    Stretched handbrake cable, knackered rear wheel bearing.. someone's been having fun with some handbrake turns! 😁

    Great series Johnny - smart to pick up an easy win like this one with lower financial risk involved and hopefully a healthy profit. Always great to see the level of attention you give these cars and the way in which you explain your approach is top notch. Looking forward to the next episode.

    Inspired thinking, buying a top of the range popular model car, with superb performance and economy. It will definately sell, so will certainly add to your "pot" to enable your journey to the top to continue. Can't help thinking this Mondeo will likely appeal to a buyer, who wants a decent level of performance, yet has a family to consider, this of course is why Ford introduced the model in the first place. Simples.

    • @JohnnyGetsCash
      @JohnnyGetsCash  ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly that, a fast, practical & economical vehicle. There’s bound to be a buyer for that, right?!

    Excellent again Johnny! 👌🏻😊👍🏻
    My first car was a ‘54’ plate Mondeo estate with this engine, it was ok (but it gave me a constant headache and I should of employed a full time mechanic with it)…😅
    Then went through to Volkswagen, Audi, Mercedes, BMW, Mitsubishi… and then now I have finally ended up with a Toyota estate, and I am over the moon, I am so so sooo very happy, I am absolutely in love with it! 🤩
    Chromatic Garage sold his (Lexus) Land Cruiser recently, because NOTHING broke on it during his ownership and he had enough of it as he likes to fix stuff, so he bought an old Porsche Cayenne (which gave him a big oil puddle underneath after the first night in the garage) - but he didn’t call it “a problem”, he calls it “the process”. 😁
    Good luck with the sale Johnny! 😉🤝🏻😎

    Great video, I am just surprised this car with 4 wheels didn't have only 3 wheels when you got it back to the workshop/yard. As for price my guess is you paid around 2 grand fixed it up for around £250, and will sell it for about £4.750. Hi Jonny, Had a Mondeo Titanium 2.2 TDCI.. I bought it for around £1200 Loved driving it and sadly sold it it after spending a load on MOT £300 and bought new tyres at an early stage..
    Never really been lucky at selling cars but got £1400 back, so no real profit.
    The one before it was a Mondeo Graphite 1.8 Lovely car also.. I bought that around £850 and sold £720..
    But last year due to poor health I decided to buy a much newer Convertible I own a few..
    This car I chose to buy at the time I thought was a bargain.£1300 Astra twin top 1.9 CDTI, In dark blue metallic with I assume half leather/cloth trim it had only done around 88k its now only 89.480k.
    Only last week I decided to get it started it was absolute pig to start but managed to get it started.
    Brief summary Had new MOT in February one advisory/passed.
    Had car valeted because interior went very mouldy over winter..
    Required a new battery and I then hit a massive problem My window switch stopped working which affected the roof and windows. But I bought a Vauxhall Spares 2nd hand unit and was chuffed to say it worked.
    I took it to my new local car wash on sea front which are not cheap and run by foreign guys I feel there pricing scheme is one I don't really like From £5 and charge £8.00.
    So my big problem in selling my car..????
    You sell a car to make money My thoughts entirely. My new Astra cost me roughly £1600.including purchase price.(short MOT)
    Its actually my best car out of 6 cars I currently own.
    On market place I've advertised it for a base price of £2195 its a tough call because one guy will pay £420 to break for spares and then £500 is a basic price for a car requiring work and then you get cars for between £695 -£1400 and others varied up to £3000.
    My only reason for buying it my old Astra Bertone I've owned for 7 years is actually trending in price a one owner Bertone 2.2 has been advertised £3000 -£4000.And my van/courier work seems to fail me, so it has now turned it into a hobby. Buy toy cars as a pension scheme for 8 years time like.
    But today you mentioned your POT so far £25k for ex amount of cars is not bad. And My real passion is to own my own home..
    My Theory may not be right, buy one car £300 sell for £650 but use that £300 ten or fifteen times each car value represents better amounts of cash. I fell in a trap of buying Classic cars I bought a Mini car for £3.25 1981 car and sold for £65 I then bought an Mg Montego EFI for £150 added some cash to that pot. sold £270. I bought a VW polo for £75 at auction including costs £130 and sold for £300.Mg Midget 1.5 £725 Sold £500 Dolomite sprint £500 sold for Zero and TR7 £295 Sold zero..
    When I look back over the 20 odd cars I owned from 2003 -2006 no real profit..
    Keep up the good work out of curiousity how much you pay for that unit..?

    • @JohnnyGetsCash
      @JohnnyGetsCash  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s certainly a tough business to be in and you will often feel like it’s one hit after the other but all I can say is if you enjoy it, keep at it. Pay attention to the cars that have done well for you and you know then try to repeat the formula. After a few months you will no doubt naturally find secondary vehicle types that work for you as well. Again; rinse and repeat. Best of luck 👍

It would be great to know what is the difference between the polishing pads and which type to use for each stage. I have a few different ones, soft sponge, ones with dimples etc, but never know which I should use at what stage. It had about 5 or 6 months MOT remaining however i always sell cars with a full 12 months MOT. Full disclosure - i put it in for MOT and it did fail due to the De-cat (and also a rubber boot on a lower joint), but i have now re-fitted the cat and sorted the lower joint and it will be getting retested this week! If the new owner wants the de-cat pipe when they take the car, it's theirs!

As ever great attention to detail. Hope you get a decent price, the car has plenty of life left in it yet. Cheers for the vlog & look forward to the next 1... The cable snapping in the window mech is very common with fords this age. Same thing has happened to both of my 2007 Fiesta's. Downside (or at least for me) is replacements are hard to find at breakers as everyone has bought them up so its a little over £100 for new ones (if they ever have them in stock), did you buy new? if so where did you get yours from?
    As for the Exhaust, Longlife is a custom exhaust maker, again I have one on my fiesta, installed it around 2009 and still going strong (as you would expect from stainless steel)
    Great looking car, friend had petrol version and it drinks fuel like no tomorrow but with how sorted after the ST24 and ST200 is at the moment I think the ST220 will be a future sort after car.
    Nice looking car and look forward to next episode, I bet you wont have this long it will sell fast (if it hasn't already)

    • @JohnnyGetsCash
      @JohnnyGetsCash  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's really interesting - i have never heard of these window regulators being a common fault area before but it seems that they are! The replacement i used in this episode was sourced from a breaker car, so it seems that i was lucky to find one in such good condition!
      Im confident that this one will go soon too, its a very impressive car (and is not a lot of money!)

    The polishing came up a treat
    How did you know what amount of cutting polish to use without going to far

    And what does the clay bar achieve
    Anyway great turn around from before and after 😊

    • @JohnnyGetsCash
      @JohnnyGetsCash  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! I’m by no means an expert or a pro detailer but in terms of which compound and how much to work it, I guess that just comes from years of experience and instinctively knowing what the clear coat needs. In terms of clay bar, that basically just helps to pull out any stubborn contaminants that have become stuck in the clear coat (the paint has to be as smooth as possible prior to machine polishing to achieve optimal results) 👍

    • @JohnnyGetsCash
      @JohnnyGetsCash  ปีที่แล้ว

    What about
    Taxes
    Your time
    Costs to register / move / tow cars.
    Other cost for other stuff you use in your garage.
    Imagine you have to buy everything to start with. I dont think you will buy supercar. At the end at most you can pay for everything you bought for this kind of job to start with.
    Dont take this wrong. I like these kind of jobs. Your attention to detail is fantastic. BUT We need to present reality of this.

    • @JohnnyGetsCash
      @JohnnyGetsCash  ปีที่แล้ว

      In response to this:
      1. I pay taxes each year based on my business performance.
      2. My time - As per what i said in this video: The whole Chop To The Top process is a hobby for me. I work on these cars in between the coming and going of main working stock.
      3. There are no costs to register or change ownership of cars in the UK.
      4. Costs relating to tools etc - These are tools and equipment i already have as this is what i do for a living (once again: this trading up process is my hobby).
      In a nutshell - this is not a ‘How-to’ guide. I am not saying anyone can do this process, so to breakdown every last penny it would cost to buy tools etc is absolutely irrelevant.
      This series is purely designed to entertain the viewers and document my process of trading up to a supercar.
      Finally - You say you don’t think i will be able to buy a supercar. Thank you. Comments like this are a huge motivation for me to keep working and prove that this is possible and i can do it!

      To be totally honest I’ve been messing about with this Chop To The Top project for a couple of years now but that’s because I only work on this project in between my day to day, paid work so sometimes there is months between selling one Chop To The Top car and buying the next!

    What about all the rust underneath? Did you treat and paint that? Looked pretty bad.

    • @JohnnyGetsCash
      @JohnnyGetsCash  ปีที่แล้ว

      There was some very light surface corrosion but nothing penetrative. Just a quick clean and protectant spray was all that was required

    Would that wheel bearing have warped the brake discs?

    • @JohnnyGetsCash
      @JohnnyGetsCash  ปีที่แล้ว

      Fortunately the disc appeared to be in fine condition regardless of that comical bearing!

    Have you got an end goal or “ideal” car to end up with?

    • @JohnnyGetsCash
      @JohnnyGetsCash  ปีที่แล้ว

      I do, it’s a car that I’ve wanted to own ever since I first laid eyes on one! I can’t reveal what it is yet but I’m sure a lot of people will agree that it’s quite a thing! I can’t wait to get there with this process and reveal it!

      @@JohnnyGetsCash I would, but it needs so much 😂. Steering rack, windscreen, funnily enough the same wheel bearing you did..... But that's easy. Plastic undertrays, wheel arch liners, front bumper, general body work, new exhaust..again mine blown in the same place. It's yours for £700 with 9 months MOT 😂. No massive jobs but without a ramp it's too much. Shame because it pulls like a train.

    I'd have thought that dent would have a significant impact on the resale value. Would the cost of having it fixed not have been worth it for the potential gain in value? Hey, I'm not a car dealer and you know what you're doing - still a lovely turn around and a classic case of it paying not to put all of your eggs in one basket...

      In fairness it wasn't horrendous, but it was worthy of note. I'd classify it as 'par for the course' on a vehicle of this age and its the sort of imperfection that a buyer for a car such as this won't lose sleep over, so it wasn't a priority!

    what about all the rusted out brake lines and seized calliper?

    • @JohnnyGetsCash
      @JohnnyGetsCash  ปีที่แล้ว

      The advisory on the brake lines was due to some underbody sealant being present / on the lines. No corrosion there and the seized calliper was a stuck slide pin which was sorted immediately.
