I really got exhausted listening to all the talks about how "stupid", "ungrateful", "ignorant" Josh Gordon is and all the talks about what it means in terms of football, especially from people who are not even trying to understand how addiction works and won't address the mental health aspect. Before he is a football player, Josh Gordon is a man and what matters the most is his well-being as a man. There are other guys in the league who struggle as well and who are less likely to seek help because of this kind of backlash and stigma. We have to do better as a society.

Money doesn’t have a damn thing to do with the problems. Or fixing them. Zero. I’ve struggled with substance abuse off and on which I accept is my burden and responsibility to be my best to overcome, but let me tell you it was a huge mind fuck and sent me back down into the struggle when I realized I was 0% happier after consecutive years making 100-137k than I had been making 35k. Once your basic needs are met money provides no more lasting satisfaction than taking a hit of a drug.

Uncle is a vegetable, dad murdered at 44, he was a drug dealer, alcoholic, crack addict. I have been sober 11 years. I will tell you sympathy, and empathy only goes so far. At some point he needs to face the demons, not be allowed to slide. He needs to hit rock bottom, people keep enabling, and making excuses. I spent much of my life surrounded, and being an addict myself. Obviously being pampered isn't working, time for tough love. You will never know the power inside you, if people won't let you fall. It is a waste, it is a shame, and Gordon needs to face it. AA and other organizations teach you to face it and except it. What in life is really that easy? Would never know joy if it wasn't for pain!

I’m Cancer free now praise god but Im 29 and it came out of the blue and I was down for 12 weeks. Luckily I’m financially well off and work for a great company but I was on pain medicine and went into it making sure I didn’t get addicted. I didn’t have any issues but I absolutely 1000% can see how someone can get addicted. It definitely numbs your pain and puts you in a “docile” state that is addicting to the right person

Cris Carter is the best option for Josh Gordon. He knows better than anyone else who can help this young man overcome his pain and addiction. Cris talked about his own struggles and he said Josh needs to work on his life and not worry about football because he's fight to win the most important game of all, living life without the drugs and mental illness killing him. I know about the mental health part and I pray that he gets well soon because he has so much to look forward to once he overcomes the first hurdle. Forget about the game of football and worry about the game of life. Wife, kids, and the joy that brings us far and away is greater than the glory of the gridiron.

While its true we shouldn't judge them, the bigger problem with Josh is people making excuses for him and enabling him. He has been pretty clear that people have done that his whole life for him because of his talent. So many people with addiction problems try to blame their problems on "mental illness" and claim they are self-medicating when they are really just trying to avoid taking responsibility for their actions and committing to change.

It's a substance rule in the NFL. Also people smoke weed for different reasons. Some do it just to get up in the mornings. If the reasons you're doing it is toxic, then it becomes an addiction. Weed itself isn't bad, its the reason for doing it that's questioned.

I guess in the end you'll defend a product that you like regardless of the outcome. Mad respect to Louis Riddick!! That was my initial take when I first heard this story. So much has been made about Josh's inability to stop smoking weed but no one cared to asked if there were any mental health issues that preceded that.( Like Ricky Williams) There's no such thing as being addicted to weed, but if you're suffering in silence from a undiagnosed condition and you happen to self medicate with a plant that has proven benefits, then you would be reluctant to stop too. Even if it costs you millions. I always wondered why Josh would fail these drug tests when the culture of the NFL players who smoked knew about the annual test, shared the details with each other, and clean their systems in enough time to pass the test. But this may have not been about a young man who was too stupid or selfish to get himself clean to pass tests, it may have been too emotionally taxing to go without it, even for a short time. Anxiety and depression are serious mental health issues that can be managed by smoking weed, rather than prescriptions that have side effects and lose their potency over time. The research is backing this up too. So could he have been coping with these issues before he started smoking? Idk, but I do know the NFL has to catch up very quickly on their stance on cannabis. Josh basically failed a series of drug tests over his career but the NFL would make you believe this guy was trafficking weed or getting arrested multiple times. Nope, just dirty piss. Shame on them. As more and more players come out as advocates for cannabis use and legalization, I hope the league and their media mafia don't try to frame the story of Josh Gordon as a reason to keep prohibiting cannabis as a PED or illicit substance with no real benefits. This is bigger than football, and while I wish Gordon's football story could've been different, I couldn't care less about that right now. I just want Josh to be happy and healthy, whether that's sober or on a medical marijuana program. I don't wanna hear more bad news in the future that he wasn't able to get the help he needed and did something drastic. I'm proud of him and I'm praying for him and I ask that all football fans do the same.

Louis stop making excuses. Yes it is a sensitive subject when you are given multiple chances over and over again and you decide to piss it all away then clearly he doesn't care. He dropped that tweet before the NFL dropped their statement. I hope Josh gets better but at the same time man and show some accountability

  • @peterpaz4877

Josh Gordon had enough mental sanity to keep cashing those checks and live a double life as far as his drug use. The ONLY reason he said "I am stepping away to focus on my mental health" was because he KNEW he f---d up and a potentially career-ending suspension was looming. He did the same BS in Cleveland. So this is NOT the first time. So GTFOH with this crap. Josh Gordon has NEVER taken full accountability and really sought help. All of his interviews have been solely to save his earning potential. If Josh Gordon himself has not cared about getting better, why should anyone else ???

I agree but you have to see things both ways. The negative criticism comes from the initial action of doing drugs in the first place especially with all drug awareness tv commercials that's flooded our air ways since 1979. For that reason some of the criticism is definitely justified but helping addicts beat the addiction is necessary.
