I rode my tvs star city 100cc via this road from Hassan to Mangalore many times in 2007,on that point of time the road was more bumpy and was full of mud.It was 2 and half hour continious journey from Hassan to Mangalore.
1 month back I rode to moodabidri on my hornet in the same way you have ridden. While going from Bangalore to moodabidri I took charmadi ghat way and the road was good but while coming back thinking that the cement road laid on shiradi ghat rod will be good I decided to take that route and the experience till I reach cement road was extremely bad and the dust and loose gravel on road made my riding experience even worse.
When you mentioned about the 2nd route towards Mangalore, via Madikeri from Bangalore, why do we need to take Chennarayapatna route, when the nearest one is through Mysore road itself, where one needs to travel till the Columbia Asia hospital signal on Mysore road, where they can take the ring road and bypass Mysore and travel towards Madikeri via Hunsur road
+The Kwacker The difference between chennarayapattana and mysuru road is just 10kms. Via chennarayapattana traffic is very less and can maintain a good speed, but in mysuru road it's little difficult to maintain high speed and more it's of like a outer ring road in Bengaluru, Considering from my personal experience I felt via chennarayapattana is best for me. BTW I have ridden on both the routes. Distance doesn't matter for me, if it is 10kms more with better roads then it's good and I ride there. Anyways it's up to riders choice 😉

Woaaahh, never knew that last year around same time shiradi was in such a bad condition, just drove last week and it was just splendid, only in 2-3 places the retaining walls have collapsed due to the heavy rains in August but otherwise just superb Charmadi on the other hand has been completely battered and no longer motorable Good video, please do have another ride on the new shiradi ghat, and I think 35 kms what you mentioned is the entire length of the ghat, actually only around 14-16 kms were bad and the same is now concreted By using latest 3 layer geo textile concrete technology which does not allow water to seep in and cause damage

Even i went through the same route.. trip was from suratkal to sakleshpura.. in pulsar 150...same time... the road was same.. it was so disgusting that i had decided not to go further...but later i moved on.. in one place i had lost control to my brakes because of lots of soil deposit n i was about to fall down.. the people who are in the bus who was looking at me was shouting hey hey hey.. but finally i was safe..

Me and my wife are planning to go by car and I know charmudi ghat pretty well since I am a native of Chikmagalur. I am a little worried because I am going by car and as you know charmudi has crazy narrow roads. Please let me know.
Hi, sorry for late reply. Right now shiradi ghat is closed, it may open after 2 to 3 months with new concrete road. Till then we need to take alternatives.
+vinay Naik Till Sakleshpura road conditions is almost same apart from cement road, after Sakleshpura road is under construction for widening, this is not a problem at day time.

Shiradi ghat alli offroad madobadlu, gudda dalli offroad madthene.. :D Dulu adru kammi eratte.. XD BTW Same reason i never take shiradi ghat while riding to mangalore. Too much traffic and bad roads all round the year. :/
