The BEST pets... whata great species of snake.. colors and morphs for everyone.. variable sizes.. easy to keep and very rewarding to tame down.
Totally agree!
You picked a great guy to talk about carpets! Clay is a great guy
So great he can't even give his snakes a real branch or plant? Not buying it, sorry.
me to i have a carpet python she or he loves to climb then spreads out on it after her meal they love that thats what they do in the wild she or he loves to coil up on it as well@@jackiedoesntcare
i have branches every were and they look great spread out on them you get the real impact from them as in the wild
and she loves to soak in her water as ell
The one of most overlooked “carpets” now separate species is Morelia Bredli. They are even less popular in hobby but they are bulletproof as they can tolerate huge temp swings and being from mostly arid area of central Australia and as adults they are puppy dogs. Just babies has a bit more of a temper but calm down nicely with age❤
Had a few just as a pets and they are an awsome animals to be around
The only downside is just a verry few morphs. But I’m more of a locality/natural looks guy so no problem for me
Bredlis are awesome. Irian Jaya locality are also really similar, both in appearance and in hardiness.
The answer is YES! Carpets are amazing once you accept that some of them may start out a bit nippy. A Jungle was my first Python was payment working for my sister's pet shop when I was 16 and that was 24 years ago. Now the more accurate reason behind it being a grate pet is most due to the fact they are more on the arboreal side of snake world. If you want to hold your snake for a while these guys are basically made for it and with age they calm down and will just chill out with you. Another reason if you are keeping them as pet only with no interest in breeding, they are perfectly happy without any sort of heat cycling. Last little thing about them is the shear diversity in beauty they are found in even without morphs.
I got a 9fter that was given to me
@@L.V.exoticpets That's a good size. 9ft is about as big as youd want for 1 person to handle without backup on a regular basis. My 7 year old Carpet python is only 6ft at most. He's an Irian Jaya Carpet though, which are the smallest. Ive got a 15 month old african rock python thats already 10ft though lol. Shes gonna be HUGE. At this rate she will eventually be bigger than even my burmese or reticulated pythons.
Personally I dislike barren, sterile-looking enclosures and might just be my brain humanizing the snakes too much but really we don't know what they are thinking. But even though there isn't enough branches, leaves and colour for my liking I still applaud this person for keeping his collection in a proper sized enclosure with uv, heat, and different hide and perch options instead of rack systems.
yes the minimum requierement is there ... but it feel they are not considered as living being , just money making , breeding and genetics ...
Agreed, this is also why I'm generally against rack systems as well.
Yes If I had snakes I would want their enclosures to look like their natural habitats. I’m not a fan of sterile looking enclosures either. This guy definitely did a good job giving them the lights, hides n the shelf but still I’d prefer natural habitats or as close to it as I could get it for the animal.
@@justdoinit2378Yeah, it's slightly above minimum, which for someone who breeds more than 1 or 2 clutches a year is understandable
They do like having a decent amount of mental stimulation, but you'll come to find that snakes (along with most reptiles) really don't care how pretty or naturalistic their enclosure is as long as they feel safe and secure in it and are having all their needs met.
Rack systems are best used with larger collections since having a bunch of separate enclosures is just not feasible anymore. Sometimes it can even make them feel pretty safe and secure since it mimics hiding in a cave or abandoned/recently taken-over burrow (which is what most snakes do for 90% of their lives since they're a camper build specialized for ambushing), provided it's not too small and barren and still allows for a temperature gradient.
Carpets are one of my favorite snake species. We love out female Jungle! Such a joy to watch and interact with. Great video!!!
that’s my next one!!!
I think perhaps using "morelia" species may be a bit of a better description for this.
While the video touched on Jungles and Diamonds, theres also Coastals, Darwins, Murray Darlings, South West and Bredli; all lumped as carpet pythons, but each living in different locations in Australia
I picked up a jungle from Clay a couple months ago, healthy good looking girl that should be in some fresh skin in the next couple days 👍
Carpet pythons are absolutely amazing i have so many and love them all they are so misunderstood
I keep and breed carpets as well and I think they make great pets! Some as hatchlings may be a little feisty but with work and time they come out of that and are the coolest snake that I've bred and kept. Truly amazing and their beauty is unmatched in my opinion. Keep up the great content Dav.
Cool, what kind of enclosures do you keep them in? Do you have a TH-cam channel?
Just got back from my local expo, only one carpet python in the entire building lol She was very pretty
Great video 🎉
Carpets are the best pet snakes 🐍 , perfect size , semi arboreal, usually out on display, super awesome !
Carpet pythons are so underrated. I have a 9 year old male at home who is around 6ft give or take a couple of inches. Hes a Papuan locality. They called them "Irian Jaya" or "IJ" carpet pythons back when i got mine. They are my favorite. I love how their olive coloring looks in the sun. They also seem to be more irridescent than most carpet pythons even though they arent as brightly colored.
What beautiful snakes - absolutely love the sky hides!
I use them for my superdwarf retics they love them
Carpet pythons are stunning and I wish I could get one but not enough money or room. Great vlog today. Have an amazing weekend dāv
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed!
Haven't even finished the video yet and hell yes they are lol
It was interesting how his enclosures went from minimalistic to Bio Active. Very clean and his animals are Beautimous. Thanks for taking us along!
Like all snakes one has to be ready for individual personalities, I've heard some stories about certain carpets being monsters...but the majority definitely are calm. Have to really be careful about feeding though; the one I have right now grew well beyond the size her subspecies is supposed to reach and then ended up very fat because she was given basically all the extra food where she used to live, now she only gets fed every 3-5 weeks and fairly small meals and even 2 1/2 years later we're still working on getting her figure back again.
I'd also strongly recommend sticking to known healthy lines of animals; could never recommend a jaguar because I just don't see it being responsible to perpetuate a line with neurological troubles tied right to the gene.
Is she an Irian Jaya by chance? Because even though IJ's are smaller carpet pythons, they are actually meant to be somewhat thicker bodied compared to other carpet pythons. My 7 year old and 6ft long male is almost as thick as a 6ft burm would be. But he has absolutely no folds in his skin, or fat rolls, even when hes in a tight coil. Its just the way they are built.
Thanks for this Dav! Carpets are stunning and make excellent pets. Morelia on the whole truly has the most beautiful and manageable python species within. Thanks for promoting an often overlooked staple of the hobby.
Great timing on this video, I happened to visit DFW Reptarium today for the first time and they have a gorgeous juvenile. Definitely very interested in picking one of these up at at some point. Thank you for your excellent content Dav.
That was great! Thank you.
Carpets are the best kept secret of the hobby. I truly believe they are one of the best snakes you can keep. More interactive but at a manageable size. Amazing amazing animals
I agree! Ive had my Male Irian Jaya Carpet for 7 years or so and hes one of my favorites. They are just more interactive and interesting than many of the more popular choices IMO. They tend to be the perfect size snake too. Big enough, but ussually not too big for one person unless you are talking about oversized coastals.
Yes carpet pythons are crazy underrated amazing animals!
Nice video!!!i got one at Tinley a couple weeks ago.. it was great seeing you also!!!
beautys❤ .think it be nice if keeper added some branches , fake plants .ro give enclosure more natural habitat look .
Tampa, Florida? Hey that’s my neck of the woods. I just missed you though.
I used to have a Irian Jaya Carpet Python about 20 years ago. Was like keeping a smaller Red Tailed Boa. So chill. I miss that snake.
Immaculate facility, very organized... and beautiful pythons.
It's easy to keep organized when you give your snakes the absolute bare minimum
not a branch insight they are clever snake they need mental stimulating i move my branches around once a week to change her surrounding and she goes nuts its great to watch plus a water tub they love to soak as well and i have hides were she goes after a meal for couple of days
I have to hell yeah..i love my carpets,,1of my favorite snakes to work with
Hi Dav I really enjoyed this video. I did not know much information about the carprt, and jungle, and diamond puhons. They are all so beautiful. He takes such excellent care of his pythons. Really nice feature to have an upper hide for hrm. His enclosures are so nice. It is fantastic that he shares his knowledge about their care, and feeding. Thanks for sharing your trip to Tampa Snakes. Love all of you adventures.❤ Reptiles. Comfy from Glorida
Those enclosures look sad. I wouldn’t want to spend my entire life in a white room with just a bed and the Bare Necessities
They're beautiful.
Got a central carpet a couple of months ago and couldn't be happier. After years with BPs I've gotten into more active and challenging snakes that are very interesting watch. I enjoy larger animals like boas and my retic so the carpet seemed like a good fit and I like spicy animals. Colubrids are an entertaining watch as well so maybe a cribo for the next family member.
Very cool. I too was under the impression that Diamonds we pretty chill and docile, and that jungles were more likely to give or the person next to you a jab. 🤷♂️
I keep Zebra Jungle Carpet. Absolutely amazing and interesting snakes. He is a bit nippy though while inside enclosure, But once i get him out he behaves well. Never seen a more aggressive feeder!
Awesome video love his vig encloseures where did he get and that bio display tank would be great for mangroves
Carpet pythons are so beautiful species and I love them💛🖤 A lady who adopted a carpet python from Japan Snake Center which is the only one facility that making antivenom (I guess), her carpet python was so beautiful and basically docile but sometimes he/she has a temperament😅 But I know they can be great starter pet snakes!
other than boas, carpet pythons are probably my favorite snake
What's better about boas?
@@tristanfaint6906 it’s really just a preference thing
@@percythecryptid admit boas are just more docile.. lol
@@tristanfaint6906 my brother in christ, it is not that deep. i just personally find boas cooler. i’d still like to have both a boa and a carpet one day.
I have a female jungle jag, she's between 2 and 3 I think and shows no wobble issues.
I had four carpet pythons had them in large arboreal vivas with branches and live plants bio active and they would spent all day out on branches, they are great snakes one of my favourites they aren’t snappy at all very underrated snake
Cool video.
Thank you for spot lighting the best snake species on the planet!...All the best!
This is the first I've seen without a substrate material, or branches... Are carpet pythons different in their preferences or is it just a handler preference?
Carpet pythons are cool, I like that they are aboreal and climb trees and there patterns are like a carpet so soft yet crisp compared to other pythons. A flavor of color patterns on carpet pythons that make them unique in their own way.
Great Show ,,,,, Much appreiated '
I loved this video. Beautiful carpets!
Very beautiful snakes
Just got a jungle jaya at an expo this weekend she's amazing!
Ive given one of my boas UVB and some not. Other than preventing mold on some types of wood climbs i have not seen much difference, tho obviously i dont have the ability to do in depth study or analysis of each of my boas, and it may be quite different with Carpets or other species too. Its an interesting discussion, especially since some whole prey reptiles still need it which is interesting tho i guess snakes are of a very different evolutionary clade as Clint would say haha.
Those plain white enclosures look so sad carpets climb a lot and should have branches to climb and not just a little platform..
Sterile or easy to keep clean enclosures are more important for a breeder. Having a bunch of big pretty cages with branches that mold is nice until something doesn't get cleaned right and they get an RI
@@rkfan101 yeah doesn't change the fact it's sad to see the animals in a bland empty enclosure I don't agree with breeders having animals like this or in racks as they're animals not collectables
@@lukebretherton1460ok.
@@lukebretherton1460 then don't buy snakes. Having no demand would prevent what you don't like.
@@rkfan101 the shop I bought my snakes from had very good size enclosures with a lot inside the tanks...
i read somewhere that the corkscrewing in spider balls was an inner ear deformity. either way its sad though.
Hi Dav living in Australia obviously I’m a bit more limited on the species I can keep. So, I’m biased lol, I have some beautiful carpets but I don’t have any jags, just pure strain locals. Beautiful snakes cheers mate
What size are those enclosures? I currently have 10 carpets that’s why I’m asking lol
Love your channel and the way you help us see things from the animals' point of view and natural environment. I just recently tried to purchase a jungle jag from Gopheryourpets Joseph Champlin in Houston, but he took my money kept promising to send it but never did deliver. I'm still in the market for a Carpet python and am out $277.00. I wish there were something I could do, I'm just afraid he's ripping other people off as well. Can you recommend a trustworthy carpet python breeder?
Diamonds are the best snake hands down. Especially for a colubrid person. 😉
the spider wobble is not neuro. its an inner ear thing. this was proven last year i think.
Hope you are able to read it
It's an ear thing, but that affects your balance - that's why humans who have concussions have trouble walking...
@@nunyadambusiness6902 Not ear. Inner ear. inner ear problems will affect balance
Yes they do :)
You have diamond jungle jags for sale?
So they don't brumate.... like when some people breed
Where these 4x2x2 enclosures?
Carpet's are fun
Still learning!
#RattleOn
days like today I am jealous of Noah and his ark. Homie got 2 of every single animal. I want a couple carpet pythons, and two of every other animal.
This is definitely a snake on my bucket list. I know they have a reputation of being a little cantankerous, but I think that’s mostly due to them not being worked with a lot. It’s not a ball python that comes out of the egg puppy dog tame
Just remember that bad reputations with snakes only come from people who dont know what the hell they are doing. Theres no such thing as an aggresive or mean snake. They arent even capable of that. If a snake is being defensive its simply scared. Thats all it is. Baby carpets are nippy about 70% of the time, because atleast 70% of them are simply naturally afraid of people as hatchlings. As they should be. Most of the snakes i keep have terrible reputations, yet NOTHING in my collection has ever bitten me in 28+ years of keeping various python species. I only get bit if im herping or handling someone elses collection. I keep all the stuff everyone says is aggresive, none of it actually is. I keep things like blood pythons, green tree pythons, reticulated pythons, african rock pythons, carpet pythons, etc, all of which have "bad reps", yet none of them have ever tagged me. My snakes are all well socialized little angels that even a child could handle. I can take my 10ft long, 15 month old African rock python out without ever using a hook. Shes my sweetest snake, yet everyone acts like they are the meanest snakes in the world. Its ridiculous.
There was a sub adult Leucistic here in Aus I beleive.
Damn I love this channel
Why is the blood python not a popular snake in the hobby? I don’t see anyone keeping them. What is the reason for this?
Why the Diamonds have very nice bio enclosure and the Carpets don’t ?
Neo🤯
Carpet Pythons are amazing pet snakes!
I always feel bad for snakes in this situation such bad un enriching enclosures 😕imo if u don’t have the time to clean or do bio u don’t need as many animals as u have it really wouldn’t be much hassle to just anchor some branches etc in at the very least I see others have some enrichment to which is confusing why not all of them have it
I definitely do like some of his info tho especially not power feeding!!!
ten years old never seen a branch not for me
he has the snake in that enclosure because that's the bare minimum for a snake like that. so sad the snakes have to enhabit it in rotaion...
love to see them not crammed into racks
Snakes on paper 🥲
I’ve considered it. FWC sucks!
Dimonds or carpets 🤷 gargoyle or Crested 😂
Is it possible to breed these with ball pythons for an insane hybrid animal?
Are they dangerous to hold? Why don't they touch the snakes. I say bad pets.
💜💚💚💚💜
Dav buy me a diamond python please
beautiful collection , but yet , the enclosures are so sad , like a lab , missing some enrichements and stimulation for the snakes . i made bunch of experiements with different species and type of enclosures , and i dont humanised reptiles , i really think they are underestimated and need more stimulation and things to do inaide the enclosure .
this facilities look like just a factory for make money with bredding . no bad intention from me or free trashing , its just my personal feeling about it.
I have a jaguar carpet. She’s cool but, a”good pet”? Naw people get a dog. My beagle is way cooler than this snake😂
Yeah these are not good enclosures. I get they are easy and manageable but this is not ideal. You should not encourage this guy and his keeping habits. I wouldn’t say it’s abuse but it’s not what they should have to feel secure.
I’d love a reboot if done right. Technology has come such a long way, seeing more of Vader like in rouge one would be amazing!!!!!!
I almost completely disagree with how he keeps jungles. They are semi-arboreal and should be kept as such. We need to move far far away from tiny minimum size recommendations and be honest about what these creatures are and how they should be kept. Personally, I’d say a single adult should have a minimum of 4 ft long 2 ft deep and 4 ft tall with lots of branches for climbing and ambushing prey.
In my experience you can never really fully trust a carpet. I've had many over the years of many species and just when I thought they were tame I would get a nasty bite.
Whats the pain like from a carpet python bite?
I had an adult jungle that would never eat rats so I used to have to get guinea pigs. I wish id thought of birds like quails or chicken
