If you had an entire library of Steam titles or Game Pass, you would only look at scores 6 or below if you were a franchise fan or anticipating a unique title. Everything else is a fight between 7 through 10. In other words, there are so many choices, that people right off great games all the time when they shouldn't and that's why reviewers use 7 as the cutoff. A shame since so many games are overlooked that way.
AI in 4x civ-like games is actually EXTREMELY tricky, as this genre is all about long term planning and disturbing or surpassing everyone else's long term plan. Amplitude games all are MUCH better in having a more exciting mid-game (where you do not just go through the motions for 30+ turns, but constantly make significant tricky decisions), not by rubber banding the AI, but by having a free(r) market and the inflience-resource, which all boils down to a more robust trade+diplomacy aspect.

Stelaris is incredible if youre a sci fi fan. It has a fairly steep learning curve, but everytime you play you learn more. The game lets you learn at your own pace.

for a longer neolythic game, play the Civilization4 mod [cavemen to cosmos]. it is more a super-compulation-mod, and it sure has some sillier aspects (mostly in the form of bear-cavalry and other creative mounts).
Civ 4, Civ 5, and Civ 6 didn't tackle climate change either, until the 2nd Expansion of Civ 6. So fairly hypocritical to knock the game for that, and then claim you'd rather play those games.
Look, it is a great game, but has a long road ahead. It took the CIV franchise how long to get where they are? It is awesome, that the rts genre is starting to get the attention it deserves, so please do not be overly critical people! We need constructive criticism so more come and give us better toys to play with!
The difficulty affect the enemy AI so much, if you want a perfect AI who doesn't want to recklessly do an offensive movement and hold strong position in battle, try increasing the difficulty, even in the open and close beta it's always like that, you'll be surprised how different the game by just increasing the difficulty of the AI

it makes sense that there are Americas tribes founding Washington since the mayflower founders came in 1620. But the Chinese one does not makes sense since they were there since BC era, for 3,500 years (to 5,000) of history.
That is not just a random Chinese bureaucracy, if IGN study history properly, the guy is Zheng Ho, he is one of the most famous explorers, sail to Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia way earlier than Spanish, British or other countries

Fun game! Would like to see a civ game that's more simulation than war game, so you can see why in the real world some cultures (ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, India, and China) got a head start thousands of years ago, but Western Europe's tech & science growth engine went off the charts by the 1800s.
Kind of glad it isn't amazing out of the box. That gives me more time to continue with my non-stop love affair with Crusader Kings 3 before having to sink a massive amount of time into another strategy game. Here's hoping some balance patches and DLC will make it as amazing as it looks.
Uuh, one of my games ended 20-30 turns early because of pollution (because an AI was crazy polluting). The fact that there was nothing much to do to stop them except eradicating them… really disappointing (pollution just exploded really quick, and just replanting a crap ton of trees in my outposts, using my overflowing influence, was useless).
Seems to me that is basically the same game as Civ except you can win the can through a greater variety of ways because the unique traits of your civilization vary through the ages then being set out from the beginning

The game has less AAA polish than Civ 6 had at launch. For example the zoom out maps and the leader models look poor.

CIV6 is so damn boring at this point, only interesting thing in those games is the early game. Humankind seems to be very refreshing experience.
