    Thank you for mentioning the second part of that verse which everyone always forgets, WHY Hashem wanted to send us away from Egypt, to serve him! I try and tell people this all the time, sadly, many would prefer the former interpretation and focus on the liberation aspect, even to this day...
    What did they write in Hatikva (this is one of the lines changed from Imber's original poem)
    להיות עם חופשי בארצינו
    To be a free people in our land.
    They desired freedom, but what's the undertext of being free, "chofshi" in Hebrew, is implying free from G-d, free from service. "In our land", with this statement they are recognizing G-d gave the land and there is some connection between the children of Israel and the land of Israel but they would prefer to be deniers of the truth and to run away from G-d Al-mighty and his Torah.
    This is one of two specific examples that illustrate everything that is wrong with the modern day state of Israel.

      Exactly! This is such a fundamental concept in Judaism and so frequently overlooked.
