Love it pal. Loads of places like this here in Scotland. The real bonus for me is they’re pretty much ignored in favour of the lochs(lakes) and the salmon rivers. You can fish these streams all season and never see another angler. 👍🤘
I agree on the length /strength of the rod. I fish the similar waters in north of Sweden. You may need to keep the line high and long in the air before dropping it. Sometimes make longer casts to not spook the fish.
GF and I have been watching your entertaining video's for a long time now. We are currently sitting on the couch and she asked me to find out if you have ever run into a rattlesnake. The reason for the question, we vacationed in Utah and I took her fly fishing the top Utah streams/rivers. She caught a lot of beautiful fish, but her vacation ran into a snag. While she was reaching for her two fly rods, that she placed against a sign near the river, she encountered the unmistakable noise of a rattlesnake letting her know that she was too close. Fortunately, the snake was giving one of those polite notice of "Just letting you know I'm hear" rattle and the snake went on its marry way without major incident. Unfortunately, this sent her to the truck for the rest of our fly fishing trip.
I have not… but I am FOREVER anticipating the experience.. those are usually at the top of my “don’t wanna run into” list.. Those are the super close calls that could have been bad.. glad y’all are okay!
This looks so much fun! I'd like to plan my own trip like this, but I don't know where to start. How do you find such a beautiful spot like this to camp?
Very informative video. Reinforce s what my routine on what I prepare before going out on and eastern stream. Load up one fly box with a variety of dries, nymphs and streamers instead of carrying multiple boxes. Also bring a 3 wt. For dries and my 9' 5 wt. For streamers and nymphs. Got that from your previous videos in the driftless.
Love the Notre Dame shirt! Makes me proud there’s another Irish loving flyfisherman! Great videos - leave some in the water for us guys who can’t go all the time.
Hey Mike, love your videos; and information/content. Just getting suites up to do overnight hiking for trout. Would love to see your full backpack equipment list…thx
Very informative video - these glacial valleys are something you don't see in the Southern Appalachians, which is my "base" for fly fishing....far rougher, steeper water. I was out in Colorado a few weeks ago, and the stream I caught a bunch of Rios out of was a true meadow brook - averaging only 2ft in width, surrounded by grass. The challenge is to get the fly to the water, and the solution, at least for me, is Tenkara. A lot of times, I wasn't even casting - I was standing well back from the bank and, using the 11ft of length on the rod, just dropping the fly in where I wanted it. BTW - if you want to fish a similar stream/valley in that area, without having to cross the Rio Grande via the streambed, check out the Weminuche Trail - it's in the campground by the dam for the Rio Grande Reservoir. It's steep in the beginning, but it flattens out to a valley just like the one for Ute Creek.
Mike, You said you caught most of the fish on an Ant. Is that just the name of the fly even thought it looks nothing like an ant? After you said ant, you showed what looked like a dry fly hopper/something pattern. Thanks!
That’s the dream man!!
It was so amazing!
I love your energy bro
Thank you!!
Interesting observations.

That sounds amazing! Those kind of places are my kind of party. I’d love to see what they have to offer one of these days!
@@FLYALLSZN you ever make it over give me a shout.

A 3&5 is a great combo! Can never argue with that!

I might have to do one at the end of the season! I am still trying to dial in my kit!
Another winner Mike - well done and keep coming out with these info / how to’s along with your other travel / adventure vids 👏🤙
I’m glad folks are digging on this different format!! It’s hard to put together everything I wanna say/ show in just one vid these days 😅
Gosh these are fantastic videos my guy, hope the algorithm keeps showing your content to new people because it is 🔥🔥🐟🎣
That would be cool! But as long as it could possibly help one person I’m more than fine with that

Hell yeah Ian!! Thank you so much! That’s some good info 💪🏼
They're crawling.

Living it up in the driftless! Hope to get out to one of these alpine streams one day though… great video as usual!
Thank you so much Miles!! You gotta! Summer is the perfect time!

Now you might actually have a river to throw the spay rod
Rio in the fall 👀
Alright, what is your skin routine? My goodness.
LOL!! Coconut oil haha
crispy
This sure beats watching all the "whack 'em and stack 'em" outdoor channels on television!
Those shows certainly seem to have a shelf life… I’m glad you like what I’m cookin up though!! Thank you for the support!
