no part of Sabah ever under sulu or spain rules, 1865-1877 is wrong

@@gfxminer4809The map does show mostly nominal claims to territories, with borders following water basins.
However, the Sulus and by extension the Spanish did have some influence over Sabah, though maybe not as large as they claimed. Otherwise, there wouldn't have been a need for the 1878 Agreement with the Sulu or the Madrid Protocol of 1885.

@@Solmatino there is no such thing as sulu influence in Sabah, it is made up story, the people in Sabah do not in any shape or form ever surrender to sulu rules, on the other hand, the sulu have to adhere to local native people rules, like suluk cannot setup their settlement on the mainland of Sabah, that is why they do not have villages on the mainlaind of Sabah, their settlement is mostly on the nearby island not in the mainland of Sabah

Is it okay if I ask you for some reading material? Most of the sources I read generally acknowledge some influence, it'd be interesting to read through one that says otherwise.

@@Solmatino it is the writer assumption only, mostly the writer not even Sabahan who never experience living with suluk people, have no way to cross check whatever the assumption they come up with, some of it they simply just copying other people writing which again do not reflect the real situation here, especially if you read malayan writer they will try to give depiction that supposely sulu sultanate rule Sabah in the past, which totally wrong and have never happen at all, not even any influence anywhere here in Sabah in the past, they don't even dare come to Sabah mainland
some of the writer will wrongly assume that sulu sultanate pirate activity here as supposedly "influence" which is not at all

The real owner of Sabah is the Sultanate of Sulu in the Philippines. The natives there are Suluk. It's in the history. Those Malaysian claiming the sabah belongs to Malaysia are immigrants in Sabah. Either chinese malaysian. Please return the land to the real owner. Malaysia only pay rent to Sulu. When the owner needs the land from the renter. Legaly renter should renter it to the owner. Malaysia pay rent to Sulu Philippines until 2013 and decided to stop paying rent and claiming the land that is not belong to them

Piracy and diseases caused them to move further inland and their numbers dwindle compared to west coast Sabahan. To do businesses here, the sulus pay taxes and sometimes provides slaves for disposal to tribes here.
