    Thank you Tim, my Delco cassette radio built in March 2003 doesn't have the 14 pin CD connector that everyone else uses to add an Aux input. Using your video I was able to cut into the FM circuit exactly as shown and can now enjoy listening to podcasts directly from my iPod without having to "play" a blank tape or CD. You are a gentleman and a scholar.

    Thanks a lot, i did it to my radio and it’s working beautifully. I made a video using your method in my channel with better resolution so people can see the solder points better

    I think for the Monsoon style AC/Delco head, there's some adapter called GM10AUX or some sort that plugs in the back. I'm considering this on my Grand Am. (Shame they tease us with the button, but don't provide this feature by default.) And I wouldn't hack up anything on front either, I'd run the wires down so the lead would come from the back of the storage cubby in the middle. Good spot to put the MP3 player and the connection is out of sight and out of the way when not in use.

    It works I just did mine and it sounds good but it comes out Mono not Stereo also my FM sounds with lower Bass and low volume.
    Great video Tim.

    Can you do a video for installing aux on 2003 Tahoe with 6 disc Bose with onstar?

  • @m-c-m-
    @m-c-m- 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would suggest doing it this way and avoiding mono sound, also would be easier for a notice to complete. There is a thread on LS1tech called How you can add aux input mp3 player without adapter that shows close ups and is cut and dry.

    Nice video lesson on aux. I counted the bottom connection spot
    from left to right 15 solder globs then 2 globs then the 1 single one is it.
    the top wire hooks to furthest left blob , of cross ways row of 7
    I have a radio like this from a 1999 venture van. I got it home, from
    salvage yard ) think I paid $10)
    Tried it on my test bench. Lite up display for just a second and fuse
    blew between radio and my 12 volt power supply . Do you suggest
    looking for a bad capacitor in the power supply. My other radio similar
    hooks up at the bench & worked fine. So its not the bench wiring.

    Tim, I want to mount the jack remotely. If I use two separate wires inside like you did and bring them to a panel mount RJ 11 at the back of the radio, then use a regular phone cable with the RJ 11 male on one end, cut the other end off to wire to the 3.5 jack, will I experience cross talk? Doing it this way gives me a nice clean small connection in case I have to pull the radio out for some reason. Also, it appears you are saying that it does indeed give you stereo audio quality and not mono correct? Thanks

    Nice video. Been watching a few videos about adding auxiliary inputs to car head units. Very interesting indeed. You wouldn't happen to know how to locate the preamp output signals in a FM modulator? I have a Kenwood 10 disc cd changer that I would like to add to a newer vehicle's factory head unit which is equipped with an auxiliary input. Problem is I do not want to utilize the FM modulated signal as the sound quality is terrible. I have the service manuals for both the cd changer and FM modulator, but I cannot figure out how to bypass the fm modulator. I would like to add 2 RCA connectors to the modulator, actually bypassing the fm modulation of the signal and have a nice clean full bandwidth signal to feed to my auxiliary input. Is this possible?

    Thanks! This worked great! However, it might be mentioned when using a five prong 3.5 mm jack it will be necessary to jumper between the two normally closed contacts. Otherwise, awesome!

      5 pin 3.5 jack, 4 of the connections acts as interrupted ONLY when u insert 3.5 jack, hence the signal from your AUX jack goes where it needed (before interruption it was coming from an fm radio module) research 5 pin 3.5 jack, 3 pin 3.5 jack wouldnt work

I have plenty of tools, even a decent scope, plenty of parts, but zero money right now. Your advice is welcomed. 73 de Seth - W8FG

    Alright, after setting everything up as instructed everything worked overall, however.. once running a test for the right and left audio channels I only have the Right Channel coming through on both speakers but no left channel.. is this how it suppose to work? Also, during the 1-2 seconds of silence between tracks the FM Radio station blasts through the speakers then it goes back to the music on your MP3/Phone/Music Player.. is this how its suppose to work? I'll Post a video of what I mean l8r

      I agree you can get an aux interface however; your unit must also be configured for the aux interface. You are correct that there are other ways of doing this. This application does give you 2 channels and sounds good at least for my old ears. For some just getting a more modern replacement radio with all the new technology provides overall greater value. This was just for fun and to show those who would like to play with electronics the infinite possibilities. Thank you for your valued feedback.

    Has anybody done this and ended up with the FM section being WAY quieter than the AM when finished? I'm pretty sure I have the right connections because the aux jack works fine. I also ran a continuity test between the two points he used before I cut the trace and it had continuity. What's also weird is I can only hear the ipod when on FM. If I have chosen AM, I hear AM radio. This is regardless of whether the ipod is plugged in or not. This is driving me nuts

  • @oemautosound
    @oemautosound 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Sorry but this is not the correct way of doing this, you are cutting audio from the FM decoder and the input its only one channel, Mono audio. everybody wants stereo, that is the reason you are only using 2 cables, I'm sure there is a better way to do this if you connect after the preamp for now there is a 9 pin plug on the back side of the radio and that works with the aux button no need to open the radio just purchase the correct cable with the interface and you can do this in 5 minutes search online for Chevrolet aux auxiliary input interface gm9-aux

    • @tmuckey
      @tmuckey  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually this is using 2 channels the third wire for common is the one to the case. This method does work quite well and sounds good. I do however agree there are other better, easier ways of doing this. This video was more for those that would like to try something new. This was just for fun and to get people thinking. Thank you for your valued input.

      Tim Muckey
      Hello Tim, thank you so much for giving hope to my old stereo. I don't think my unit is configured for the aux interface and anyway I think it's stupid to pay $40 to get an aux input (considering you can get a nice aftermark radio for less than $100). Can you just please clarify how this is using two chanels? If I correctly understand, one conects jack's pin 1 to ground, pin 2 to the amplifier's side conexion and 3 to FM's side conexion. Is it correct?

    • @usafa1992
      @usafa1992 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tim Muckey Can you explain how this works with 2 channels. Looking at that Aux port, shouldn't there be 5 wires coming from it? One pair for each channel, and one wire for ground? In the video I only see one pair being used to interrupt the audio on the circuit board. Shouldn't another pair be used as well? Your video doesn't explain in enough detail? I'm used to dealing with left & right audio. Doesn't cutting that trace only cut one channel of audio. Your videos & pictures are the only detailed source of info out there and seems to be the only solution that doesn't require a CD/Cassette in the deck. Please shed some clarity on how the left & right audio is being addressed. Thanks for taking the time to make these videos.

    • @blueuniform911
      @blueuniform911 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      oemautosound you are wrong. I have this same exact 2002 radio, and bought the gm9-aux kit you suggested, and it will NOT work. The only way the gm9-aux kit you suggest will work is ONLY if your car or truck also has the SEPARATE CD slave changer unit in ADDITION to the Delco dash Radio. You can plug in the gm9-aux kit to the back side of the Delco Radio all day long, but if there is no SEPARATE CD slave changer unit, you can NOT input anything through the 3.5 aux jack for the radio to play. I hope this helps others so they don't spend the money for nothing. That is why this modification that Tim Muckey posted is VERY helpful!

    • @oemautosound
      @oemautosound 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are confusing the PIE GM9-AUX with the inferior aai-gm9 from pac
      you don't need the slave CD or changer to use the GM9-AUX aux interface
