    I looooove linen towels! They are so wonderful! At first they usually are quite rough, but they become softer with use (which you probably already know), I feel like those towels make a wonderful massage for face and body. I have a bought big towel and have woven a face or hands towel and one is still in the works, but I'm not sure if I will have enough linen for it.
    I'm contemplating crocheting a shower scrubbie or soap saver out of linen too, but haven't gotten around to it yet.
    Otherwise they make great shawls and, I have linen shorts too. And a summer bag out of linen works great too!

      So many good ideas! I do think maybe some pretty linen hand towels for our baths would be nice. Great ideas here! Thank you.

    Great start!!! Cheviot was the first sheep fleece I ever processed BUT the sweet sheep it came from had been stressed and it was a mess - lots of breakage, staining, VM and a short staple length. I did persevere and managed to spin some nice yarn. This makes me want to spin a better quality Cheviot! Hugs and kisses to Luther. I love him!

    • @FiberLoveDiary
      @FiberLoveDiary  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The first Cheviot fleece I had had a MUCH shorter staple too, and it was so full of VM I flicked the entire thing LOL. I will pass on the hugs to Luther. He's right next to me!

    I love this! When I win the lottery or retire, I will have the time to do all these cool things (I already have 2 breed sampler packs waiting!) For the linen, it would be great for towels or washcloths (or spa cloths if you want to be fancy) It gets softer over time, and it's antibacterial!

    • @FiberLoveDiary
      @FiberLoveDiary  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't know it was antibacterial. Sounds like it would make nice towels and spa cloths. I do love doing those waffle weave cloths ❤️❤️

    You are so dang consistent. I could watch you spin all day. Would you do a slow mo of how you wrap your bracelet? Life is so unfair! I want a drum carder so bad l even ordered diy plans for my poor husband to try. AND you are sporting two. What a Blessed girl. 😘

I am a blessed girl, but keep an eye out for one that someone bought, barely used and then decided to sell. They are out there, and you get get a crazy great deal that way!

    I'm a knitter who just got my first spinning wheel and feel so new that I'm just doing merino slivers/braids til I can get used to things, but this is so neat to know could be an option in the future. I'm NOT a methodical person, so seeing someone model an organized way to handle something is so helpful. I also love that you'll dye it all and make notes from there...on a whim I dyed some yarn with onion skins & black beans with my kids this past summer and it was really fun, but did I take notes...? Ha.

    • @FiberLoveDiary
      @FiberLoveDiary  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am the most unmethodical person you could ever know most of the time, so even getting this orderly is a struggle for me. I never, ever take notes when dyeing, but I will take a few on how the dyes affect these different fibers when I get that far. It will be spring by then!

  • @73lmargaret
    @73lmargaret 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    OMG all the yarn!!! You can both knit and weave with all that! I love the colors and I am very curious about it. I also love the breed study you are doing. That looks less overwhelming than getting a raw fleece of everything out there. I wish I lived next door to you! So much fun!

    • @FiberLoveDiary
      @FiberLoveDiary  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I sure wish I had fiber friends right next door! That would almost be too good! The first breed study I did had just two ounce batches of raw fleece from 70 breeds. It was still overwhelming, but I learned a lot.

    I also spun the cheviot and charoliuos ( sorry about spelling) I had the same comments you did. The French breed was soft and elastic when spun woolen. The Cheviot had what I called guard hairs and was a little “ rustic”. But when i knitted a sample I really liked the result of the cheviot. I don’t really do Facebook but will try to post some pictures on Instagram.

    I did a fibre study last year, and while I had no particular feelings about the Cheviot, the charolais was one of my favourites. I spun all mine straight from the top it came in, and my charolais was just as bouncy and springy as yours. Very excited to see what you think of the rest of the breeds.

    • @FiberLoveDiary
      @FiberLoveDiary  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did a whole fleece a while back, but the staple was shorter, and it was a bit springier than what I had for this. I wonder if it is partly because of the commercial processing. I think that kind of stretches some of the life out of some fibers.

    I live in the UK and as far I recall Cheviot wool was used for suiting because it's rough and very hard wearing, so yes not exactly ideal wool for a sweater to wear next to the skin.. Harris Tweed is made from Cheviot wool.

    • @FiberLoveDiary
      @FiberLoveDiary  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That makes a lot of sense with my experience. I'm a little surprised they didn't mention Harris tweed in the book. That seems like a really good point of comparison so many people could use.

    • @FiberLoveDiary
