I have this urban fantasy that I loved reading called Tala Prophecy Series by Tia Silverthorne Bach which has Chasing Memories, Chasing Shadows, Chasing Forgiveness, Chasing Destiny, and Chasing Eternity. Then I know I can not really say much on this series because I only read the prequels to them and that is Nightshade series by Andrea Cremer. I read Rift and Rise which is the prequel Duology and want to continue with Nightshade soon!
Hahahahaha, I’m such a loser with my love for Fireborne, but I love it so much! Also, so many of these sound so good :D Poison Study is one we should definitely add to our buddy read list...scratch that, we should basically add all of these to the list 😆 except Earthsea; I didn’t love Earthsea 🤣
Incoming (positive) rant. I just finished the third book in The Mirror Visitor (series for A Winter's Promise) and I LOVE it. With all of my soul and being. The characters are sooo well done and complex. At the end of the first book there's characters that you're genuinely not sure if you're supposed to like them or not. The story just keeps getting good as you keep reading. I absolutely love the complexity of Ophelia and Thorn's relationship (not saying romantic, their interactions in general). I also love how, especially in the first two books, there's a lot of politics going on but our main character comes from a place without that, so you can learn it all with the character. It's not like she ever masters it either, she's always having to make uncertain decisions that might not work out for her. You also get to learn more about the lore and fantasy of this world in books 2 and 3. It's just absolutely fantastic and I'm literally dying waiting for the fourth and final book to be translated into English.
The Thief is so good! The last book is coming out in October. It has an unreliable narrator, so it gets even better on reread when you can see all the hints throughout the book.
I am so excited for The Mirror Visitor quartet 😍 I have ordered all 3 books and I am planning to read them in November-December for the wintery mood ☃️
The Songs of Pellinor by Alison Croggon is my favorite underrated series of all time! it's four books, and it's got literally everything you could ever want in fantasy. I've genuinely never heard another person talk about them!!
I’ve read the Ash Princess trilogy and I liked it a lot. But A Winter’s Promise and its sequel (the third book was just released in English and I’m still waiting for my copy) are absolutely brilliant. Can’t recommend them enough, you absolutely must read them. They’re like nothing else I’ve read.
It has been awhile since I've read it - but what I remember of it was that The Thief was such a good book. I didn't know it was part of a series - going to have to pick it up again.
Just keep on making my TBR grow! LOL Poison study sounds fantastic, and Vish won't stop talking about it so I need to pick it up! ASh Princess is SO much fun! I need to read the 2nd and 3rd books but it is a fun series! I have Fireborn sitting on my shelf waiting to be read soon!
FYI the thief is on sale on kindle right now. $2.99. You can get each of the first 5 books on kindle for 2.99 right now. I already owned the first one and picked up through book 5. Thanks for sharing these lists. Just adding to my wishlist and TBR like a crazy person! amy
I saw Poison Study in the preview clip on this video and that was the 100000% deciding factor in watching this even though i was just checking updates and not planning on watching anything just yet. I LOVE the Study Series! I love the Chronicles of Ixia which is the extended series part of the series (9 total books and a 6 short stories If I remember correctly) Maria V Snyder's Books are one of the only books that I collect multiple editions of and is my go to book gift for my friends. I will be checking out the channel you recommended because I've only seen it on a few bookshelves of Booktubers but I've only heard it mentioned a few times in all the videos I've watched and I think only two of them had actually read the book. I would love to follow more Study fans! That all said as much as I love the series, I know it's not everyone's favorite and for those who have specific trigger warnings they watch out for I don't recommend this to many.
Also, I know the books are getting new covers on the ebooks, for those who read that way. There might be a sale at time point too. I'm not a fan of the new covers. I understand the relations to the books but I don't think it represents the books well. So please don't judge the book by the cover. Read the first chapter in the synopsis on amazon and let that help you decide.
Akarnae is soo fantastic, one of the best series I’ve ever read. It’s a really endearing series but it has everything you want in it. Love listening to you talk about these books! 💕
Great video as always, filled with YA books I might be forced to read if I failed my challenge. Have you ever noticed how different YA covers seem to be than adult fantasy books? There, to me, seems to be a certain...aesthetic...that YA books have. I dunno. I heard about Earthsea all the time when I first started reading fantasy, but I never picked up any of the books.
Yes they definitely have a very different aesthetic! I also realized three covers on my list had girls with their backs facing us walking 🤣 so I guess that’s a thing!
One of my favourite series is the Green Rider series by Kristen Britain. The first one is very much like The Hobbit, but after that it develops a more unique plot. The only reason I picked the first one up was because I wanted fantasy with horses as opposed to romance... lol.
Another one that should be on there is The Wicked Lovely series by Marissa Marr. It's a bit older but she just came out with a prequal and if you like Acotar, you'll like those!
As with adult, most of my faves are pretty underrated. I think the best, and most underrated are: The Timekeeper trilogy by Tara Sim. An alternate universe steampunk fantasy M/M romance set in a Victorian London where time is controlled by magic clock towers. When the clock towers break, time breaks, and when the clocks stop completely, time in their area stops and it gets sealed off from the rest of the world. It follows a young clock mechanic - someone who can see and repair the strands of time - called Danny Hart, whose dad is trapped in a town where time has stopped. He wants to be assigned to the mission to build a new clock tower and free the stopped town, which has never been attempted before. Unfortunately he is suffering from PTSD after a pretty terrible accident, and the lead mechanic is hesitant to give him any serious responsibilities. So he is assigned to the clock tower in Enfield, where he meets a time spirit, and things progress from there. Meanwhile, terrorists are bombing the clock towers and stopping time. The first book is a very cute and fluffy romance, for the most part (and Danny and his love interest are my favourite book romance of all time), but the second book blows the plot and world wide open, and it becomes a super deep, intricate, dark and serious story. The romance is still adorable though. My favourite book of all time is Wonders of the Invisible World by Christopher Barzak. It's an urban fantasy about a boy called Aidan Lockwood growing up in the small, sleepy town of Temperance, Ohio. Aidan is just sort of drifting through life. He has no friends, or any real hobbies or interests or ambitions. Then his best childhood friend, Jarrod, returns to Temperance after years away, and starts talking about things that Aidan doesn't remember, but definitely should, such as the strange man in the black suit that only he could see. They decide to recover Aidan's memories and along the way they discover the history of the Lockwood family. I'd also recommend The Rules by F. T. Lukens. Very different to my previous recs. The Rules is an urban fantasy M/M romance about a boy called Bridger Whitt, who, in an attempt to get a job, accidentally becomes the apprentice of a wizard who mediates between the magical and non-magical worlds. He has to learn how to mediate, whilst also dealing with a crush on his neighbour, a hot football player named Leo. Much more light-hearted than my other recs, very comedic, but really nails the emotional beats where it needs to. I would say it's in the same vein as Carry On.
@@JessieMaeBooks You're welcome! Forgot to mention, since Goodreads search function is terrible, and "The Rules" might not get any results, the first book is called The Rules and Regulations for Mediating Myths & Magic. It's a duology.
Highly recommend the Mirror Visitor Quartet. Just a note though: It is fully finished in french but the english translation has only gone up to the 3rd which was just released. So there is a bit of a lag there.
I loved Poison Study & Fireborne. My favorite underrated YA fantasy are Renegades by Marissa Meyer, Steel & Stone series by Annette Marie, & Tainted Accords series by Kelly St. Clare
I read all four books of The Mirror Visitor series in French, the first two are fabulous, I've read them three times each. The last two went a lot more on the esoteric side of the story and lost me a bit but the quartet is definitely worth a read anyway! I think the English synopsis is a little misleading though, it's not heavily time-related but the arcs all have their own atmosphere and people with different abilities (reading the past of an object by touching it, creating illusions, manipulating space, etc...).
My favourite book series is definitely rarely talked about - the Obernewtyn Chronicles by Isobelle Carmody. It's Australian, and while I'm British and so know for sure that it has been released here and in the US, the only time I ever see anyone online talking about it they're Australian. It's actually sci-fi but with fantasy elements and more of a fantasy 'feel' to it. The first book was published in the 80s, the final one in 2015 - the author definitely improved and changed her style over that time, and the books got longer and longer! (In the US/UK editions they actually split some of the longer books into two.) I started reading it when I was about 10 (24 years ago!), but the series gets more mature as it goes on (think Harry Potter). You mentioned in your previous video that you like the tropes of the chosen one, animal companions, prophecy and a looming war... it has all of those, but in an unusual way.
I finally read all this series last year (I had read the first 4 in school) and they are good, but the last book is over 1000 pages or 40 hours. I do t think it needed to be this long, but by then I was really attached to all the characters so... good and bad
@@danielleoliver1734 Did you read the US/UK editions? In the original Australian versions the last 3 books are all really long, but they divided 2 of them into 2 books each for the US/UK versions. From a quick Google they don't seem to have done that for the final book, which surprised me. I have the Australian versions, imported because I was too impatient to wait for them to come out in the UK!
The Thief has also been on my radar for ages. I have been reading A Winter’s Promise very, very slowly in French. I think I’d give it 4 stars but I wish I’d read it quicker, I’ve just struggled with needing to google a lot of the descriptive, flowery vocabulary.
Jessie Mae A lot of my problems were due to French being my second language and I just don’t know all the descriptive words. It’s the sort of words that I know in English but probably use once a year
I have read children of blood and children of virtue and vengeance eariler this year. I liked both of them but the first one is so much better. I also have the first three books of the poison study and I really want to read them to I just keep putting it off
I consider myself sooo lucky to be able to read The Mirror Visitors Series in German. The final book was published in May and it broke my heart in the best way possible 😭
Oh dear, I'm trying to finally catch up with some more popular fantasy series and now I want to check out some of these too...the struggle of not knowing where to start! :-) One of my favourite YA fantasy that I don't see mentioned a lot on booktub is the Eon/a duology by Alison Goodman. Such an interesting asian-inspired world with a very good lgbtq representation for its time. Hope to see more videos with this kind of content from you!
It's borderline middle-grade, but Patricia C Wrede's Enchanted Forest Chronicles is so very good, it's HILARIOUS and creative and full of lovable characters. And Diane Duane's So You Want To Be a Wizard, though that's almost more sci-fi than fantasy, and it is GOOD middle-grade/YA sci-fi. Extremely mind-bendy. Vivian vande Velde's Heir Apparent is a classic in my family but I don't see it much elsewhere. It's a...VR fantasy? Very clever and fun.
@@JessieMaeBooks huzzah! In addition I don't know if you'd be interested in self-pub books, but EM Holloway's Sum of its Parts series is one of my favorites. Werewolves, found families, and a central asexual relationship :')
I read the Earthsea books as a teen and loved them. Would also recommend Ender's Game (possibly my favourite sci-fi of all time and much, much better than the movie) and the Howl's Moving Castle by Dianna Wynne Jones (more middle-grade, but I love all her books even as an adult). Maybe you could do a 'books that are better than the movie' video?
Enders Game was amazing. I also quite enjoyed the first sequel Speaker For The Dead. 👍 Unfortunately Orson Scott Card is a bit of a shitty person. But one needs to seperate the art from the artist i feel! 👍
Just checked out her channel and subsribed to it. Thank you for suggesting her I really appreciate channel which talk about unique books not main stream YA Books. At least she is not rude.
Another really underrated YA series is Marjet of Monsters by Rebecca Shaeffer! It talks about a girl whose parents are traffickers of body-parts in the black market, the twist is that this market sells parts of supernatural creatures only. The writing is really smooth and the MC is amazing!
the mirror visitor quartet is reaaally good. i've read them all in italian and it's one of my favorite book series. i think the first two books are more beautiful than the last two, but it's definetely worth it. i'm surprised you haven't heard of that, i thought it was well-known. btw, nice video :)
I whole-heartedly reccomend "A Touch Of Gold" by Annie Sullivan! If you like pirates and adventure, mixed with romance, this is the book for you! One of my recent favs. 😁
Ash Princess was really good in the context of YA. I read the whole trilogy and it was pretty addictive. I really need to read Fireborne. I want to read it too. It does sound so amazing!
Hey, i got to read first 4 chapters from an epic fantasy book that will be released next year(January i think). It's about which hunt and the trying to stop the day light from vanish completely. the magic system is very cool: emotions based with rules. And characters are very engaging. Although i am biased (the author is from the same country that i am from) i think the book is gonna be fantastic just by the little that i read. Would you like to get these first 4 chapters to read ?
Thank you for posting these videos, Jessie. There are some great titles on your list which I shall check out hopefully in the not too distant future 😅🤗
Thank you Jessie for the shout out and yes Poison Study is so good! (Allen TM). I actually thought children of blood and bone was good but quickly DNFed the second book it just had a drastic tone change and i didn’t like it at all sadly.
I just listened to Children of Blood and Bone and I liked it but I think I might not have if I read it physically. The book is just so long and I don’t tend to absolutely love ya fantasy but I still really liked the worldbuilding and the magic system
Great video! I was meaning to ask you, but have you read City of Stairs by Robert Jackson Bennett? I am thinking about trying it out, but haven't heard almost anyone talking about it. I would love to know if someone knows if it is worth reading it. I did read Ash Princess, but I did not like the pacing, the ending and how the final battle scene was told. It is good, but not that great for my taste. However, it is a well loved book. Looking forward for other recommendations on both YA and adult fantasy books!
@@JessieMaeBooks I am also excited and just waiting for my copies to get here... Another underrated YA fantasy book that I remembered is The Kingdom on Fire trilogy. I am waiting for the third book to arrive, but it is pretty great so far!
I really think that Bloodleaf by Crystal Smith deserves a spot on the list of underrated YA series. It’s SO good but I have never seen anyone on here talk about it and honestly its a shame 🙈
There are actually 3 trilogies that have the characters from the first poison study trilogy. There is the first that starts with poison study. Then the glass series which (starts with storm glass) is best to read before the last poison study trilogy (starts with shadow study) even though the glass series is a companion series.
I liked Poison Study, 3stars. Hated Children of Blood and Bone and the sequel, both 1 star! Ash Princess was 1 star, and the next 2 I didn't like. Fireborne was 1 star lol. Oh yeah, have you read anything by Lauren James? Her Next Together series is awesome! I gave both books 5 stars. It's Sci-Fi historical fantasy. I also loved Anna Dressed in Blood! The second one not so much :D
I wannted to read Children of blood and bone, but I also heard some bad reviews about the sequel so now, I am not so sure about it, but the it still sounds compelling. 😃😁
I ám curious if you will like Earthsea I didn't like it. The writing was weird for me and I didn't care about the characters só I only read the forest book.
I saw the first book everywhere when it first came out!! But then it kinda died down when the sequel came out so I haven’t seen people talk about it in a while, but I definitely want to try the first one still! 😍
Jessie Mae yeah, apparently the book didn’t live up to the hype :( it had the potential to be the next big thing™️ with all that promo... hopefully the series redeems itself with the next book tho! (I think it’ll be the finale?)
Iving Zuniga yes!! I may wait to read it until the final book so I can read the complete series back to back if I end up enjoying and hopefully that third book is amazing 🤩
I don't really agree with this list. A few of the books are really hyped like ash princes, children of blood and bone, a winters promise etc. also those have a high rating on goodreads and you see a lot of bookstagrammers talk about these books
I polled my audience and asked them what their favorite books are that they wish more people talked about and shared them here! I love trying to find recommendations from subscribers!

I'm waiting for the final book to be translated in my language and I'm sooo excited but at the same time scared of what will happen🙈
Ooooh!! Totally adding to my list 🤩
Great list, I haven't heard of most of these! Poison study sounds like something I'm going to have to see if my library carries.
Yes so many people LOVE that series!! 😍
Gonna be a good reference video for years to come. You do a service Jessie
Aww thank you Michael!!! 😄
Oh yay!!! Adding both of these to the TBR 😄
Loved Enders Game!!! 🤩 I can definitely do that video! 😄
Enders Game was amazing. I also quite enjoyed the first sequel Speaker For The Dead. 👍
Unfortunately Orson Scott Card is a bit of a shitty person. But one needs to seperate the art from the artist i feel! 👍
I missed ur so many videos despite getting notifications 😅 I had to litrelly pause my dinner for this video. Love ur energy 🙏
Aw thank you so much!!! 😍
Looking forward for your videos 👏👏
Just checked out her channel and subsribed to it. Thank you for suggesting her I really appreciate channel which talk about unique books not main stream YA Books. At least she is not rude.
And I highly recommend monstrous beauty by Elizabeth fama. A bitter sweet story with killer mermaids, ghosts and curses
Ooooh definitely adding to the list! Thank you!
Tamora Pierce’s ‘Beka Cooper’ Trilogy!
Another really underrated YA series is Marjet of Monsters by Rebecca Shaeffer! It talks about a girl whose parents are traffickers of body-parts in the black market, the twist is that this market sells parts of supernatural creatures only. The writing is really smooth and the MC is amazing!
Ooooh adding to my radar 😍
the mirror visitor quartet is reaaally good. i've read them all in italian and it's one of my favorite book series. i think the first two books are more beautiful than the last two, but it's definetely worth it. i'm surprised you haven't heard of that, i thought it was well-known. btw, nice video :)
I’d heard only a little bit about it before, but it sounds soooo magical!! I really need to read it now! 😍
Thanks for the shout out, you're the best! I'm so glad you liked the decade video, it was so much fun for me 😁
Omg of course, it was such a fantastic video!! 🤩
Oooh! Poison Study and The Ash Princess trilogy strongly appeal to me! 💕
Woohoo! So glad you found some new books to check out! 😍
I whole-heartedly reccomend "A Touch Of Gold" by Annie Sullivan! If you like pirates and adventure, mixed with romance, this is the book for you! One of my recent favs. 😁
Anna Dressed in Blood sounds like a good one! Might be a good step into horror, since I haven’t read any horror at all 😅
The spirit sniffing cat is what hooked me haha 🤩😻
Ash Princess was really good in the context of YA. I read the whole trilogy and it was pretty addictive.
I really need to read Fireborne. I want to read it too. It does sound so amazing!
Sometimes I’m in the mood for just a fun and addictive read haha definitely want to pick up Ash Princess!
I’m so glad you enjoyed it Lauren! Thanks so much!! 😄
🤗🤗🤗
One of the underrated fantasy series that I know would be the Dark Divine Trilogy by Bree Despain. 📚
I love Poison Study!!
Thank you Jessie for the shout out and yes Poison Study is so good! (Allen TM). I actually thought children of blood and bone was good but quickly DNFed the second book it just had a drastic tone change and i didn’t like it at all sadly.
Of course!!! You’ve made me want to read poison study so bad!
I enjoyed Through the mirrors series by Christelle Dabos❤ Especially first 2 books❤ Special atmosphere and lots of unique characters👍
Such a good video. So refreshing to see new recommendations. Will definitely be checking a few of these out.
Aw thank you!! So glad you enjoyed it! 😄❤️
This is such a great series. I love hearing about new books and several of these sound very promising. Thanks for the recommendations. 😀
Yay! I’m so glad you enjoy it! ❤️
I just listened to Children of Blood and Bone and I liked it but I think I might not have if I read it physically. The book is just so long and I don’t tend to absolutely love ya fantasy but I still really liked the worldbuilding and the magic system
Oooh interesting!! I’ve heard the world building is great!
I read Fireborne just this week - it was brilliant, really hard to put down when I had to work!
Ahhh I can’t wait to read it! 🤩
@@JessieMaeBooks Just be prepared, it gets quite emotional at times!!
Congrats on 8k Jessie! I don't read any YA to be honest but maybe some are worth checking out that you all in Discord like so much.
Thank you Alex!! And thank you for watching despite not reading YA haha you’re awesome
Love the video! I found a few new books to add to my TBR.
Thank you so much Sue!! So glad you enjoyed! 😍
I haven’t read City of Stairs yet but I’m going to be reading it in January and I’m so excited about it!! 🤩
@@JessieMaeBooks I am also excited and just waiting for my copies to get here... Another underrated YA fantasy book that I remembered is The Kingdom on Fire trilogy. I am waiting for the third book to arrive, but it is pretty great so far!
Awesome video. I just bought quite a few of the ones you pointed out.
Ahh yay!!! Which ones did you pick up?? 😍❤️
My TBR is already neverending and it keeps growing with every new video you post! Haha! :)
Haha!! I would say sorry, buuuttt... I’m also glad you’re finding recs 😂😉
@@JessieMaeBooks I'm not sorry! My husband might be though since he has to keep buying me new shelves! :)
Stacy McCaskill-Lilja HAHA I love that!!! ❤️
I loved Ash Princess!
Happy Birthday!!!!🎈🎂🎊🎉🎁
Thank you Mom!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
This is so great. Can't wait for more
I havent read the second book of Anna Dressed in Blood
I really think that Bloodleaf by Crystal Smith deserves a spot on the list of underrated YA series. It’s SO good but I have never seen anyone on here talk about it and honestly its a shame 🙈
Oooh another one to add to my list 😍
I'll have to let you tell me how these are. YA and I don't usually get along together very well..lol
Haha thank you for watching Lezlie even when you don’t read YA ❤️❤️❤️
@@JessieMaeBooks you never know, you might talk me into one....one day!
Ive been meaning to pick up a winters promise, all the fan art is so cute and gives me dramione vibes which is my otp 🥴😂
Ahh now I need to go look up fan art for it 😍
OMG A WINTER'S PROMISE I LOVE IT SO MUCH, GO READ IT NOW IF YOU HAVEN'T
Just finished The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. If you liked the movie Knives Out even just a little bit, you need to read it! So good! 😆
Oooh I loved that movie! Definitely need to check that out!
Happy Birthday!!
Thank you so much!!! 😄
There’s this other YA Fantasy Series You Should Definitely Check Out is The Ravenspire Series By C.J Redwine Jessie It’s Fantastic 📚😊
Entwined is soo good
Recommendation: Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir
I’m seeing this everywhere right now😍😍 it’s on my list to pick up next year and I’m very excited about it!
found some books, from this list, that i'll be reading.
I’m so glad to hear it! 😍❤️
I had no idea poison study had so many books! I read it as a trilogy and remember being fine with the ending. Was it originally written that way?
I’m not sure!! It may have been one of those that was originally a trilogy and got another trilogy added on!
There are actually 3 trilogies that have the characters from the first poison study trilogy. There is the first that starts with poison study. Then the glass series which (starts with storm glass) is best to read before the last poison study trilogy (starts with shadow study) even though the glass series is a companion series.
Adding everything to my wishlist 😂
🤣🤣🤣 yes!!!
Janco and Ari's friendship in Poison Study Series is #friendshipgoals
I love awesome friendships in books!! 😍
Valek, Janco and Ari’s friendship is like Rhysand, Cassian and Azriel’s friendship
@@bookswithv Agreed!
Bummer on all those you didn’t like! Really want to read Anna Dressed in Blood! 😍
Congrats on 8k!!!!
Thank you so much Alison! 😍
I wannted to read Children of blood and bone, but I also heard some bad reviews about the sequel so now, I am not so sure about it, but the it still sounds compelling. 😃😁
Yeah all the hype kinda died around it, but I’m still definitely interested in the first book! 😍
You know i forgot i bouggt poison Study for someone as a gift
😱 well it sounds like it’s an awesome gift because so many people love the series! 🤩
The Thief is $2.99 on kindle right now!
AHH!! Thank you for letting me know! 🤩
Favorite Booktuber (>^.^)>
Oh thank you so much!!! 😄
I ám curious if you will like Earthsea I didn't like it. The writing was weird for me and I didn't care about the characters só I only read the forest book.
Oooh that’s interesting! Yeah I’ll be curious to see what I think!
Interesting... I think Children of Blood and Bone is rather overhyped. I swear it was everywhere on booktube, book twt, bookstagram, etc
Anna dressed in blood was basically a Supernatural rip-off
I’ve never seen Supernatural!
Nice.
I don't really agree with this list. A few of the books are really hyped like ash princes, children of blood and bone, a winters promise etc. also those have a high rating on goodreads and you see a lot of bookstagrammers talk about these books
This was according to my audience when I asked for them to recommend a book that they wish more people would talk about 🤷♀️
🤩👏🇧🇷
I know this is a while ago, but why did you do an entire video about books you haven't even read yet?
I polled my audience and asked them what their favorite books are that they wish more people talked about and shared them here! I love trying to find recommendations from subscribers!
Hi honey how are you?
Hi George!!
