the same group of kids that caused the trouble, could go to that area to hang out as they pleased, but the new 7th graders, me have to deal with the consequences of their actions.
EDIT: Forgot to add, the school gives us uniform hoodies, and won't let us use the hoods.

My school doesn't have rules this terrible, we get to choose to eat in classrooms, and the only detention is after school. Also, I wore 25 hats this week and the only distractions were people worrying about my neck, so it's a rule most schools shouldn't have. That bathroom rule is the same at my school though, but since I rarely go to the bathroom and I don't just walk around the halls for half an hour, the teachers ignore the bathroom/hallway rules for me because I don't give them a reason to exist. That crosswalk rule, my school has inverted, they very much require us to use crosswalks, and they even upgraded the safety at the crosswalk to reduce the risk of people getting run over.

When I was in 8th grade, I got 3 lunch detentions that school year. The 1st and 3rd ones were for not bringing back a signed homework note after failing to do my homework, but the 2nd one was for flipping off one of my classmates who was laughing at me for having my earbuds confiscated because I was listening to music in class despite having been warned in the past not to do it (I was listening to "The Sharpest Lives" by My Chemical Romance when I got in trouble that day on Tuesday, 2/4/2020). Since my 4th period science class was after lunch, I was assigned to serve the detention the next day and the day after that.
The next day, Wednesday, 2/5/2020, there was a substitute teacher for my science class and all of the other people who were assigned lunch detention that day skipped the detention once they found out we had a substitute that day. I was the only one who decided to serve it because I didn't want to get into any more trouble than I was already in and I got to draw for the entire 40 minutes of my lunch detention.
I skipped school on 2/6/2020 because I had an orthodontist appointment that day, but when I came back on Friday, 2/7/2020, I showed up to serve my 2nd day of lunch detention only to be told that I didn't have to serve the 2nd day of the detention because I was the only one who served it on 2/5/2020. Meanwhile, all the other kids had to serve an extra day of lunch detention for skipping it.
3 years later, it's still one of my favorite life stories to tell. I served out my detention, and in the end, I got an honorable mention.

For me, it wasn't the schools fault, but the school boards fault.
I gotten into a fight once because someone go out in a game and thought I was out of the game, so he jumped around me. I pretty much chased them about 75 feet and stopped seconds before they tripped and hurt themself. Someone thought I hit them and pushed me into 2 others. 1 of them tried to break it up, but instead of going in the middle and breaking it up, they grab my back and try to break it up. While the person who pushed me and the other person I was pushed into start punching my left side of my face. It took a few seconds for me to realize, so I fight back. The teacher at the time didn't do anything to break it up, and got at me and the one who pushed me. Go to office, wait for receptionist to stop jacking off with a photo of her husband, send me to nurse because right above my left eye was bleeding. Then we explain both of our sides to the 8th grade principal. Principle calls both parents of me and other student. Principle says that I caused it, just to find out I had nothing to really do with it. Principle forgets to tell punishments, Mom arrived, other students parents not there before nobody cares about their kids in USA other than your non-blonde Christians with a Mexican father. Principle corrects himself about the call to my mom and I get checked up and etc. This was on a Friday, so next Monday, principal forgets about my punishment, I get told to go back downstairs outside to see the principal, just to get ISS. And by ISS, I mean where you are bored for half of the time, be anti-social while everyone else breaks the rules, occasionally hear people in the hall yelling "FREE (NAME)!". It was bad as teachers would give you the work after 5-7 hours, about 5 minutes before they day ends. About almost 2 weeks later and I can't go to the school dance because of ISS. Though it wasn't on my record, it meant I couldn't go to it, so I had suicidal thoughts and depression for about 2 hours, thought of causing an autrocity, forget any of it ever happening because I apparently have brain damage, and my mom ended up calling the school because I was permitted to use the schools main phone to call home to let her know, receptionist is now jacking off with a photo of her ex-husband or someone, eventually gets to me and I get to call, so back to my mom calling school when I got home, she explained how the school board's were dumb.
Now to the main part, the school board would rather have a students skull caved in, stomped on, brutally damaged or fractured than for me to fight back in self defense. Even though he one who pushed me gotten 2 days of out of school suspension. This is American schools at their finest, even after several mass-shootings where in Malls, there are 2 or 3 gunstores and only one book when someone gets lucky when buying a microwave, just to get Garry's Mod for Dummies.

So that kinda reminds me of something that happened when I was like 8 or 9
so there was a sub, like as a sub they were fine but they implemented like a weird thing, they gave out these like card things where if your bad you lose points or if your good you gained points or something like that (I don't 100% remember but it was kinda like that) so later into the day I *really* needed to piss and the sub said that they'd need to take a point off cause for some reason you'd also lose a point if you went to the bathroom. and so for some reason me at that time really didn't wanna do points so I hid it in my desk, like I'm not sure if other schools have desks like that but if you didn't the desks at our school were hollow and had a cubby that you could put stuff in, and so I hid my card in my desk pretending to not be able to find it and I raised my hand and told her I couldn't find it and she said I couldn't go so lets play a game, what did young me do?
    A. Nothing and sat at my desk
    B. Went anyways despite her saying no
    C. cried my ass off
    D. Pissed my pants
If you guessed D you'd be correct, for 2 main reasons. here were the pros and cons for me when I was thinking of doing it.
    Pros
    get to take a piss
    get to leave school
    Cons
    pants are dirty
so yeah, I pissed my pants and I got to go home early and for the rest of the day I stood home and played kirby.

5:13 so at my old school i had this teacher who was super strict, like not even reasonable his rules made no sense at all. he was such an asshole i hated him. but anyway there was this kid who really needed to use the bathroom but for some reason he wouldn’t let the kid go. come end of class, he walks by him and sees liquid all over the floor. he thought he spilled his water but what actually happened was the kid pissed himself because he couldn’t go. yeah. there was pee all over the floor. teachers, if you’re reading this, LET YOUR STUDENTS GO TO THE GOD DAMN BATHROOM
tl;dr: a kid at my old school peed his pants because our teacher wouldn’t let him go to the bathroom

2:39 I’m in a public charter school in the US, and by god the uniforms are expensive as hell. (If you’re a new student, the full set can cost over 100$) And they are strict about it as well. (Like no digital watches or hair bands on wrists for instance or its an automatic lunch or after-school detention) The uniform varies on what grade you’re in, but the gym uniform is the same.

7:08 I remember we were watching a movie and we had a sub so I pulled out my laptop, put the brightness all the way down and volume too and they told me I couldn’t use it.
I don’t want to watch some goofy movie let me do unfinished work.

My school had a system where you would have to use passes to go to the bathroom and you would have only a certain amount of passes each trimester. They said it was to “help teach us to manage stuff” or whatever. I only used a few a tri and it didn’t really affect me but some kids would use up all of them in like the first few weeks of the tri, probably to mess around or something cause ain’t not way the need to use the bathroom that many times.

I legitimately had to go to the bathroom 4-5 times a day cause I have terrible anxiety that gives me nausea, affects my bladder, etc.

7:30 This actually happened to me not even that long ago, it was on 2/28/2023 and there was a big fire at my school, when the principle got on the announcements and said "There is a fire in the 500 hall" I bolted out of my math class shoved EVERYBODY out of the way, and was out there first, before the firetrucks even got there (the fire station is really close to my school) and my old hagg of a teacher who is 72 and practically deaf, was like "everybody walk outside" like stfu I am bolting out of this mf.

I remember back when I was in 7th grade we had this school rule that we had to get a key from the principal's office in order to go to the bathroom to which I thought was stupid in my opinion. The principal made this stupid announcement that all of the bathrooms will be locked for the rest of the school year and everyone was not happy about it. The only reason why she made that announcement was because some students were being loud and disruptive in the bathroom.
It got to the point where everyone started complaining that some needed to go very bad and can't hold it until school is over, some needed to change for practice after school and some need to wash their hands in the sinks after finishing an art project or whatever.
It got so bad that the principal lifted the bathroom rule entirely and went back to having the bathrooms unlocked. I don't know what she was thinking at that point when she made that stupid rule but I knew it wasn't gonna last long and I think somebody knocked some sense into her.
Edit: Had to fix some typos.

@@WafflesssFalling Ikr? And get this, we wasn't allowed to go to the bathroom during periods meaning after we get out of class, we had to go to our next class without using the bathroom before the bell rings; we had to wait after the bell rings and ask the teacher for going .
Heck, the principal doesn't even know that some people have bladder problems and it's not good to hold it for too long or if someone gets sick and they can't get in there, they might make a mess on the floor and it'll smell bad. So yeah, it is unethical. My middle school days were the most traumatizing and stupidest events in my life.
