Thank you for this. I’m traveling in a few days and was so nervous about going to this airport.

Great! It's definitely busy, but pretty straightforward to navigate.

The trees are Living. Weeping Figs ( Ficus ). They have acclimated well in the terminal and have embraced the environment for decades.

It looks like a mall from the 80's. 🤗

Looks ok there, but is going thru a huge expansion and renovation project and some of the concourses ( specifically the E regional flights one) are a mess, long hallways with non working walkways and poor signage . Keep your eyes on the yellow temporary signage, those are the ones that will direct you thru detours due to all the construction confusion , specifically the E carousel luggage area , good luck .

Here's a quick fact - The rocking chairs were brought in back in the 90's (some marketing deal) and were slated to be taken away after x time. The passengers loved them so much and were outraged that they were gong to be removed so the airport decided to keep them. It's sorta the CLT airport trademark and still rocking after thirty plus years :)

Quick history: the “main terminal” which is B/C plus the atrium, was the “new” CLT opened in the early 80s which became a hub for Piedmont. The expansion wing of original A followed next, originally a straight shot down that hallway, but new concourses are opening parallel to original A. Terminal D added improved international customs/processing, while E as you note is for regional jets. Twenty five years ago most of E was just a big holding room where you’d be called to different doors for different cities; now with RJs and jetways replacing turboprops E is more like a regular concourse.
The airport has grown awkwardly and until the current renovations pax originating and departing CLT still had to deal with the original 80s terminal. That should be done in the coming months.
Still I drive from Charlotte to RDU frequently for lower costs and more choices.

D was also the commuter concourse at the time until E opened 2001ish. D1-4 were mainline gates upstairs and then D5-19 were the express gates downstairs. I was always stuck working D19 every shirt with USAir...lol.

I fly out of CLT regularly. I love the atrium. It's a lovely airport 🛫 but the construction 🚧 has made it a bit challenging. It's still a good place. People are friendly and helpful. The worst part is the construction 🚧 which is ongoing. I'm 75 and I can walk the whole airport. Baggage claim is a nightmare.

Good video. However, your timing is off. No way possible its 6pm and that dark outside. The sun starts to in CLT a little after 8pm

I'm not sure if I accidentally say PM later in the video, but at the very beginning, I said 6 AM, hence why it was dark 😊

It's the sixth busiest airport in the U.S. There's hardly anyone there at 6 am. It gets real busy during the day. You have to wait forever to get baggage in baggage claim and they basically doubled the parking rates recently. I guess that's to help pay for the expansion and all of the upgrades.

This airport is a complete shit show. I have lived in NC and flown in and out for 30 years. It is terrible. Flew in and out May 2024. Rudest airport people ever. Dude did not show check-in process and TSA experience.
