- It's been awhile since we last tackled the midsole swap project. We're finally getting around to it and so we decided to give you a tutorial on something simple.
Items:
Sewing awl
Embroidery floss
Beeswax
In this episode, we finally get back to the Air Jordan 4 Midsole Swap Project. We know its been a few months since we last tackled this project. However, we're finally getting back into the groove and we'll soon be completing it. The purpose of this video is to show you how to restitch the toecap on the Air Jordan 4. Honestly, it isn't difficult to do, you just need the right tools to accomplish this.
The main tool you need is a sewing awl. Yes, you're going to get your Martha Stewart skills on. You can easily find a sewing awl on eBay, Amazon.com, and arts & crafts stores. Just do a quick search online. In addition to the sewing awl, you will need, hopefully, the original thread that was on the recipient pair. If not, you can find some embroidery floss at an art & craft store. The last thing you will need is beeswax. No, not that stuff in your ears. The beeswax is needed to strengthen the thread while restitching. If you don't use it, you risk clumping and damaging the thread.
You start by running the main thread, that will appear on the outside, through the actual needed of the sewing awl. You insert it about 2 inches through. Then, starting on one end of the toecap, you push in through the thread hole. Afterwards, you want to pull that 2 inches of thread inside the toecap, while pulling the sewing awl back out to the right. Next, move on to the next hole. As you insert the needle into the next hole, a loop will form. At this point, you will need the other string. This string will be inserted through the top of the loop.
After you have placed the second string through the loop, pull the sewing awl back out with the same motion. The inside string should be secured. Continue the process to each hole and continually placing the internal thread through the top loop. Finally you get to the last hole.
When you reach the last whole, you will insert the sewing all, but at this point, you will pull whatever remaining slack you have into the inside of the shoe.
This process is best watched then read. I tried my best. I know some of you might be wondering, how do I restitch the sole back to the upper. You will use the same process, but it will be challenging. First of all, you can't see very well inside the shoe. Plus, you have to align the holes on two different parts. Hopefully, they line up. We will try to show this process when we near the completing of our project.
Stay tuned for that.
Just a suggestion, you may want to use a longer string for the outside string. Don't use the old toecap string unless it's to put the string in the loop. since you can't see what you're doing inside the shoe, you will definitely want to use a longer string to make the loop long enough for you to see it and place the string through the loop. I'm actually in the process of restitching my 99' Metallics right now and I'm running short on the Primary string.
This guy was born in a sweatshop..... keep up the vids
Woow
best videos on youtube easy, i watch every show 3 times
eagerly anticipating the video on how to paint you sneaks
keep up the good work.
thanks for the video, good luck on stitching to the uppers. looks like it's going to be a pain in the ass.
@SoBeasti you can pull the shoe apart without undoing the stitching, saw it on another midsole swap video on here somewhere
great video, may ur skill always grow to where u want it to be, peace and love, A.i
I read the about us section on your main website. show us how to re stitch the upper section of the shoe. I've been looking all over you too and the internet on directions of how to take a shoe apart and put it back together but cant find none
i currently have taken the soles off my white cement 3s and is restiching really needed to be done. i would of thought that glue would be able to hold up
U guys rock. I want to do a midsole swap for my og olive 9s but I'm still hunting for their replacement
i feel like you guys should do restorations for people for money, i'm sure a lot of people will trust you since you are well known on solecollector
Great vid,i have a question for you,i have some airforce ones that's like 10 years old and the sole lost it's sturdyness,is it possible to put a new sole on them, thanks in advance
Hey man just wanted to drop by and say I actually needed this. I'm in the middle of swapping my White Cement 4s and wanted to say thanks so much for doing this video. It's actually helping, beyond just for entertainment haha. I have my outsole, midsole, and uppers in 3 separate parts right now. Would you recommend I glue the parts together first? Then stitch the very last?
Good tutorial
You are a very peacefull guy.
Meanwhile... You always see Sneakgeekz very extremely hyped-up with each sneaker he pickup.
Talk about engineering a sneaker lol great vid
Nice video and nice beat!!. let me know where you guys get them from, so I can listen to them when i do my restore projects!!!!!!!
when you beeswax it is the thread going to glide on top of the wax or actualy kinda cut into it
@8SOUNDFX8 I think I have a playlist, but I will keep that in mind. Thanks! - the camera guy
Once you do this process do you have to stitch it to the upper, or can you just glue it on?
can you do this with the upper still attached ?
Man must be very difficult cause to reach the toe and everything you can't see it at all and you have very limited space. I can't wait for a repaint vid cause I might pick up a pair of DS BC 01 3s that needs some love.
nice vid ... thx
I placed my order and sent money to paypal for the Sauce, how long should I expect to receive it? Thanks
Thank You very Much Bro...!!!
if you don't have the original thread. you can use paracord guts.. super strong ! did it on some af1 ..
+Tom Rampino my first was a disaster. but the 2nd ones were better. it is a bit difficult before and after with the thread tho
where can i buy this paracord guts?
Is this the same for sole swapping an Air Force 1???
i have a question on fixining my 2004 AIR JORDAN 2. midsole is crunchy and breaking apart. what do i do????
would this work with jordan 1s?? and i want to take the sole from ajko 1s and put it on bred 1s, same sole right?
how do stitch the toe cap once the shoe has been glued to the midsole?
Amazing!
i didn't know this was martha stewarts channel
how much would you charge to sole swap a pair of bred 1s?
Can you guys please open up a restoration website. You guys make it look to easy lol
when are you guys gonna make the tutorial on how to restitch the upper part of the shoe to the lower?
its been 2 years com'n with the
video
id imagine its the same process but with the actual shoe
It is. I uploaded a video on my channel on how to do it
Idk if anyone has asked this but where do you get you’re soles ??
i have white thread looking substance on top of my Toros. a friend told me that was the threading separating. how do you restore that
@FatManZ23 Try it out, let us know how it goes. I asked my brother the same thing, but I think the sewing awl gives you better control. - the camera guy
Hey boss can u help out with a video or some tips on how to thread retro11 .how is that done.just do it like regular sewing?
How Long Will This Restitching Take?
I have a question if your sneakers are made of nubuck material what is the best glue to use to glue the rubber sole back to the nubuck sneaker that allows flex but still has that ultimate bond like the factory glue???
I think an adhesive called "Barge" would be perfect. other than that, Shoe Goo would probably work fine.
Do you have a video of stitching the sole to the shoe ??????
You glue it to the shoe you don't stich it man he has another vid about glueing it though.
Yo bro this is far the best to use to fix solos and more > my uncle uses it and he does it for a living >> use this ( Shoe Goo Footwear Adhesive ) and it is far cheaper then the stuff your using
@Anzikidd If you have the technique down, it shouldn't take more than 5 minutes. But it will take longer when you're actually reattaching it to the upper. - the camera guy
Can someone please tell me the right string to use????? Size and all...... Im a rookie
I dont why you used 2 different colors? Because on the Awl you can do it all with the one thread and not have your string twisting up and stuff. Unless there is a reason the inside thread has to be black but you wouldnt think no one would see the black thead any way
can someone please tell me how to stitch the toe cap and the midsole .
good shit guys
Thankyouuuu
shouldnt this be done when the upper is on top?
This is the hard part of midsole swaps
@grantfaith We appreciate the thought. Maybe we'll do something like that one day. - the camera guy
For my personal pairs I follow this process to fake the stitching. No point fully restitching if it isn't for a client after all. That way when it separates, it's easy to just apply some acetone and dremel down the toe cap a bit for a partial reglue, without having to cut and restitch
uploaded on my birthday
nuffen but respect!!
How do you guys figure out how to do this?? :O
What’s up dude I was just wondering how much you charge for a Jordan 1 sole swap?
What guage and size thread??
@UtubeDominator03 lol, thanks man.
great work bro
Great!!
please tell me someone knows how to stitch the sole back on to the leather someone please tell me im stuck

@RandFproductions lol, yup. - the camera guy

Hey My Elphant Print Stiching Is Starting To Come Off On My 3's , You Should Do A Video On The Restiching Process ?
Does this stitching process work on reto 1 breds?? And how would you separate the soles?
do u have ure own store where u do this stuff at?
Bow string wax would work much better than bee wax since it's made to prevent fraying and tear
How the hell do you do this inside the shoe?! 0_0
How the hell am I supposed to do all that inside the shoe??
Thats what im saying
ShawnTheLepracon lol
How money
Great thanks
@WoogieSHATonU It'll be challenging. - the camera guy
@MANTRIS101 thanks man. - the camera guy
:D amazing!
both of them have jobs, it would take long for them to do the restoration if they did do it
You should try to open Up a store Or something.... You really know how to Fix shoes .. lol
@MJToughtMeHowToFly Thanks. - the camera guy
@bobthej23 I don't think Nike would want us restoring shoes...they'd probably be better off everyone buying new shoes from them :P - the camera guy
@egomez333 thanks!
They do it for money, well not at first, but they get money from youtube adds.
you guys should go work for NIKE >.
Xin giá sp
2018!!!!
sorry clearly I didn't listen to the last 25 seconds of the vid before posting
THANK YOU! (",)
"the black 4s"
Why waste time and just buy another pair. This is too much for a pair of shoes, understand the logic but if it comes to this I rather buy them again or something else
He said black 4's lmao
