    True, the cost is high to change, and you have to wait till the charger is open, and the car won't go that far without a charge, cold weather they won't start, and if the battery blows up, more than likely, you or your family is more likely will get killed, stay safe don't buy one or get rid of the one you do have. Common sense again.

      What about if we get into some kind of war and they want to stop you from running they just shut all the power off on the cars and shut down the charging areas and then everyone is a sitting duck

    The Gov't should be getting a refund for all of the money that hasn't been used to build charging stations. If a business pays $1 million dollars, I guarantee if they do not get what they paid for, they will sue the other party that did not deliver for the value of the shortfall...I guess that logic doesn't matter when it's the Gov't spending tax dollars.

    Isn’t coal used to produce the electricity that the chargers provide? If so, how is that a source of green energy? I also read that the charging stations are being vandalized by metal collectors because they contain copper.

  • @rybec

    I did the math earlier today. A certain "expert" claimed in Congress that EV motors are 90% efficient (it turns out this is peak measured lab efficiency under optimal load with optimal power input, and _real world_ efficiencies are more like 70%, maybe as high as 75% with regenerative breaking). So as I do, I decided to look up numbers and do the math. If you track energy efficiency at each transition step from coal up to the EV, you get a net efficiency of 13.125%, assuming all elements are state-of-the-art and operating under optimal conditions. (That's just over half of the 25% minimum efficiency of gasoline engines.) When you take into account that most of our electrical infrastructure is 50 to 100 years old, and _not_ state-of-the-art, estimated net efficiency from coal to EV is less than 5%, and that ignores transmission losses, because those vary too much with distance from the power plant to the charging station to include in the calculation in any meaningful way.
    So currently, according to EV company promoters numbers of EV motor efficiency, in the _best case_ EVs are barely more than half as efficient as the worst gasoline cars (a third the efficiency of the most efficient gasoline car engines, according to the same "expert's" claim on gasoline efficiency). In actual reality, they are probably more like a fifth to an eighth as efficient as gasoline.
    By my math, we would be better off updating coal power infrastructure, which would increase efficiency by between 50% and 66% (meaning reducing emissions by that _and_ reducing _price_ by that) than we are trying to replace much more efficient gasoline vehicles with EVs. And at least that way we could also more than double EV efficiency from less than 5% to around 13%.
    (Yes, "green" energy does factor in here, but the difference is negligible with the current amount of "green" energy production we have. Also, current estimates suggest that in terms of emissions, green energy isn't significantly better than coal, due to emissions during manufacturing solar panels, wind turbines, and such. So green energy actually makes _cost_ efficiency worse, because it is more expensive, and it doesn't significantly improve emissions efficiency, leaving EVs 5 to 8 times worse or _maybe_ more like 4 to 7 times worse, which is a little better but still a lot worse than gasoline.

  • @user-kl4vd4gg3u
    @user-kl4vd4gg3u หลายเดือนก่อน

    Let the market sort it out, that is what will determine if EV's improve and succeed or fail. Do not force ppl via legislation, that's akin to totalitarianism. EV's are more likely to become safer with more range and cheaper if govt just stays the Eff out of it.
