- Georgetown Law Journal's Inaugural Author Lecture with Steven L. Schwarz "Systemic Risk"
Monday, 11/03/2008 03:30 PM (EST)
Donald Langevoort, Professor, Georgetown University Law Center
Steven L. Schwarcz, Professor, Duke Law School
Laura Ellen Kodres, Chief, Global Financial Stability Division, International Monetary Fund
Peter Roberson, Senior Policy Adviser, Committee on Financial Services, U.S. House of Representatives
Erik Sirri, Director, Division of Trading and Markets, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission
The panelists will discuss how systemic risk has affected this country's financial markets and what can be done to prevent it from causing a worldwide financial system collapse.
Schwarcz will present findings from his article, "Systemic Risk," which appears in the November 2008 issue of the Georgetown Law Journal.
I liked the international angle that Mr. Schwarz concluded about our own Federal Reserve and systemic risk. I was concerned that he thought banks have the power to allow less people to own homes. I also liked the rest of the panel. This included that systemic crises arise from sources other than banks alone. Insurance contracts on a bond also share worries.
