Hey greetings from Germany my friend. I have a question, is it necessary to pin the crankshaft when unscrewing the gear from the crankshaft? So does this change the timing?
The timing of the engine does not change. The timing belt is removed, yes, but the crank pulley is oriented by a flat on the end of the crankshaft. Once this oil pump belt is replaced and timing belt is put back on, it is wise to ensure the engine is timed and tensioned correctly. Rotate the engine to TDC, put the crank, cam and fuel pump timing pins in, remove pins, check timing belt tension. Then rotate of the engine by hand 2-3 times, re-check timing and tension.
