This was amazing. I've freelanced for 10 years and I'm just about to take the dive into building out an agency, and this is giving me a great sense of perspective on what's in front of me. I would love to see the same video done all over again but on like a 2-hour scale!
I've been creating videos for clients for 6 years now as a solo videographer. I'm feeling burnt out and so many areas of production are not getting the attention I would like. I found this video in my search for where the heck to begin pitching to brands as a creative agency. Thank you for the help! P.S. Love that you're repping Kuppa Joy - it's my favorite coffee shop to go to when I'm visiting my in-laws!
Thank you for the insightful information. We're a brand new Creative and Marketing Agency. We've already locked in a few local clients and as we're looking to grow and expand, agencies like Butler Branding provide immense value and guidance. Cheers!
EMBR Marketing thank you for the kind words. We are glad to be a help in any way we can. If you haven’t done so already, the free webinar at agency.butlerbranding.com may be helpful to scale
Thanks for sharing. Would be super interested to hear WHEN you brought on your first employees, the decisions that needed to happen for bringing on your first employee.
I started with an employee. When I started Butler, I was running marketing for my mom’s companies. I hired a designer to help create websites for her. While we were working on her companies, we were moonlighting as an agency. There came a point in time where we did not need any more work for her companies, and I was getting really busy with Butler. And I had to make the decision to lunch out and do this full-time. By that time, we were already making enough money to cover both our salaries.
Great stuff again. Now I have to ask does the Marketing Director works on the marketing of the agency or the marketing of the clients? Also, I've noticed there is no Creative Director or Copywriter, how do you manage without them?
Nice ! Thank you so much. So basically, at Butler, this is a two-part subdivision of the agency structure. It's pretty different - and less cluttered - than what I'm used to see. And seems that it pretty works for you as an agency. Thank you for those insights. What about the workflow ? How do you deal with the process workflow ?
Prince Symenouh it definitely works for us. We are a small team, but the best way I see it structured. Regarding Workflow: search for some of the videos on our channel about project management (we have playlists about this). Everything you talk about are things I have experience in so I was looking into senior design strategist jobs that actually exist within my current company which is a huge one, so I'm trying to design my knowledge into a stunning resume of my experiences. It's just a matter of working my speech, by use of strong analogies and story telling to support or even build a team of people who can get to the grass roots of solutions. I don't have any questions as of yet, as I still have to speak my management about possibly going forward with the job requirements that i feel are so in tune with who I actually am, as far as how my brain works and after seeing your videos, I see that we're very similar in the way we connect the dots and simply explain stuff to others who literally have no idea or use that side of their brain for their business. Great stuff, I can't wait to see what i'm made of in my fortune 500 company. My thing is, remember when a computer trying to download a digital song before napster, it took hours, until the mp3 was created through a form of compression, which was an invention inspired by a need. It took a team to get the wrinkles laid out flat so they could build the right steamiron
Thank you for the insight. I am a project manager for a small branding agency. May I ask what tool you and your team use to manage all the tasks coming through your agency?
A branding agency is a creative agency. “Creative agency” is just a broad category. Being a Branding Agency just means we have an emphasis on branding. A creative agency can be video, photo, graphics, web, advertising, etc.
Found this video after searching for what a digital "fluid" agency is.. lol! I still don't know what the heck a "fluid" agency means.. someone I connected on Linkedin says she owns a "fluid" agency and that she's a branding strategist.. anyhoo,, it's neither here nor there...Maybe her agency's name is "fluid" ?? but I did find your content very helpful.. I'm a solopreneur (focusing on creative content and copy) who just got her first client and will be making my first pitch tomorrow...your video did not answer my question but I subscribed because I'm pretty sure I'll be getting back to your channel for more input when I hopefully create my own team -- I gotta ask though if I have to outsource, which position do you think I should outsource or hire first that would literally help my brand move forward and take on more projects?
Not sure what “fluid agency” means either... potentially a phrase they came up with to explain that they are flexible 🤔 Regarding hiring, we this video may help th-cam.com/video/puSRnwq61G0/w-d-xo.html Short answer - hiring will be different for each agency based on what your core-competency is, what your weaknesses and opportunities are, and what your immediate needs are. It’s good to hire freelancers on particular projects you need help on. If you’re frequently hiring freelancers for the same type of work, it’s likely time to think of a partnership or bringing on an employee.
Hello love the video! I have a question i hope you find it and be able to answer it because I am quite confused at the moment ant lost. So my dream is to have an advertising and marketing agency. I am current in the process of learning all about digital marketing and creative , my foundations are video photo and graphic design, but since im starting an agency im going to be one man agency till i secure enough clients to start hiring freelancers to help me out. So my question is do I start as freelancer marketer on social media or should i start by creating my brand and communicate with clients as we although im alone at the moment?
If you were starting an agency, then by nature your agency is multidisciplinary. So it is assumed that there is a group, or multiple people on the team. So if you are trying to position yourself as an agency, it would definitely be in the plural as a team. There’s really nothing stopping you from operating like that, so long as you set up the system and process to be able to work with the right freelancers. I would definitely not sell anything that you are not capable of fulfilling though.
@@ButlerBranding Oh wow thank you for a quick response, so is it fare to offer videography photography and graphic design services + social media management as agency since i am good at these skills? One more question what is the difference between ad agency and creative?
@@edvinaski I believe this industry is very subjective, and there is no one-size-fits-all solution. You can position yourself as you want, so long as it makes sense to the client and you're able to articulate it. So yes, I would imagine that you could position yourself as a social media content creation agency. Regarding the difference between ad agency and creative - I'm not sure. I would imagine all ad agencies are creative (you need to have the creative in order to do ads), but not every creative agency does ads. However, I do know that many ad agencies do not prioritize creative, and this is evident from their portfolio. One way you can set your brand apart is by positioning yourself as an ad agency who gives a crap about the creative. Then make sure your portfolio shows great work.
No clue. Payroll for 11 employees is around $50k/month. We make well more than that. Bills are paid. We Only hire based on need. When we need more employees, it’s because we are too busy to handle the work with the staff we have, which means we have margin to hire.
