There is a song in the same album that you will love. Its called "Carolina IV". If you got impresed about his voice try "Fairytale" from the band Shaman (Andre was their vocalist after his split out with Angra)
I can't second this enough. As much a masterpiece as Holy Land is, Carolina IV is even more so, at least from a compositional perspective. And another choice to listen to Andre's vocal chops from the same album would be the song "Make Believe".

Unbelievably talented band. They use a lot of Brazilian instruments mixed with their metal style. Holy land is one of my favourite albums of all time. Absolute masterpiece!! You would love fairytale (live) by shaman, one of Andre Matos' other projects
It was such a pleasant and exciting surprise to find your reaction to two Angra songs, found on Holy Land album. It means a lot to us Brazilians, especially those who lived at that time, who got excited about those young guys simply using their talent and culture to make music different from the standards. Sadly, but somewhat comforting, there has been a late recognition and dissemination of these works, triggered by the early death of vocalist Andre Matos in 2019. Owner of immense musical knowledge, classical formation, differentiated and unique voice, stage performing compared to the best front leaders, Matos was and will always be very important for Brazilian Heavy Metal. The track Nothing to Say (also on Holy Land) is something that might interest you, as are other compositions and performances found on Shaman's albums (Ritual, Reason) and Andre's solo career (Virgo, Time to Be Free , Mentalize, The Turn of the Lights). We feel very proud and miss him, for his dedication, talent, humility and, of course, amazing songs. Matos would be completing 50 years of life on 09/14/21 when the documentary "Andre Matos o Maestro do Rock" will be released, telling and eternalizing his entire trajectory.
In this song, the sound of the piano emulates the rhythm of an instrument from capoeira (Brazilian martial art) called berimbau. From Angra, I suggest Carolina IV.
Holy Land, the album, is a real gem. The combination of power metal, with beautiful and decisive touches of classical music and Brazilian music, make this album a masterful work.I recommend, the excellent Nothing to say and the magnificent Carolina IV, my favorite always.
Well at first I thought this wasn't a good choice for a first Angra song but after seeing the video now I think it was. Their more traditional prog/power songs might've been more generic to his ears but this piece showcase their compositional skills and the great way they use folky Brazilian elements.
He doesn’t like it that much :D but this song in particular has no more than 45 seconds of double kick drum and the song is a masterpiece. Fabio Lione’s vocals, the choir, the piano, the orchestration. I suggested already this song in several comments, I hope Doug gives it a chance, I am sure he will enjoy it
Prog metal friends, this album brings so many memories and made me think about another album that I used to listen to when I listened to Angra. Probably none knows it, it is from an Italian band called Time Machine and the album is Act 2 Galileo. It’s a concept album on the story of Galileo and how the church mistreated him and his ideas and imprisoned him. Recommended.
Angra has 3 major phases. Power metal with the first formation, symphonic/power with Edu Falaschi/Aquiles Priester/Felipe Andreoli years (Rebirth to Aurora Consurgens), progressive metal (with Fabio lione/Bruno Valverde, Marcelo Barbosa). All albums are good and bring something to the table. In the beginning, just like sepultura, they brought a lot of brazilian music and rhythmic patterns to the arrangements, which gave the band an unique feel. ANGELS CRY, TEMPLE OF SHADOW, OMNI are good albums for all periods. also, ANDRÉ MATOS, R.I.P..
Hey Doug! As DT and Haken , Angra is one of my top 10 best bands ever ! I'm so happy that in a span of only 5 days or so, i've watched videos of you (maybe my favorite youtube reactor ) reacting to them ! You should really react to Shadow Hunter or Late Redemption from them - both songs are excellent.
This whole album is fantastic, love the quote from Palestrina in the intro. Carolina IV would be even more interesting (despite the double bass on the drums).
Glad to see you like ANGRA music. The First 2 albums with ANDRE MATOS (vocals - RIP) and 2 First albums with EDU FALASCHI are the VERY BEST of the Band.
Doug, latin america have great progressive rock/metal bands and artists. I recomended you Luis Alberto Spinetta from Argentina, in my opinion, one of the best latin musicians.
The Holy Land album is their best mix of Brazilian influences (both melodically and rhythmically speaking) with heavy/melodic metal. Would suggest other tunes like Nothing to Say and Silence & Distance and going into heavier stuff like the Temple of Shadows concept album.
Angra have always been a bit of a blind spot for me. I remember my guitar teacher in high school showing me a Kiko Loureiro instructional video, and me being really impressed and going downloading a load of their albums. I think the problem was it really wasn't what I was expecting it to be, like much less shreddy. When I later got into power metal they were a name that cropped up a lot so I tried again, but again because they aren't typical of that style it just wasn't what I was looking for. Listening again now for what is probably the be first time in 15 years I can definitely appreciate it more than I did (or at least this song), but I'm still not entirely sure they're a band I'll go out of my way to listen to on the regular.
So happy you decided to check out Angra! Glad you enjoyed it! I really would suggest checking out their album Temple of Shadows, it's one of my favourite albums of all time. Yes, there is some double bass, but the virtuosity of the musicians is incredible and something that wasn't really touched upon in this song. Every member of the band playing on Temple of Shadows is an absolute virtuoso and it remains a joy to listen to even 17 years after it was released. I think it'd make for a good long play review, there's a lot of variety through the album and a good mix of pace. The Brazilian influences are all there and some fun guest musicians which add a nice touch. As a prog album the overarching story is also very cool :) Looking forward to you hearing more from this band!
"Carolina IV" it's another great song from Angra (w/ Andre Matos). You really should take a look. It's also brazillian traditional music with metal but way more complex.
Nice reaction, as always! Indeed the mix of Brazilian rythms and instruments with 'Western metal/rock' is very cool. My favorite is The Shadow Hunter from the album Temple of Shadows, I really dig the acoustic guitar mixed with electric guitars.
I just want to say I was here when you only had a mere 100k subs. I don't think people will believe me by the time you reach a few millions. you go son
Angra is a masterpiece. Andre Matos was a composer and singer genious. R.I.P. By the way, this piano riff is traditional between capoeira dancers/fighters. Originally played on a Brazilian chord instrument called berimbau.
You should try the song "Late redemption" next. It's part of yet another conceptual album, Temple of Sahdows. The song features the MPB icon Milton Nascimento singing in portuguese! It's one of my favorites.
In northern Brazil there are several regional folk music styles. One of these styles practiced by guitarist Kiko Loureiro is Baião, and within Baião there are other rhythmic subgenres. The main representatives of Baião are Luiz Gonzaga and Dominguinhos.
you should try to react to Shaman - Over Your Head DVD version Shaman had 3 members of Angra!! Andre Matos(vocals, Keybords) Luis Mariutti(bass) Ricardo Confessori(Drums) over your head is a song about the 09/11 and is something like an World Music Metal(AMAZING!!!)
Carolina IV, Make Believe, Z.I.T.O.....man, this album have so much great songs. Angels Cry, Holy Land, Freedom Call and Fireworks albums are so awesome. Kiko Loureiro joined Megadeth. Doug, you need to react to Edu Falachi - Sea of Uncertainties, Skies in Your Eyes or Land Ahoy. He's also an ex-Angra member. PS: R.I.P André Matos.
Hey Doug, Welcome to Angraverse (universe of Angra)! A place were we have a lot of bands and projects from Angra's members and ex members. The next react should be the song For Tomorrow or Over Your Head from Shaman.
Very nice choice, Doug!! A short song but a very brilliant one just from one of the best album from Angra. I was blown away when I heard it some years ago.
the whole album holy land is an incredible fusion of symphonic elements, brazilian indigenous music and classic power metal. Its a concept album about the discovery and colonization of brazil, and south america in general. i suggest you check out Carolina IV from this album. it leans a bit more into the power metal, but is still very unique and a lot of fun. for some impressive vocals and beatiful organ i also suggest checking out deep blue. and this is without even mentioning their other albums. Angels cry is a classic 90's power metal album with progressive elements. Temple of shadows is a progressive power metal masterpiece telling the story of a crusader, the shadowhunter, becoming disillusioned to the christian faith after witnessing the horrors of the crusades. their other albums are great too, but these three are imo the most impressive and creative.
Also, I'd say Temple of Shadows by them is probably one of the best concept albums I have ever heard, beaten maybe only by Metropolis pt2. If you decide to do another long listening session, this should absolutely be at the top of your list (although you may have to ready your ear for some double bass drumming).
Happy to see my contry here, been following your videos for a while now :) André Mattos was often called "the maestro", he is a legend and I was very hearthbroken when we lost him a couple of years ago. You should definetly check other works by him, both in Angra and in Shaman, and also further works by Angra (the Albuns Rebirth and Temple of Shadows are my favorites). Comments are full of nice suggestions :)
Hi Doug, i'm glad you set your radar to Angra. About your analysis, the percussion isn't really indigenous but African, came here with the slaves centuries ago and was mixed with the impressionists from the end of the 19th century, Bizet, Ravel, Debussy and of course Chopin in a more distant time. This union formed our best music, called Música Popular Brasileira (Brazilian Popular Music) that has among its biggest names Villa-Lobos, Tom Jobim, Edu Lobo etc, and also our biggest rock names Sepultura (more percussion than impressionism lol...) and Angra. Greetings from Rio, Eduardo.

Now that you've done Angra, you HAVE to do Rhapsody of Fire!
Symphony of enchanted lands please!
The double pedal would kill Doug
Hey Doug you MUST to hear Carolina IV from the same album Holy Land, it's a masterpiece!
Andre Matos was an insanely talented Brazilian singer. RIP. This Angra era was amazing. I really miss this time
This whole album is fantastic, love the quote from Palestrina in the intro. Carolina IV would be even more interesting (despite the double bass on the drums).
Agreed
Glad to see you like ANGRA music. The First 2 albums with ANDRE MATOS (vocals - RIP) and 2 First albums with EDU FALASCHI are the VERY BEST of the Band.
Agreed. Holy Land is undoubtely their best album, although not my personal favourite (I liked Rebirth more)
Doug, latin america have great progressive rock/metal bands and artists. I recomended you Luis Alberto Spinetta from Argentina, in my opinion, one of the best latin musicians.
Next one about Angra, absolutely: "Angels Cry", with that central neoclassical section, it would be perfect for a Doug's reaction. 👌
up!
First time I see someone react to this masterpiece of Brazillian music! Thanks!
Hey Doug, i'm from Brasil, and i'm really happy that you reacted to Angra. Thank you!
The Holy Land album is their best mix of Brazilian influences (both melodically and rhythmically speaking) with heavy/melodic metal. Would suggest other tunes like Nothing to Say and Silence & Distance and going into heavier stuff like the Temple of Shadows concept album.
Try reacting to "Late Redemption - Angra", from an album called Temple of Shadows.
The album is a concept. Reaction to the entire album please!
Imagine Doug reacting to Temple Of Hate by Angra... The double kick will pierce his skull lol
He will wonder who that other vocalist is, though - even though he has reacted to Helloween before :)
I love that song. The ending where everything slows down except for the kick drum is so good.
or Nova Era for that matter
It's tlue
I think Morning Star for that same album is a better introduction to TOS.
You have to listen to their "Temple of shadows" album on a long run, it's a masterpiece!!!!
Sure... but he'll probably complain about the double kick all the time. 😂🤷🏻♀️
Oh man, I forgot about that... 😂😅
One of the best albums of all time. I made my gf a temple of shadows t shirt 10 years ago. Still wears it lol
As a prog album the overarching story is also very cool :)
Looking forward to you hearing more from this band!
This is so cool. As a Brazilian composer and a huge fan of Angra, I am happy to see their music in your channel. Nice review Doug!
"Carolina IV" it's another great song from Angra (w/ Andre Matos). You really should take a look. It's also brazillian traditional music with metal but way more complex.
Shaman - Fairy Tale! Andre Matos was the singer too, amazing song.
Nice reaction, as always! Indeed the mix of Brazilian rythms and instruments with 'Western metal/rock' is very cool. My favorite is The Shadow Hunter from the album Temple of Shadows, I really dig the acoustic guitar mixed with electric guitars.
Angra is my favorite band!!!! liking it, before even watching the video!
What a surprise to discover a song from one of my favorite bands featured in your channel! Thanks for the analysis, really enjoyed the video
Ele ousou invocar brasileiros? Come to Brazil👀
As always, it's great stuff man, thank you for this reaction.
man, I get emotional when I see these reactions and I reaffirm how beautiful my Brazil is...Angra is proud of Brazil.
I don't always watch reactions of music I don't already know, but when I do; it's with Doug. Keep it up.
You should try the song "Late redemption" next. It's part of yet another conceptual album, Temple of Sahdows. The song features the MPB icon Milton Nascimento singing in portuguese! It's one of my favorites.
Viva o Angra. Patrimônio do Brasil!
In northern Brazil there are several regional folk music styles. One of these styles practiced by guitarist Kiko Loureiro is Baião, and within Baião there are other rhythmic subgenres. The main representatives of Baião are Luiz Gonzaga and Dominguinhos.
you should try to react to Shaman - Over Your Head DVD version
Shaman had 3 members of Angra!! Andre Matos(vocals, Keybords) Luis Mariutti(bass) Ricardo Confessori(Drums)
over your head is a song about the 09/11 and is something like an World Music Metal(AMAZING!!!)
Amazing ! I Love your vídeo ! I love Angra ! From Brazil Here !!!!!
So good to see a lot of Brazilians fellas fans of good music and Doug together. "É nóis Caraí" (Brazilian untranslatable phrase)
Greetings from Brazil! It's great to se an Angra reaction. Thanks.
I was expecting for this! Fantastic! Keep going man! You're fantastic!
Hey Doug, Welcome to Angraverse (universe of Angra)! A place were we have a lot of bands and projects from Angra's members and ex members. The next react should be the song For Tomorrow or Over Your Head from Shaman.
Thank you so much Doug, greetings from Brazil
Very nice choice, Doug!! A short song but a very brilliant one just from one of the best album from Angra. I was blown away when I heard it some years ago.
Orguuuuullho!!!!!
Thank you Doug for doing this react on Angra, a very talented band from my country!!! I'm proud that you liked them!
the whole album holy land is an incredible fusion of symphonic elements, brazilian indigenous music and classic power metal.
I think you'd like "Lasting Child", the ending is a whole music on itself, and the vocals are, as always, impecable
You should react to Candlemass. The Edge of Heaven would be a good choice!
I would've picked Make Believe from the same album. That's an incredible song.
Make believe is really THE best choice for Doug.
You see it on tv? Its awesome. Makes me cry Matos is gone
Deep blue
Also, I'd say Temple of Shadows by them is probably one of the best concept albums I have ever heard, beaten maybe only by Metropolis pt2. If you decide to do another long listening session, this should absolutely be at the top of your list (although you may have to ready your ear for some double bass drumming).
Happy to see my contry here, been following your videos for a while now :)
André Mattos was often called "the maestro", he is a legend and I was very hearthbroken when we lost him a couple of years ago.
Greetings from Rio,
Eduardo.
You guys should check Carolina IV, my personal favorite from this album
I was waiting for this, angra is one of my favorite bands
