As a glass installer back in the day (90's) I grew up on string-in jobs, and still get the call for friends when they have glass needing swapping over. I'd have that in on my own in about 3 minutes 😁 Top tips for future jobs. As with take 3 start at the side, with a loop on the other side. When pulling in the string, pull it against the glass, the reason you were snapping the string is because it was rubbing over the sharp metal edge of the aperture. Pull in each side to get the glass central, then pull in the bottom and top edges.
I feel like you need that windshield trim. One, for continuity since the rest of the windows have it and two, without it, it gives 65+, big window car vibes. Props either way for getting it done 👍
Dish soap and don't be afraid to beat the crap out of that window. Get the bottom in first. Then with slight force and your palm hit the window downward. I use paracord when I do mine. Works every time. Good luck.
When roping in screens in the cold, you should soak the seal in hot water for half an hour before fitting and while fitting always pull the rope towards the centre of the glass NOT directly out
I love this car! The videos are just so much more engaging with Corey back. You seem to have much more fun with him there. Keep up the good work fellas
Nice job on the re-seal of the windshield. The only thing i would have done differently would be to wire brush the rust off the seal area before applying rust-oleum paint.
good! I had to learn the hard way many years ago on 1974 beetle. I did not wire brush off the old rust when i replaced the windshield only to have it come back after i painted the car..@@JohnLudwick
I felt the pain on that windshield install! My wife and I have never done that kind of work, and we struggled with resealing all the glass on my bug. It's not fun! We used 8 gauge wire.
Throttle cables are always like that for a while I had to take some decently heavy duty rope and tie it around the top of the gas pedal so I could pull it back when I took my foot off the pedal that was fun
I use soapy water and string trimmer line to rope glass in, works really well and the line will never break no matter how hard you pull! Also- Why no chrome?!?! You could have reused that original J profile chrome!
Ich benutzte immer eine Wäscheleine, die ist max. 2mm dick und sehr stabil mit innenliegender Edelstahlseele. Die Kordel die ihr benutzt ist zu stark im durchmesser
Love watching your channel man!! Growing up I always wanted a beetle just like this.. Can I enter the draw to win this thing if I'm all the way in SA?? 🇿🇦😅
Where is the best place to find window rubber sold by the foot? I have a 51 Plymouth that needs a windshield gasket and the pre-molded kit is way outside of my budget.

That’s great advice man! Thank you!

never understood the cali seals, looks too modern for the car and like u said doesn't match others
Always fun roping in windows. Spray way is great for cleaning prior to paint, I use it all the time
Dishsoap solution in the groove with the rope fellas.
Totally would have helped!
Yes, sir.
Those windshields in theory seem easy until its time to do it! Glad you guys got it!
I thought poor Corey was gonna curse dealing with that rope and windshield but y’all pushed through…nice work fellas…

Cory is the goat with them welding skills
Hard at work on this thing. Great work. 👍
You have a superhero there in Cory!

Yea that definitely would have helped!
Might need some sort of heat for the shop! Sometimes things just fight but you both kept at it and got the job done! So stoked!
Yea man seriously! Was hoping the cold spell would only last a couple days! Haha.
@@JohnLudwick don’t worry it will be 7-10 years before it’s this cold again lol
Great job guy. Good luck in FL

Great episode! Will be really eyeing the next one, just purchased a narrowed beam for my black ‘55 so will be studying it real well!

We actually did! I just didn’t film it 😂

You guys have more patience than I do haha. I would have used poly on that windshield after attempt 1 😂
Dude I was ready to just wear goggles everywhere and not run one at all 😂
Awesome video this beetle has the coolest patina. Have you guys tried POR-15 for rust?
I used por 15 on my pans and the finish is great for minimal effort.

Did I hear some heavy hitters playing during the spare tire rub getting welded in?
Oh absolutely! Haha

Good thing you don’t have rubber mats . One way to keep feet warmer
Take soap and a cable instead of a rope. Cables doesn't snap.

Two words: space heater.
Para cord is best to use
Guys... grab a propane heater to warm your garage. #Southernlivingprotip

16g automotive wire and WD40. It won't break and it works 100 times better. THEN you use the glass cleaner.
I keep hearing you say its a giveaway but havent heard what you have to do to be entered in to win unless i just missed it
The car isn’t finished yet, and I’m still wading through all of the logistics of it!
I’d say 95% of air cooled guys don’t run the 4th bolt lol
If you know you know yep I know are both of you taken or is one of you single maybe the guy without the mustache?😂
