    Two nice guys doing business and finding common ground can be interesting. An expensive adventure for Mark and Jessica but like Mark said, the chance to spend time together solving problems and meeting challenges will be remembered for life. Thanks to you both for sharing this story.

    I hit a pothole a few months back, in my Acura Integra, on a holiday. I had no spare, so I had to wait three hours for a tow back to my dealership. Got there around 1230 am or so. I hate that all cars seem to be low profile tires, with no spare.

    I buy vehicles for work out of state and have always gotten “in transit” plates to get me home. All you have to do is go to the notary or whatever that state calls them and tell them you need an in transit plate. They’re just paper but that’s the way to do it until you get home to your own notary to apply for a title.

    Had similar happen to a friend in the downtown area here in Vancouver BC… both he and I had bought our model threes in 2022 and his winter came along we got a deal on ice tires/ all weather tread but with a three peaks re-snow capability. Anyway, my friend had his tire somehow leaking air rapidly and cold Tesla via the app: the upshot of the conversation was that as the tires were purchased elsewhere i.e. other than tesla provided we were to call either the motor club or have it towed privately as it wasn't covered. It was rush-hour cell aft er the third hour waiting, another friend and I decided to take a wheel to him from my car to rescue him. That got my friend Home that night and lesson learned……,,!

    The lack of spare tires is a problem. It makes road tripping a bit of a crap shoot. I have had three flats in the past 15 years. All were due to road hazards. Then the question is whether a temporary spare or a tow is a better solution? Mark handled this situation very well, but it was funny that his computer battery ran out of juice at the end of the podcast. Keep that Tesla charged up Mark so you don’t need another tow.

    One other thing when buying new or used, ask the seller to not charge it to max maybe to 50% and ask to test out the DC charging Before taking delivery especially on a long trip. I bought a Brand New 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 that could not fast DC charge, and the thing that saved me is I decided to try the DC charging before going on a 1800 mile road trip 2 weeks before and that is when I discovered I could not fast DC charge. That was no small potatoes to get repaired 7 months and 6 service trips to get if fixed and with that bad experience I got my 2023 White on white Model Y AWD Long Range with the 19" wheels and tow hitch, sounds familiar?

    Great interview! I too recently had a long road trip over the Christmas holidays from NC to NH and decided there’s no way in hell I’m going to drive almost 2000 miles without a spare. So I got the Modern Spare and found a video on TH-cam that showed how, by removing the lower rear sub trunk you can for the Modern Spare in there and still leave your main hatch area open. Tesla should do a small redesign of the softer parts of the rear area to allow everyone to carry a spare if they so wish.

    Not just EV's who don't have spare tires. Neither do motorcycles, and I've been touring on them since 1971. I once had a tire slashed badly on some object just outside Aspen, Colorado, on a 1300cc BMW K1300. Certainly no tires locally. Fortunately I had cell service there, and fortunately I had a friend nearby who came and got me in his truck. Ended up getting trucked to the BMW shop in Denver for a new tire. I had tire repair kit, but no way it could work on that cut.

    Dave why didn’t you use the transfer of ownership of the Y to Mark that is available in the Tesla app? If you had done that then Mark would have not needed to jump through all the hoops he did with Tesla to claim ownership of the car. Sounds like all you did was add him as a driver in the app. I sold my Y to my son about 2 months ago and used the transfer of ownership functionality in the app and the process was seamless. My son was the owner of the car in about 10 minutes. The process was fully automated and they never had to interact with Tesla. As soon as I transferred ownership, the Y was no longer listed in my Tesla app.

    7:00 ICE-T, while trying to get to the dmv to renew his driver’s license and registration on one of his cars ran afoul of a cop with some Y chromosome brain damage. The sergeant tried to get the ego tripping kid cop to calm down and drop two of the four citations he was writing to no avail, but managed to talk him down from towing the car. Overall ICE-T handled the situation well, I hope he succeeded in getting his papers in order.

      In Michigan, bc Tesla isn’t technically a dealer in this state (can’t store new unsoldcars here), they’re required to obtain and install plates with a new car purchase/delivery - no transfers allowed, and no temp tags. I was surprised to find the real license plate on the car when I picked it up - the entire transaction was handled in a week.

    Good thing you didn't buy a new tire from a Tesla service center! They will make you buy all four tires or nothing! Past experience by someone I know! They had no choice because they ruined the wheel from the flat. Tesla would not sell the wheel unless they replaced all four tires. The tires had been replaced recently and had a little over 2000 miles on them.

    • @AnthonyFaucci
      @AnthonyFaucci 15 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      That’s not unique to Tesla. This is common practice for AWD vehicles when a new tire has a greater tread depth differential than the other 3 tires (3/16”-5/16”). Having a greater diameter of one out of four tires is really hard on the vehicle.
