    +David Thorpe - once again, thank you very much for a very informative and very well organized review! I thought of purchasing the GM-5 a year ago when I was looking for a smaller camera as 2nd camera to my Olympus OM-D E-M1. Opted, however, for the Olympus PEN E-PL6 at only $299. Now tempted again by the GM-5 selling at only $485 here in US with the 12-32mm kit, I ordered it. To come tomorrow. Have my Olympus PEN E-PL6 all boxed and ready to sell.
    Your reviews really help me decide about equipment, David. Thank again!

    Mr Thorpe sir, I think you just cost me a few quid! Watching a gm5 on eBay with the following logic - have an EM5 and weather proof lenses for rainy hikes, never really replaced my beloved GF1/20 1.7 combo. I have a 14mm pancake and the one I’m watching has the 12-32, so it’s smaller than my GF1, has a EVF, basically same controls (which I love), a touch screen and the 16mp sensor that I find plenty good enough in the EM5. All’s I needed was a decent review and yours are the best around (my eyes don’t like test charts!). Thank you once again, and if I ever bump into you (I’ll be holding a red GM5), the beers are on me

      No, no dislike. A bit of good old English irony! I've used big, expensive top line cameras all my life but a little itsy bitsy camera like this and a couple if itsy bitsy lenses that I can hold in one hand and that can do most of what my big, expensive cameras could? It just ain't right.

    • @itcontractwork7095
      @itcontractwork7095 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      David Thorpe Thanks for explaining it. I own the GX7 already (and many others) and I'm not sure if I can justify this purchase as it seems like a GX7 in a smaller body (without image stabilisation). When checking the specs there doesn't seem much difference. Would love to have it though.

    • @DavidThorpeMFT
      @DavidThorpeMFT  9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      itcontractwork Also missing from the GM specs is 50mbps video which may or may not be important. Pound for pound (or whatever currency), the GX7 is much better value than the GM5 and given that it is hardly a big camera the GM5 really only makes sense if you must have the smallest form factor. But we're photographers - give me a camera, I'll find a use for it!

  • @DavidThorpeMFT
    @DavidThorpeMFT  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    This is a reply to R Hartmann - I cannot reply directly because there is no reply button. Regarding the image quality of the various bodies, there is nothing to choose between any of the newer models, Olympus or Panasonic. A lot of them have the same sensor in fact and a GX8 (if it happens) is unlikely to break any new ground in that respect. If you get on with the GM1, the 35-100 f4-5.6 zoom is a good match. The f2.8 version is a great lens but much, much bigger. The E-M10 sounds a good bet to me at a good price. Take a look at my review of the Olympus 40-150 to go with it, though I'd prefer the Panasonic optically myself. The in lens stabilization of the 35-100 f4 would be wasted but the E-M10 doesn't have Olympus's top line stabilization and you might find the lens's better. The f2.8 would go fine with the Olympus body but when you consider the price and size difference, you have to be sure you really want the extra speed to justify it.

    Hey David, so I notice you have never done a review on the GX850, or at least not one that I have found! I am loving the size and ease of the GX 850, in fact I’m loving everything about it except for the fact that you can’t truly shoot manually, there’s no full manual mode unless I’m doing something wrong! I’m thinking the GM5 might be everything I love about the GX850 plus the manual mode I wish it had...would that be a true statement! Thanks as always!

    Finally! I've been waiting for some reviews of this camera for weeks. I thought no one was buying it.
    I'm shooting with an EOS M and looking to move to MFT at some point. I thought it was going to be a GM1 at first but then saw the GM5.
    I love how small these cameras are... but am starting to think that maybe I should wait until they release the next version which will no doubt have 4K video as well as having more features of the bigger MFT cameras. Maybe the replacement to the GX7?
    As someone wanting to make the move to MFT I've found your channel to be super informative. Keep up the good work on reviews! I've subscribed and looking forward to new posts in the New Year. Season's greetings :)

    • @DavidThorpeMFT
      @DavidThorpeMFT  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ron Festejo It's great you find my stuff informative, that's my aim. As I understand it, the processing power required for 4K video generates too much heat for such a tiny camera body. There just isn't room for the heat sink required so it unlikely that anything in the GM line will have 4K. The LX100 must be about the minimum size for 4K.
      Incidentally, the heat problem is the reason that Olympus don't have great video and Panasonic don't have Olympus standard IBIS. You need a light sensor assembly for the best IBIS, a heavy sensor heat sink for high bitrate and 4K video.

    • @rfestejo
      @rfestejo 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      David Thorpe Yes, I had also heard that about heat and 4K video.
      So what, in your opinion, would be the best MFT camera to get that would have the best mix of size (pocketable) and features (4K video)?
      I'm thinking the replacement to the GX7 perhaps?
      I really like the features in the Panasonic range. So will probably want one. Oh... and I need a touch screen. Touch to focus has been a revelation :)

    • @DavidThorpeMFT
      @DavidThorpeMFT  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ron Festejo At the moment the only mix of pocketeable (just) and 4K is the LX100 but no touch screen and no interchangeable lenses. I don't have any more information than anyone else but I'd have thought the only likelihood would be a possible GX8. But that has the IBIS which may preclude 4K!
      It's that 4K which is the stumbling block. Other than that one of the the GMs or the GX7 would be your choice.

    • @rfestejo
      @rfestejo 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey David Thorpe ... thought I'd let you know that I've taken the plunge and have sold my Canon EOS-M and moving to MFT. I'm going to get the GM5 with its 12-32mm kit. I'm also getting the Olympus 17mm f1.8 - without a bloody lens hood >:(
      I'm willing to let go of 4K videos for the GM5's form factor. It's not like its under-spec'ed, eh... I got my money's worth from the EOS-M because it was with me all the time. I want the same for the GM5.
      Really looking forward to getting my hands on it. Anyway... just wanted to say thanks for your advice. Watching your videos have been great for seeing what it's like to go on the MFT journey. I look forward to future videos and hope that you don't convince me to buy too many things ;)
      Keep up the good work!

    • @DavidThorpeMFT
      @DavidThorpeMFT  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ron Festejo Thanks Ron! I'm sure you'll like the GM5. If you get the 17mm, there a nice hood with cut-out bits very cheap on eBay or Amazon. Now, about buying stuff, it's no problem because you can always blame it on me :-)

  • @fredio54

    The other part of the deal, and motivation for the deal with the Leica 15mm 1.7 being a side effect was, this! :-D Stoked. 99% sure it's an English one, but will check before paying. Once set, the language cannot be changed so JDM ones are not okay unless you are fluent in Japanese.

    @raksh9 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I love my GM1, and am a bit disappointed that I missed getting a GM5. The later cameras are bigger, and lack manual video mode, which reduces their functionality for my uses. I wish Panasonic would bring this line back; a fantasy setup would be a GM5 size body with the GH5S 10mp multi aspect ratio sensor, which would make this a tiny low light monster, and therefore make the slow kit lens much more usable.

    I noticed that you have improved the audio quality on your videos, thank you, I really appreciate your effort Mr. Thorpe :) . Love the detailed review, really helped me to understand the camera really well! One question, in your opinion will the 14-140mm lens feel okay with this camera? Or will it be too big for the GM5 to handle?

    • @DavidThorpeMFT
      @DavidThorpeMFT  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      bajigurwedangronde I'm so pleased that you've noticed the audio quality. I spent a long time mugging up on it, reading and watching TH-cam videos. I had tended to regard it as second string to the video but came to realize that that was wrong. The biggest thing was buying a decent mic and learning how to use it, plus eliminating echo and a bit of post processing. Complex but worth it!
      I've just been playing with the 14-140 on the GM5. It works perfectly in every way but overlaps the bottom plate of the camera few mm as do all the lenses not designed for the GMs. To be honest, it doesn't feel right to me and I'd rather use a smaller lens.

    • @ChrisWilliams-rc9ic
      @ChrisWilliams-rc9ic 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Funnily enough I've used the 14-140 on the GM1 a fair bit. That's mainly because I use the GM1 as a sort of 'stealth' camera at gigs I haven't got a pass for. DSLR style cameras are frequently banned, but of course the GM1 doesn't look anything other than the sort of modest compact they don't mind. The 14-140 I tend to put on after I've gained entrance! I've been very pleased with the results - it's a surprisingly good optic for a super-zoom and the range with IS and the relatively large sensor make for good images in poor light. It is bulky on the tiny camera of course, but I've found in an effective combination.

    • @DavidThorpeMFT
      @DavidThorpeMFT  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chris Williams Yes, handy to have a non- pro looking camera.. The 14-140 is one of my most used lenses. It feels a bit awkward on the GM to me but works as well on the GMs as any other MFT camera. And, as you say, the combo enables you to do things you otherwise couldn't. I _prefer_ the GM with smaller lenses but if there's a job to be done, what works is king.

    • @DavidThorpeMFT
      @DavidThorpeMFT  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chris Williams I'm just working on a short review of the 35-100. It's blindingly sharp and the stabilization is excellent too. It's hard to believe that such quality can come from such a small lens. Having said that, the 35-100 f2.8, is a full 2 stops faster at the 100mm which is big difference and it is, as you say, still a compact lens. That extra 40mm of the 14-140 is a big difference, though and I do like removing the need for lens changing. Especially for video.

  • @tipdrinker

    Took advantage of a big price drop on e-bay and ordered this on on Friday! Woo can't wait. No kit zoom but the 14mm f2.5 I have will essentially live on it. Going on holidays to Edinburgh in September and I'll have this the 14mm, oly 25mm 1.8 (my favourite lens), my 35mm cctv lens (PLEASE review this it costs about £20!) and 45mm stuffed in my jacket pocket. Liberation photography :-)

    • @DavidThorpeMFT
      @DavidThorpeMFT  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Liberation photgraphy - good phrase that, very apt. What is the CCTV lens?

    • @tipdrinker
      @tipdrinker 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's the fujian 35mm f1.7 c mount lens. It covers the 4/3 sensor. If you search eBay carefully you can find them with the adapter included. I was lucky to get on with a diopter for macro also!

    • @DavidThorpeMFT
      @DavidThorpeMFT  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** I'll take a look. It's easy to forget how versatile the MFT mount is because of its short flange to lens distance. You can make anything sit further away but closer is just about impossible.

    It's so sad that Panasonic is not continuing making really small, but capable m43 cameras... I guess they succumbed to the (false) "bigger is better" trend in everything (SUVs, Houses etc.). I'd love to own a GM5, but they're very difficult to find and very expensive second hand... :(

Looking forward to that arriving to see how that handles and how it fits into my panoply of gear. It really look pretty heavy on features whilst still being fairly modestly sized.
    I really have got to get around to selling some of my older gear, but the GM5 looks off the menu for now.

      Chris Williams That's a great price for a GX7. The refurbished often means a camera that someone has bought and then sent back because they changed their mind, I understand. I love the GX7, probably the best overall package of Panasonic's cameras.

    Thanks for all the great videos. I've been using M43 since 5 months and it is astonishing how many photos I've been taken with my GM1 though I got a "normal" job. Using primes (Pana 15mm/1.7, 25mm/1.4 and Oly 45mm/1.8 there is still a telezoom missing (thinking about the two 35-100mmm Panasonics). All my primes fit in my jacket mounted on the camera. With a telezoom, I think this advantage is lost. So I am thinking about buying a second body just to use it with the bigger lenses. Do you think it is worth waiting for a gx8 (I do not see so much difference between GM1 and GX7 in picture quality and handling). Or maybe an OMD E-M10 EM1 (can get these quite cheap via a friend in Hongkong) the best choice for the moment? I hardly do videos, I am more interested in very good photos of my 2 year old son.

  • @ilanhoward
    @ilanhoward 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I own the GM1. I miss the EVF, but I do prefer the inegrated flash (that I can bounce), and the 3:2 monitor. The dial works well for me. I was thinking of getting now the GX85, but I am not happy with what I've read about the EVF.

    • @DavidThorpeMFT
      @DavidThorpeMFT  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't have any problems with the EVF on the GX85, witness the fact that I use the camera as my standard carry about. It's a bit smaller than the Olympus E-M10's but not to any extent that you would notice unless comparing cameras side by side. It is bright and contrasty but there can be a shearing effect due to the way i9t operates. I personally don't see it but some do. An alternative with a bigger finder is the G7 but that lacks the non-shock shutter and stabilization. It's difficult measuring one attribute off against another but with the GX85 it is about the only criticism that could be levelled against it. Could you get your hands on one top try the EVF? I don't think it would put you off but these things are so personal.

      It doesn't have a full mechanical shutter but uses an electronic front curtain or fully electronic one. As such, it goes from a faint whisper, a little quieter than the already quiet G80/85 to silent.

    David! 2019 calling. It's a bit on the large side compared to my newly aquired GM1 (with 12-32 and 35-100). On the subject of flashes, I am starting to master my Godox TT350o in S1 mode with it. If I know myself, there will be a GM5 in the half distant future. After that, the smallest stabilized Panasonic camera (which is?). Or mayby, the reverse order? Main camera for now is my, also new, GH5.

    Thanks for all the hard work! Can I ask, is the rx100 comparable to this?

    • @DavidThorpeMFT
      @DavidThorpeMFT  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Emmet Dallat Thanks Emmett! The RX100 would be comparable if you don't want interchangeable lenses (many people who buy interchangeable lenses cameras never feel the need for more lenses) and you don't mind some drop in image quality. I'd say that of you are a serious enthusiast, the RX100 isn't comparable. But if what you want is to take pictures of everyday things, family, holiday etc and you find the quality from a mobile phone not good enough, something like the RX100 would be a revelation. If I wasn't as committed to photography I am, something like the RX100 would be what I would use.

    • @igetsmart
      @igetsmart 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      The old RX100 is surly compact but the drawback was the lens was not as fast as the new RX100m3 - old RX100 is 28-100mm F1.8-4.9 and basically 4.9 at 35mm - the RX100m3 has a shorter focal range of 24-70mm but brighter at F1.8-2.8 also the RX100m3 has a backlit sensor - improving low light performance -
      I would also suggest you look at the Canon G7X as it is the same size and $100 less and has longer focal range of 24-100mm F1.8-2.8 and stops down slower so a bit better in low light at certain focal range -
      The key factor with the Canon is that it has Touch LCD and Touch To Focus which the Sony does not have - however Sony as a EVF or viewfinder - but I think most point and shoot users will use the LCD anyway - but of course in very sunny condition a viewfinder is helpful -
      Now if you want the better quality like that of the GM5 and a fixed 24-70mm F1.7-2.8 lens then the LX100 is a good option - it has a EVF - but sadly no Touch LCD - So for beginners and point and shoot shooting the RX100m3 and Canon G7X are very practical especially the Canon G7X with the Touch LCD and longer focal range and lower price -
      However for someone that wants to grow as a photographer GM5 is a super nice choice I think - powerful yet so tiny and loaded with features

      +rainyn Hi - yes someone else mentioned that. It's English irony and it doesn't translate well into a video voiceover I now realise! Sorry to be so slow answering - yes, I liked it very much. Essentially it performs like any other recent Micro Four Thirds camera but is much smaller. That's it. I'd have expected more compromises but really the only compromise is that the EVF is small. No way round that. You could put in a bigger EVF but then you'd have to call it a GX7 or something :-)

    it's a shame it wasn't a body only option as anyone with a GM1 will have the 12-32 already.... it'll make a good second camera. the 12-32 frustrated me remove lens cap turn on camera extend lens... the little PZ reduces a step.....I was tempted but went with the LX100, with the freeby cap all you have to do is turn it on! a compromise I know as I can't swap lenses but works for me and life is full of compromises.... the lx100 has decentish macro..... as ever a nicely balanced review

    great review as always - got the GM1 and really like it - but after hearing your review might upgrade sometime next year once price starts dropping a bit - for now I opted to get the LX100 and really like it - but miss the Touch LCD - just cannot figure out why no Touch LCD on the LX100 - 4k is nice - I might opt to wait for GM6 if I hear a rumor that it will have IBIS - so a toss which camera to take out - the GM1 or the LX100 - as I love operating the GM1 with the Touch LCD and focus but of course LX100 has the 24-70mm F1.7 - 2.8 lens but not as much fun to use

    • @DavidThorpeMFT
      @DavidThorpeMFT  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      igetsmart There's always something, isn't there? I can't imagine why the LX100 doesn't have a touch screen but I can only think that, having put 4K video on it, they don't want it to have too many attributes in case it takes sales from their other lines. For many, many photographers a 24-70 fast zoom is all they want. If it had a touch AF (which I use habitually), maybe they fear an impact on GM/ GX sales?

      Thanks Adam. Unfortunately Panasonic has discontinued the Gm1 and 5. Although not really 'micro' like those the GX9 is about the nearest - certainly a good size for travel. There is also the Olympus E-M10 in mark 2 and 3 guises. The Olympus has a better EVF but for me the Panasonic's rangefinder style square body slips in and out of a shoulder bag better and has the bonus f the 20Mp sensor.

      I have a GM1. It's a bit smaller than the GM5 and I reckoned that if I wanted a camera purely on the basis of its size, the very smallest was the one to get. I use it strapped to my chest for bike videos and for taking places where I might not otherwise have a camera, the gym, for example. It's a great little camera, obviously handicapped in ergonomics by its size as it has to be. I set it up for my usual stills shooting on Custom 1 and FHD video in the Movie mode and then I don't have to use the controls much anyway. Lovely little cameras, the GMs. I thought they'd be big sellers - so don't ask me for any stock market tips 😒

      @DavidThorpeMFT  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      One of the longest lasting pleasures of my life is France and speaking French. Cameras, of the two I'd be inclined to the GM5. It has the EVF which, though small, is perfectly usable and the camera has a good solid feel. Unfortunately they don't make them any more so you'd have to buy second hand. The GX800 has a plastic body which in my experience doesn't mean it is any less strong but it doesn't feel as nice. On the other hand it has all the facilities of the modern Panasonics like 4k video and a swivelling screen. If you can live without an EVF, the GX800 is a very reasonably priced camera capable of the same quality results as its bigger siblings. On balance, I'd say the GX00 would be better for you.

      I haven't noticed it but I wear glasses so probably don't see the edges pf the EVF as well as you do. If you have had it on 3 of them it sounds like it's a attribute of the EVF. Maybe someone else knows more and would care to reply to Faki?

    Hi thanks for the review.
    a quick question. I already own a gx7 and a gf3 + 3 prime lenses for MFT system. Originally i transitioned from the panasonic fz150, then split into GF3 and pentax system. As i do alot of outdoors, the GF3 became un-sell-able (the amount of scratches all around the body from drops and its exposure to tropical rains, desert sands in the middle east and -20oC environment in scandinavia just was too much to sell this camera) and I went ahead to GX7 while doing major photos with my pentax system. Now that i have sold my pentax, the GX7 is now my main camera. I am thinking of upgrading the GF3 to a small side camera that would use the same set of lenses. Do you think GM1 or GM5 is worth the investment (putting gf3 out of commission finally) or do you think i should wait a little longer?
    I don't know if this makes any sense as GX7 is already an all-round camera but my experience during 3 years with pentax have experience numerous times how having a secondary backup (at the time GX7) saved the day.
    Also if you are interested in my photos please checkout www.heavensfall.org
    cheers

      Jo Peace Hi Jo - I don't think there will be anything radically new in the way of smaller cameras (not that I have any inside info whatsoever but the GM1 is about as small as MFT could go) so the GM1 and GM5 are likely to be it. The GM5's EVF is pretty small and if it is to be used purely as a back-up occasional camera, I'd probably go for the GM1. It is smaller and the monitor is better. One proviso, if you are like me and shoot with one basic setup the GM1 is fine. What I mean is, I always shoot RAW, 4:3, Aperture Priority, Auto ISO 200-1600, so the only alterations I'd normally make would be to the aperture. If you ring the changes on parameters a lot, the GM1 is an awkward little beast and the GM5 is better. Plus, if you regularly shoot in bright light conditions, the EVF is worth having.

    Any advice on GM5 vs GX7 as a second body to my GH3? I want something small with EVF. GX7 probably has better ergonomics but GM5 is more pocketable/take anywhere...decisions, decisions.

    • @DavidThorpeMFT
      @DavidThorpeMFT  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Brian Andrews Hi Brian. Yes, difficult. It's true the GM5 is pocketable (ish) but only with the 12-32mm lens. If you fit the 12-32mm to the GX7 it's not pocketable except in a coat pocket but it is, nevertheless, very compact. The GM5's EVF is not something you'd want to use often and the lack of tilting monitor a real nuisance.
      Unless you really, really must have the small size, the GX7 is a much better buy for general toting around and use in my view.

    Hello David,
    thanks for sharing your views on the GM5.
    Please could you advise what aspect ratio the viewfinder is, and how the real-world size compares with a camera I have - Gh3. The spec. is Gh3 = 0.67x, Gm5 = 0.42x (35mm equ.) I don't understand what these mean.
    I know the rear LCD is 16:9 on Gm5.
    I really like the experienced, practical and entertaining manner of your videos,
    thankyou,
    David Barwick, Norfolk, 18-Jan. 2015.

    • @DavidThorpeMFT
      @DavidThorpeMFT  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      David Barwick Glad you like the videos, David and thanks for the kind words. The GH4 I use for comparison in the video is the same size as the GH3, so you can get a good idea of the size difference from that. The first thing that strikes you is just how small the camera is. The EVF spec simply means that if you look through the EVF with one eye open, the GH3's image will appear 0.67 times that of the open eye, real world view and the GM5's 0.42times, ie less than half size and about 2/3rds the size of the GH3's.
      It's hard to work out the aspect ratio of the EVF but seems to be biggest a 4:3 so probably that's it.

    • @davidbarwick5041
      @davidbarwick5041 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      David Thorpe Thanks for the prompt reply David, your explanation of the evf size is most helpful, I assumed the body would be @ Half GH3's, so that is good clarification.
      I think you are correct about the 4:3 aspect ratio, as I looked @ Camera Labs preview, and Gordon Laing confirms this.
      Z
      I noticed the add on grip for GM1 will also fit the GM5.
      Hope this helps others to make informed choice about this camera, I'm hovering between it and a GX7 body as 2nd more portable kit.
      Regards, David.

    Enjoyed your review, however, your final thoughts seemingly are lost in translation? "It just ain't right" could mean a "don't buy" recommendation in American speak, as it's just not right? yet I suspect that you intended it to mean somehting else, yes? What exactly do you mean here in this context?

    • @DavidThorpeMFT

      Yes, it's a sort of reverse meaning thing that seems to be peculiar to UK English. I only found that out when I got queries like yours, so I'll keep that in mind in future. What I mean isn't right is that a thoroughly modern and full featured camera can be packed in such a small body, making you think about why other bodies are so (comparatively) big. +Bounyong Souksakhone I don't but that's because I only use flash indoors. Outdoors, I prefer not to fill in backlight or shadows because I like the raw effect of it. If I was still working professionally I'd have to use fill-in flash out of doors for reproduction purposes and the 1/50th of a second makes it unusable. So yes, it is a limitation of the camera.
      Most 35mm film cameras synced at around 1/60th and that was why for certain purposes the Rolleiflex hunfgaround so long. With its Compur shutter, it could sync at any speed up to its max at 1/500th. In that respect, we've gone backwards a bit.

    • @davidthorpe7732

      You can't apply filters to RAW files simply because they wouldn't be RAW any more. A RAW file is, in principle, the RAW data straight from the sensor. Any filters are applied to the JPG derived from the RAW file. It's as if the RAW file is a negative in film terms, you shoot the pic and have a negative. You can apply a soft focus filter to a print made from the neg but you can't apply it to the negative.

I was trying GF1 and GF3 and at the moment I have a chance to test GX7 which is great - ibis, viewfinder, solid build - but it is almost same size and weight as G6. B Duncan It doesn't seem right that something this small should have the abilities and IQ that it does.

      +David Thorpe - aahh, so that is what you mean? Now, THAT makes sense. Threw me as I felt your review was quite positive.

      +Bill Booz I've learned now that saying something in person and on a video are two different things. In person you'd see the exaggerated shake of the head and a smile. On a video voiceover it's just the words and no visual clues. So I appear to be contradicted what've said throughout the review. I blame my mother. Or Father. Or society. Anyone but me :-)

    For one I like the "awful" control wheel of the GM1 better than somewhat sticky control wheel of the GM5. Horses for courses I guess...

      Absolutely right, horses for courses. It's amazing how one person can loathe something - and the thing they loathe is the reason another one bought it!

    b Tommy Douglas Yes, the wifi and apps - and in a camera the size of a packet of cigarettes.Because we are familiar with it now doesn't make it any the less mazing.

    One day I'll find one of these locally for a non-ridiculous price...

    The lens alone costs £280 which means you could by a GM1 with the lens for £50 more... Strange

    +Dr23rippa On more than one occasion I've bought a camera and lens for the lens and just sold on the body. If you can be bothered to do it, it's a money saver.
