The light is similar to EGO's light on their lawnmower product line (which we also own). It is now the standard on virtually all new cordless power drills - where the tool illuminates the worksite. I bought the 45 cm EGO chain saw yesterday. WOW. I had a very old iron bark log about 30cm long and my 15 ton splitter would not even look at it. The EGO dealt with it brilliantly. I might add that I cut it into 10cm thickness, and even then the splitter struggled. It was seriously hard wood, BUT the EGO stunned me with how well it cut through it. I have two petrol chain saws, and they are both going on Gumtree. I already have the self-propelled EGO lawn mower, so now I have two batteries. This is a brilliant machine. Well designed, and about as good as they get. Thoroughly recommend this saw.
just picked up one of these beasts at Lowe's with $80 US off for 18 inch (total $169 USD)....didn't need the charger or battery so it was a great deal...great video that popped up on my feed
In the U.S., many states have hurricanes or tornadoes. Even earthquakes where I'm from. If a tree falls on your house and you need to cut the branches at night, the light will come in handy.
I'm sure you made a fine video and review for this saw HOWEVER, you spent all your time showcasing what the saw does and not a lick of time showing what's under the cover. Are all the components made of steel or is the most crucial thing made of plastic like the Makita..here's your chance to shine boys. Remove that cover and explain what you see. Hi guys, I've been using saws for almost 41 years, have and had the biggest for slab cutting and more. I'm not a novice! lol .Those spikes are called dogs. I know all about Greygum, Stringy and Ironbark sawing. Great vid, I like that ego saw for small work and am effing tempted......
Nice review guys, Ego really makes some nice stuff. It might be best if you leave the chain that came with on the saw for your reviews so that we have an idea what to expect out of the box.
Pro1er Yep agreed, we ordinarily would never change it mid review but I had used it so much that on the day of filming and final testing it was cooked :/ Just an unfortunate oversight of mine. If you rewatch at 2.08 I know for a fact that is on an almost flat 5.0 and a very well used chain. I noted it at the time. (Mike)
The light can be useful in or after a storm when power goes out and you may have to cut a fallen tree or branches in the dark to clear the road or a driveway.
Another very cool video guys and what looks to be a very nice little chain saw as well. I'm in the market and i think this may just be the machine that will fit the bill.

I'm also curious about whether this is a potential alternative to my petrol chainsaw...am a bit over wasting time fiddling around with my petrol chainsaw....cranking the starter multiple times..cut outs etc. etc... (and that after a recent service) .I'm sure the power is fine on this..but will a couple of 5amp batteries last long enough to fill a 6 x4 trailer ? (Currently Ego have a rebate where a 2.5 gets thrown in..but I figure probably would need at least 2 x 5amps) Might even be best to buy the bundle with a 5 and then pay for a 7.5...Anyway...thank you! hmm runtime is hard with chainsaws. i think you're best bet is to have a look at the video we did on the original 14" EGO chainsaw. that will give you an idea of how much you can cut on their batterise. My guess it that with 10Ah you could probably just fill a 6x4.

Im no chainsaw expert, but I've done a lot of maths in my life. Distance of travel (per revolution) x RPM will give you a speed. Since an increase in bar size results in a increased travel distance (e.g. length of chain), they have to be related. Am I missing something? [Dwain]
@@OZToolTalkThe drive sprocket will change chain speed, guide bar has no bearing on the chain speed. Eg: 7 tooth drive sprocket will move chain 87.5% as far per revolution as an 8 tooth sprocket. A 9 tooth will move the chain 112.5% as much as an 8 tooth. So lets say then that the chain speed is 20m/s coming off the sprocket. whether its a 14 or a 24" bar makes no difference to the chain speed. It just means the number of sprocket revolutions required for the chain to do one full revolution of the bar is higher. If anything, a longer bar is more drag and generally has the effect of sapping chain speed from a chain but for the purpose of theoretical discussion, we will ignore than variable. Not sure if you ride bikes but it's the same thing. You change the chainring size, and it will change how fast the chain moves between the crank and the rear mech. If you had a longer chain stay and therefore a longer chain (same as a longer guide bar) the absolute speed of the chain does not change at all.
@@OZToolTalk AndrewFord is right. The RPMs are measured at the drive axle. Maybe you could say that a longer chain has more momentum, but chain speed will be exactly the same on all 3 sizes of bar.
@@OZToolTalk I tried tonnes of different things such as different oils to different bar to different chain,all seems to be same :( it is really sad thing. There is also no adjustment screw for the oil.when you put the shorter ego bar(16") it goes so fast and so hot it is annoying. I guess I got a faulty unit and will contact to warranty
@@OZToolTalk Correct.EGO one is ultra fast. Hence if you test it longer than 45mins you will see that it cooks up the bar. Something to do with the oil system. I am aiming to buy new bar and test it but I doubt it will make a difference. Also their warranty and service experience was nightmare(and I am not alone, look up online) and I will never ever buy anything EGO brand ever!
High Veggie (Mike) We had used every model ego they have made and never had that issue, the current 18" is my saw and i use it a CRAP LOAD and have used it for multiple batteries in a run and experienced no bar issues. Im not doubting your experience but not sure its a wide spread problem as you seem to be saying.
Picked up one of these saws only to find that the hole in the bar clogs up and doesn’t let the oil though. Also the oiler doesn’t work properly in general. Real shame plenty of power.

It would be good to know if the notorious chain throw issue, cited in many user reviews for the 16" model, has been resolved or not. The metal bumpers is a vote in confidence for the delivered power.

Love your videos. I wonder how it compares to the Craftsman 60 volt. I picked it up last year on clearance for around $125 US with 2.5 battery. Seems to run good compared to Milwaukee. Used it on a medium size pine and had it cut up in less than an hour with no shutdowns/overheating. Soft wood for sure but went through it like a champ. I Haven't owned the Dewalt or that 18" ego.
Hi Boston. I don't know for sure, but I belive it'll be no problem. The chain gauge is .043 instead of 0.05 i believe, but you will need new chains anyway for the shorter bar. I think you'd feel a little power increase if you went down a size :D

I have no doubt it's all those adjectives and more, based on the Milwaukee 16" I used to slice & dice a huge maple. Purchased a Milwaukee string trimmer at the same time, and it kind of sucked. So, I returned it and purchased EGO's 15" string trimmer kit. Day & night difference from the Milwaukee. EGO puts well thought out engineering into their products. Execution is A+ compared to Milwaukee's half assed offerings. Milwaukee's getting by on their name, while EGO is making a name for itself. Gave my adequate Milwaukee chainsaw to my son and purchased this 18" EGO kit, as well as their stellar 650CFM leaf blower kit. Putting my 23 year old Stihl BG75 out to pasture. You guys are a riot, and channel great, so I'm subscribing. Keep up the good work!

i think that if you get 2x7ah batteries (i got them fromt he snowblower kit at very good price) and you switch once one gets warm, and slow charge them when they are not in use, you can work all day. i got myself a backpack link to keep the weight to a minimum. i cant think of a better setup for cutting wood, except if you need to climb with it. sadly, they dont have any tools for this kind of job yet.

youtube knows im looking to buy one of these, sent me your video my way. i appreciate. to me, this chainsaw is the one to get. im living off this kind of work, and im not sure im ready to use it on the hardcore jobs yet, but for my personal chainsaw, i wouldnt chose anything else. (only way i can see myself use this profesionnally is with the commercial backpack battery + adapter but its expensive. i bought 2x 7a batteries and a backpack link, hoping that switching those 2 will give me good continuous runtime)
36 vs 56v and lower amperage. it's designed for pruning. This can fell trees and cut up a serious amount of wood. With a honda genny and their power pack (so 3-4 batteries on the go with a fridge running etc) you can properly use this thing all day quietly.
i bought an 82volt victa 18" 7 days ago battery became faulty returned it today, they say 150 cute for 2amp battery i got about a dozen cuts out of each battery charge, not the 150 they say, didn't like the victa cut either it was slow cutting through logs about 25cm to 30cm
That's a shame, I don't personally believe any 'cuts' advertised with chainsaws as it's SOO variable. 50 or 150 cuts of a small piece of pine. For example means nothing when you are using it to cut your firewood out of 10-15" logs.
Hi guys. Can you comment about this saw leaking oil heavily when stored? Plenty of complaints on that on Ego support forum with official answers mostly being "put at underneath it". Should one indeed drain the oil after each use?
try your local mower store as well, mine has it and pretty much the same price as total tools, its the rep's that can give you a discount so talk to them if you want to buy a pack and extra battery at the start might get you a lower price

Mine started leaking oil I left the bar oil in it didn’t tip it out at the end after use and it leaked I don’t know if it’s a fault or what
how much oil? if it leaked out half a tank, yeah that's an issue. but they all leak a little.

During the tests Did you have issues with bar heating??And how much oil it used??My oiler pumps oil but seems like not enough as bar gets ultra hot 😞

None of the cordless saws (we have) seem to have an Oiler adjuster. Maybe it's the next evolution needed for the cordless market !

Could you get the backpack battery kit so it will put less stress on your shoulders carrying that 18-in one with a 56-volt battery?

Bucking spikes. For bucking(crosscutting) delimbed trees into logs. In Americanese anyway. Looks like a helluva saw!

36 vs 56v and lower amperage. it's designed for pruning. This can fell trees and cut up a serious amount of wood. With a honda genny and their power pack (so 3-4 batteries on the go with a fridge running etc) you can properly use this thing all day quietly.
i bought an 82volt victa 18" 7 days ago battery became faulty returned it today, they say 150 cute for 2amp battery i got about a dozen cuts out of each battery charge, not the 150 they say, didn't like the victa cut either it was slow cutting through logs about 25cm to 30cm
That's a shame, I don't personally believe any 'cuts' advertised with chainsaws as it's SOO variable. 50 or 150 cuts of a small piece of pine. For example means nothing when you are using it to cut your firewood out of 10-15" logs.
Hi guys. Can you comment about this saw leaking oil heavily when stored? Plenty of complaints on that on Ego support forum with official answers mostly being "put at underneath it". Should one indeed drain the oil after each use?
Most saws leak oil to some degree though right? I've heard complaints about almost every cordless brand of chainsaw regarding oil leakage ... [Dwain]

try your local mower store as well, mine has it and pretty much the same price as total tools, its the rep's that can give you a discount so talk to them if you want to buy a pack and extra battery at the start might get you a lower price
