    Some people are commenting that they already sell them at the store but there's a satisfaction to using something that you made with your own hands. That's just my opinion

    • @lapislignum

      Cheers, I put this of for a while because I didn't have any flat wide enough, it's a good solution if you have time and pipe to spare and don't need the flat to be very flat!

    I gave this guy a thums up because we all start out this way. On a wheel there are bolt holes to use as referance points for the legs. Remember, center lines on the wheel and center lines on the pipes for easy set up. Also, once all legs are welded, a simple measurement from ground to highest point wiill give you your angle for all of them👍 love the video

    Really pleasing to watch your build, and the layout techniques you used. I have a 24 inch wheel I plan to make into a fire ring; perfect size for a patio fire pit with no other purpose than to just watch a fire burn in the evening. As some others have observed, there is much satisfaction to be derived from designing and building a project yourself. I often gain new ideas and construction skills just from watching what someone else has done. Your fire pit is well built and will last a lifetime plus. Good job. Regards - John

    • @lapislignum
      @lapislignum  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers John! I know the layout seems excessive to some people but it is the way I generally do things, usually it makes it easier. If you put a tray of sand and/or firebricks under the pit it should help your patio not catch on fire.

You could fix a grate to lay on top of it and cook on it with wood or charcoal when you get done cooking lay the grate to the side and you have a fire pit with a fire already going to sit around drink some cold beer and talk to your friends and family!! You done an amazing job you're truly blessed with a great talent! Thanks for sharing that with us keep up the good work and may God bless you and your family and friends!! • @lapislignum
      @lapislignum  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a good solution, I think I put bricks under the big hole a few times but the stud holes didn't let enough air in, leaving the big hole open let too much stuff fall through and not burn.

      on some grinders just holding the guard against the benchtop will work, on this grinder the arbor sticks out past the guard so it had to be screwed to the formply scrap, gives better stability too!

      @@lewandlo there's a welding scene? watch my rocket stove video if you want to see more questionable welding, I think I manage to do some bits better and some bits worse than in this video, need to do some drills when the weather is less flammable.

    Just a tip but it's one amp for every thousand of an inch. I personally like to use a couple extra amps 5 max depending on the base metal. In the video amps was way way short and you move way to fast.

      @@lapislignum You really need to practice getting the arc right. I agree with the comment about, turn it up a bit and try to watch the weld pool. Your welding needs work but that was 4 years ago so maybe you have improved. I liked your trick with the grinder to get the flat base of the legs.

    Welding on the legs was really bad. Using MMA Welding Vertical travelling up would have gave a weld to penetrate the joining metals, that down motion that you did left a light skin full of porosity.
    The job did turn out nice, try using MIG for that style of welding

    • @lapislignum
      @lapislignum  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not claiming to be a good welder but the legs have held on great, the grate has popped a few welds because they aren't great and it gets very hot there and expands and contracts a lot.
      I have a MIG but bought this inverter as I was sick of renting a gas bottle that I almost never used, have a roll of fluxcore wire but I don't like using it (my welds with fluxcore look even worse than my stick welds) and it's a (heavy) transformer machine so I can't be bothered lugging it out of where it lives.
      Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!

      No... I think I’ll take pipe, cut it into little pieces, instead finding some scrap plate. Then I will double check it on a CAD program. I think that’s more expensive in labor then 20 store bought fire pits.
