  • This video continues last week’s video, where I shared my job-hunting process so far. My goal with creating this video is to show you what truly happens when you’re job hunting and what these engineering interviews are like.
    Part 1: • What Job Hunting in En... (if you missed it!)
    There tend to be toxic people in engineering that like to gatekeep everything, so I’m trying to change that by sharing what I wish I knew. Timestamps are as follows:

I believe that at the end of this process you will be better of for it and be grateful to have gone through a novel experience that makes your life more interesting.
    Its funny how quickly circumstances can change. I remember watching your day in a life videos a few months ago and being inspired to work harder while I was looking for an engineering job. Alhumdullilah I have been blessed with a job now that I'm very happy with and that I couldn't imagine landing a few weeks ago but now YOU are on the job hunt. Life is fickle like that.
    I know regardless of what happens you are destined for great things insh'Allah. Keep up the great work not just for yourself but for the millions you inspire now and in the future!

Yes, you did make some mistakes in your equations which likely resulted in your not being selected for one or more of the jobs; but your engineering knowledge and ability to recall it are absolutely amazing. Those were some tough questions, and I don't know how you kept your confidence up after receiving all those rejections. However, you are showing us that persistence is key and to never lose confidence in yourself and your undeniable worth. Love these videos. As a (mechanical) design engineer who went through a bunch of interviews in a similarly competitive area one year ago, thanks for showing this. Good luck with the design challenge, interested to see more as this progresses.
    Some thoughts from someone who is worse at interviewing: for the tell me about yourself I'd be interested to hear more than just what's on your resume (maybe you already do this, it's probably good practice though since a lot of busy engineers dont have time to even read resumes before the interview). Make it catchy, elevator pitch.
    For the design questions, going beyond the equations and thinking outside of the box is another option. Like a tapered beam/rod to reduce the weight cantilevered, in turn reducing the weight load applied at the center of mass and thus the deflection. Or a cable that attaches from the wall to the end of the beam or a gusset on the bottom. Even using coding to create an algo. Something to make you stand out from just looking up an equation and saying things need to go up or down. Stress strain curves for aluminum versus steel could also get into different types of each (look at 7075-T6 Al vs mild steel). The answer is usually "it depends", depends on alloy, heat treat, type.

    I wonder how explicitly the company mentioned about Injection molding knowledge in their JD to ask you such detailed questions about the process. If they were detailed enough then it may be a fair rejection. But if they had some generic BS in their JD and rejected you based on 'your lack of IM knowledge', the hiring manager should be questioned on why he wasted both your and the company's time. I've been in your situation soooo many times when so late in an interview process I get to know they're looking from some very specific experience/skills that was never mentioned in the JD.

    • @TamerShaheen
      @TamerShaheen  ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe the JD mentioned basic knowledge of design for injection molding which I had, but maybe they were interviewing someone who had more knowledge on that subject so they hired them instead

    • @XzzVttll
      @XzzVttll ปีที่แล้ว

      its not detailed. its basic, starting stuff for injection moldings. I am enclosure designer so i know that. they will not mention upper skills in the JD because they dont want from you to come prepared. they want to know what you know exactly, not what you learned 5 min ago preparing for interview.

    Could you elaborate more on the injection moulding questions that you were not able to answer? Also, the convection coefficient h in heat transfer is not a material property, right? Correct me if I am wrong!
    Thanks for the videos !!

    Studying Mechanical Engineering in the UK, and about to graduate in a couple of months. Not sure whether to persue a Masters or go for a graduate position, I don't have any internship experience so this makes me even more nervous about job hunting. insha'Allah you'll land a job soon brother.

    Isn't power= (current)^2 * resistance as opposed to (current)^2/resistance?

    You think putting on a polo or something if it's a teams/zoom call would help? Just a thought/tip that might look a little more professional then a hoodie. Also awesome videos they're really helpful I'm trying to move from a project engineering job of 2 years to a Mechanical Design engineer role and it is TOUGH!!!

    Hi tamer ... i am a 5th year mechanical engineer student
    Can you make us a video about your graduation project?
    And another video about the first things to do and thinks about for the newly graduated students
    And the most important stuff and software we should learn as a mechanical (design and manufacture engineer)
    Love your videos ❤🇸🇾

    I would say for attachment question, conditions of attachment (load and temperature conditions) and permanence of attachment. How long the attachment needs last, or whether it needs to be detached etc.
    Love your vids BTW currently currently in my first year of ME

    Watching his videos keeps me going, tbh. However, I am graduating from engineering in a few months and I have no clue what’s next.

    Hi, I'm in second year mechanical engineering. I've done many little side projects, from 3d prints to custom circuitry in rebuilt nerf guns, but I have no work experience and am struggling desperately to find a job for this coming summer. I've applied to 100+ internships and have yet to hear back from anyone regarding interviews or further offers. I was wondering if there was anything I was missing, or what you did to get your first internship. I'm also wondering if applying now is considered too early for a may position, and what time I should be applying / what time I should be panicking that I'll be jobless for the summer
