This update knocked out my drivers for printing and wireless connection. I had to reload the wireless driver and manually connect to the printers in my network.
Windows kept nagging me for weeks to upgrade to 24H2, so I finally did yesterday, and now, I get bsod's. I installed Dell firmware updates, but I still sometimes get a bsod, especially when I connect or disconnect to a wireless display. (The first bsod was from an IRQL value being too low or something at the CPU level.) It took so long for 23H2 to become completely stable. I used to have the same issues on that version- bsods with seemingly random and diverse error codes from all over the computer. Dell updates fixed it in the previous version, so hopefully Dell will fix any lingering problems eventually. I have an XPS 15 from late 2020 with Intel core i9, Nvidia graphics, and 32 GB of RAM.
Just my opinion, I would get rid of all the Dell crap and block them at the firewall. ..You should have done a clean install with a USB Drive not keeping anything. Then later put your files back on there. You wouldn't have these issues.
@HOBBS-4 this may be a stupid question, but don't I need occasional firmware updates? Is it worth it to go out of my way to install those manually rather than going through the Dell app?
@@benschwartz6565 I did this on my HP Computer. Microsoft has the drivers you need. ..The only Driver you would need is if you have a newer gaming Graphics card. Then you would install the App for it.
I'm just an onlooker here. I'm not even getting Windows 11 at all. I run three Windows 10 computers. Two of them are becoming Linux machines, the third I operate offline, and it will stay on Windows 10 offline.
Hi Craig, do you have suggestions, hints, and/or tips on switching to Linux? I just started researching that this week, as I am so tired of the Windows/Microsoft BS. I would not consider myself a computer expert, but I am not a "newbie" either. I am certain with the right steps to perform, I could switch to Linux without many issues.
@@marcd1981 Not many, as I'm practically a Linux newbie myself. What I've been doing is, I've used Balena Etcher to make two bootable USB drives, one with Linux Mint Cinnamon, and the other with Ubuntu Studio, so that I can try out these distros without actually installing anything. When my laptop comes back from being looked at, I'll install one of those distros on that. After seeing how I go on that, I'll install the other one on my desktop.
With great anxiety i hit the search for updates, and there it went, no chance to divert, no asking, no suggesting, but straight pushed into download and install. Well so far it seems to have worked and still is working. Only thing i had to do was reenable local security authority protection and further i had a short TPM attestation not ready but that switched to ready while looking at it in security center. Lets hope this thing is finally a bit reliable.
There is an ongoing issue in Windows 11 24H2 where some ASUS devices experience BSODs. Microsoft has advised users not to manually update to version 24H2 until the issue is resolved.
I've blocked Feature Upgrades using Group Policy via regedit and paused the update till decembar 2028. I don't want a parenting company upgrading my PC without my say so. Thanks BrenTech.
24H2 is offered on my Win 11 Pro system but will not install due to an unknown error. It hangs for about 5-10 minutes at 36% complete after the first restart, then reports "Something did not go as planned...", then restarts *twice* to "undo changes". Fortunately, system runs OK after that.
Microsoft needs a big shake-up. They have been headed in the wrong direction for some years now. They need to provide Operating Systems everyone can use. And they need to get back into making accessories. Listen to us Microsoft and you will prosper.
I updated directly from 10 and it took me a couple of days to get everything where I wanted it to be and haven't had any other problems with 11 since getting it completely set up. I do not really like the UI but I can get my stuff done despite the UI. My motherboard does support W11 but I had to do a BIOS update to get it to work and it was tricky to find.
Does the "Select the target Feature Update version" group policy still work? If so that's a good way to have it stay with or max out at the version you prefer, whether Windows 10 or 11 (eg. Windows 11 23H2, or whatever).
Since I use ExplorerPatcher on my Windows 11 PC, which is currently running version 23H2, I don't feel comfortable updating to 24H2 yet and due to the number of issues that have been cropping up with this update (the quality of major updates have been bad since the inception of Windows as a Service in Windows 10) I need to hold on to 23H2 a little bit longer. Worse yet, since my SKU is Home, I can't use the registry trick to force Windows Update not to download 24H2 (I tried this a month ago but, it didn't have any effect due to my Windows 11 SKU being Home instead of Pro.) Microsoft, just give back control of updates to people just like it was before the era of Windows as a Service. (Windows 10/11)
In my option, Home editions of Windows are just a limited version of Windows in the event of being able to control certain aspects of Windows such a group policy settings where-as Pro edition are the full version of Windows giving you more control.
I mistakenly updated my windows 11 into 24h2 a week ago and it broke so many things and everything became so much slower than before. this week has been painful for me. I was already very interested in trying out linux but am abit scared since im not that good or patient to learn a new operating system. after this update I decided to dualboot a linux system (will decide between bazzite and fedora) along with Windows 11 and slowly after ensuring its good enough will finally ditch windows entirely.
Another former quality computer maker, Acer, is in this category as well. A brand new laptop (Aspire 3 15) has the worst sound quality I have ever had on a computer. You have to have the volume at a minimum of 60 to hear anything while watching movies / shows. And all of the suggestions from the Acer "experts" do not do a thing. No matter what I've tried, the sound stays sh#@@y. Even using ear buds requires the volume to be at 90.
I'd like them to try it on my Windows 10 i7-47700K rig, on which I have configured group policy to automatically reject any feature update beyond 22H2.
I feel very sorry for all of you. I spent almost an entire year carefully learning about Linux, watching videos here, reading articles from online Linux magazines, reading the information about each and every distro relevant for new users before I made the jump. I did not need to spend so much time researching, but I began to realize that I wanted to help others make the jump as well. I went from a Windows 8 version and began to try out beginner-friendly versions on a USB stick. After I tried each one, I chose my favorite distro and put Linux Mint on my laptop. No regrets. I distro hopped a bit. It is really easy to change distros if you like new features being developed. Even if you tried Linux eight years or so ago, give it another try. It is so much easier to make the switch. There are even distros you can put on Granny's computer. There is no need to suffer along with Windows any more.
About 4 years ago, I took my 2003 Toshiba Laptop 32 bit X86 with 1.5gb of Ram and installed Linux Mint OS. It was just enough to start getting used to running Linux and learning how to use new programs, for what I need to do. Two years later I installed Mint OS on my main Computer and can do everything I need to do. ...Some people are procrastinating and waiting until the last minute. They should start Now!!!
It sounds less like you're trying to help and more comes off as someone being smug and high off their own superiority complex. Are you a 13 year old kid? If not, shut the fuck up and let people do what they want with their devices. I am saying that as someone who regularly uses Linux.
I agree 💯 , fingers crossed, mainly because I am on music production territory too. About a year or so ago when they announced the Win 10 EOL I started exploring Linux well I had a troubleshooting on how to make my Bluetooth dongle to work until I learned that all depends if it's added to the kernel now the Bluetooth works without stutters and disconnections. In the meantime and as a newcomer I distro hopped a lot to find which distro works decently for my AMD FX-6300 based machine (I went from Zorin -> Mint -> Ubuntu Studio -> Fedora Jam ->Manjaro xfce) and to all those except Ubuntu Studio and Fedora Jam I had to find guides on optimizing them for music production to close things up I experienced a lot of freezes and even crashes on the music making programs. now I have installed Ubuntu 24.10 with Ubuntu Studio installer for the low latency audio tweaks and it seems a lot decent compared to others. Time will tell how it will go. If the Audio production is going to not operate good enough I will use my PC only for basic stuff.😊
Hi Laurie, thank you for letting us know this. I just started researching switching to Linux this past week. What do you suggest for someone starting their research to get switched over?

I disabled TPM 2.0 in my BIOS and did a registry hack to only go to 22H2. They pulled this same crap when Windows 10 was released. Yeah those Dirt Bags at Microscum are evil for sure. Glad I installed Linux Mint on another machine. I know there will be some programs and games that won't play nice with Mint...but going from DOS to Windows 95 was also painful.
I've noticed a new glitch with the taskbar in 24H2: when I close an app that is pinned to the taskbar, the icon on the taskbar remains underlined as if there is a window still open and in focus. Does anyone else notice this issue?
Microsoft appears to be taking more and more control of YOUR machine : loading it up with a ton of stuff you don't need or want : Making people develop tools to eliminate it and give them a choice to decide what to keep : Making users buy newer expensive machines to run stuff they will never use : I think a big battle is coming up between the O.S. systems out there : Especially between commercial and every day home users.
Win 11 is funny for sure. Gives you that good old "on the edge" feeling where everything is new and broken. But i will keep my old backup machine on win10 definitely. Everything works. Docs are safe. No "updates".
I've had 24H2 on five PCs for a couple of months. A 2012 Dell with a Core i5 3470 refused to install one cumulative update even after I did a repair install, but it took the last one this month. Microsoft was recommending users avoid the 24H2 update unless it included the December security update because Update was broken for some users. I had already moved to 24H2 before I saw that notice LOL. Linux is not an option, program wise or aesthetically, but y'all go for it. I'll be transferring a Windows 11 license to a new build and I want to put OSX on the old one. I need a Mac sibling for my Lenovo with XP Pro x64.
It's been sitting in the notice section for months now. I ignore it. Anyway, I gutted Windows long ago so nothing they push out will work. Thanx for the head's up though.
You say you get the 'Blue screen of death', when does that normally happen for you, I mean, during what in relation to what you are doing on your PC? I used to have the same issue when running Win 11 but it disappeared when returning to Win 10.
MS may be deliberately installing known faulty software - a feature update not security - that may damage the ability of a user's device to perform correctly. That, in my opinion, justifies a visit by someone with a lot of money to a lawyer to start a class action lawsuit against MS for "deliberate and willful damage to computer systems" which would be hacking in any other context.
hi, i have a Dell Precision 5550 and I have received an offical 24H2 update notification but i've heard that this build has a lot of problems.. do you advice me to update or wait further more as you suggested? thank you!
Found from another video a way to halt 24H2, is to turn on metered connection on your internet connection, and to make sure the option to download updates over metered connections is turned off.
My system doesn't offer the 24H2 update. Yes, it does meet the hardware requirements (14th gen Intel Core processor and TPM 2.0 chip) and currently runs 23H2. I wish Windows Update would say WHY my system is blocked from receiving the upgrade. I don't want to manually try to install it to find out why. And there doesn't seem to be a tool like PC Health Check to find out what blocker is blocking it. The reasons on the 24H2 issues page are sometimes confusing or not specific enough to track down what the issue is exactly. Microsoft just doesn't know what it is doing. Obviously Windows Update knows not to offer it. But it doesn't say WHY.
How to do we stop the upgrade until 10 goes EOL? Just keep delaying it? I thought about trying to turn off TPM 2.0 in bios, but I have a AMD cpu that has it so I am guessing that will not work. Will turning off secure boot stop it? Thx for your help and heads up... As soon a some Linux supports ALL steam games I will drop windows for sure.

Congratulations. You are now part of Microsoft's "quality control" program.
Reject the 11 return to 10 or get lenix.
Now is the time for a serious competitor to step up to the plate.
You have windows, Mac, chrome os, or Linux. Take your pick.
SteamOS.
Microsoft has advised users not to manually update to version 24H2 until the issue is resolved.
so asus users are safe 😌
Use group policy editor to stay on 23h2 for as long as you want. Its what I'm doing.
what is setup to do this?
Teach us my friend 😊
DEI has been destroying them.
They won't care until most people start pushing back as long as the majority quietly take what they give they won't care
They update mine, change a lot of config and I wasted a whole week to put "almost" everything back. Searching reg tricks and other thing to do so.
The best way to stop the upgrade is to turn on metered connection, that way you would still get security updates.
Like the Win 11 security update. Trust no one!
@@earthoid Without security updates, your PC can be compromised, you may as well be on Windows 7.
At this rate, the only time anyone will use Windows 11, is at work.
Does the "Select the target Feature Update version" group policy still work? If so that's a good way to have it stay with or max out at the version you prefer, whether Windows 10 or 11 (eg. Windows 11 23H2, or whatever).
My wife is from SA. I recognize that accent! Thanks for the video
Worse yet, since my SKU is Home, I can't use the registry trick to force Windows Update not to download 24H2 (I tried this a month ago but, it didn't have any effect due to my Windows 11 SKU being Home instead of Pro.)
Microsoft, just give back control of updates to people just like it was before the era of Windows as a Service. (Windows 10/11)
Maybe you can find a way of performing an in-place upgrade from Home to Pro.
In my option, Home editions of Windows are just a limited version of Windows in the event of being able to control certain aspects of Windows such a group policy settings where-as Pro edition are the full version of Windows giving you more control.
Use group policy editor to stay on 23h2. There are how to vids on yt.
GRC InControl?
@@ThatRandomToast Who the heck is GRC?
My laptop upgraded even though I had my updates turned off.
I am testing Fedora KDE Spin since 6 months.
No one at my home will notice that it's not windows. 😅
I regret not leaving my 8 TB of Steam games from the last decade installed, at least one of those games must have a known issue with 24H2.
24H2 broke the sound driver on my Mom's Asus laptop. Thanks Microsoft/Asus!
Ya I'm having sound issues with my fxsounds program with my audio amplifier, it's just mute until I disable the software and turn it back on
Another former quality computer maker, Acer, is in this category as well.
I'm on Windows 10 and it keeps asking to update to 11 23h2 for free....
I'd like them to try it on my Windows 10 i7-47700K rig, on which I have configured group policy to automatically reject any feature update beyond 22H2.
I'm using i7-4790K with 16GB of ram on Windows 11 21H2. Performance wise seems fine despite unsupported CPU
@@marcd1981 If you don't have a tutor, learn some of the basic vocabulary of Linux desktop as you watch guided videos from TH-camrs on the latest releases of the beginner-friendly versions. Chris at Explaining Computers is one of the best, but he only covers a few distros.
I tried to pause as suggested but windows messages says I have reached the maximum pause which is 4 days and that I can not pause again until I resume updates and install updates.
I click the "resume update" button and then very very quickly on the "pause updates for a week" button (you can click several times) and do this every 20-25 days. I do not know English, so I translated this text into Google translator (my version is windows 23H2 22631.4037)

I built my new PC last week and switched (mostly) to Linux, honestly, there were many issues and it took me a lot of time and some parts are still working, but I had a much worse time setting up Windows. It's quick, but the Windows just couldn't stop interrupting me every five minutes, "Oh, you need one drive to save your data." "Hey, don't use local account, use a Microsoft account." "Oh no, windows defender is disabled, you are in danger." "Hey, seems that your windows defender is still disabled." "Beware, you need to update your system immediately."
They just installed it on my PC. I will have it after the next reboot. Wish me luck! 😄
Thank you Sir! I just saw this update and used windows mini tool to hide it [i have win 11 23 h2 and offered win 24 h2 (KB5050009)]... I have already read so many articles and forums talking about problems created by upgrading from 23 h2 to 24H2 ! 24h2 is a disaster.... I am not going to install it, before the end of support for win 11 23h2!
Upgrading mine causes a reboot loop. Had to revert it via safe mode.
I'm still on 22h2 and my mom won't let me back up my computer to install another OS.
Windows is my favorite operating system as a Linux user. Endless entertainment. It is like watching those fail videos but for tech people.
How have they not been hit with a class action lawsuit yet or a damn anti trust suit????
because of Forced Arbitration, Forced Arbitration means you cannot sue, you cannot do a class action suit, and the supreme court in the US of A has actually decided that Forced Arbitration does not violate the 7th amendment.
Because America is run by corporations and, technocrats.
I need a Mac sibling for my Lenovo with XP Pro x64.
ive got the update on my windows update page but i click x every time
It's been sitting in the notice section for months now. I ignore it. Anyway, I gutted Windows long ago so nothing they push out will work. Thanx for the head's up though.
Get GRC InControl to block feature updates
You say you get the 'Blue screen of death', when does that normally happen for you, I mean, during what in relation to what you are doing on your PC? I used to have the same issue when running Win 11 but it disappeared when returning to Win 10.
When opening my screen recorder.
M$ faced a lawsuit back in 2017 about "update destroyed data"

The most efficient way is GRC InControl

If you have Windows Pro edition, use Group Policy
