Welcome to my channel! This is a music reaction channel. For the longest time, I've loved creating content on the internet. I started off with a gaming channel right here on TH-cam, which eventually turned into a Twitch gaming channel, but as time has gone on I've evolved into doing other things on TH-cam. For years now I've wanted to create a music channel on TH-cam, and recently just figured "why not?", so it’s time to give this a go! Give me any suggestion you have for music reactions, and I will do my best to get around to them. As music has fallen further out of my life, I figured this would be a great time to get reintroduced to music.
If you enjoy this video and my reactions make sure you subscribe to the channel, like the video and comment down below which video you would like to see me react to next.
This is a reaction video used to educate and give my feedback on the song and artists.

Nick Cave sung this at Shane’s funeral, he recognised his genius

I read that Shane used to write lyrics and throw away ones he didn’t think were any good . Nick was visiting with him and pulled out some pieces of paper from the basket and this song was one of them ! Nick told him he had to record it and he did ! Maybe that’s why he sang it at Shane’s funeral ! 🇮🇪

What a voice, what a loss, what a legend, lost but never forgotten, Shane McGowan 💌

This is just so beautiful, even more so than "Fairytale". The instrumentation and overall arrangement is sublime. I'd say this is pretty much true to their sound. Traditional Irish music with a punk sensibility, and Shane's gruff delivery and perceptive lyrics.

That's a great description. I agree with all of that.

Thank you for reacting to this one! Great reaction😊♥ I'm glad you chose the official video. To try to answer your question about their sound, I think of the Pogues as Celtic/folk rock with a (sometimes slight) punk edge. Wiki calls them "Celtic punk" and "folk punk." An Irish travel site describes them as "an Irish rock/folk band. Their music combines traditional Irish music with the rock-punk energy of the 80s and 90s, where electric guitars combine perfectly with traditional instruments such as the bodhràn, tin whistle, accordion and mandolin."

Their album Rum Sodomy & the Lash is an absolute masterpiece.
Of their singles, Sally MacLennane is great fun, as is Rain Street. I would recommend those two.
Their covers of Eric Bogle’s And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda and Ewan MacColl’s Dirty Old Town are sublime.

I totally agree with you, Shawn. to my ear I would consider them to be more of a blend of traditional Irish music with elements of folk rock. I believe they miss the genre when they labeled them "punk rock", But I read, it had more to do with the band's high energy and sometimes aggressive performances. And to be fair, it said, "The Spirit of Punk rock" however, they are labeled punk rock. Anyway... Here's another one of their tunes, if interested. "The Pogues - Dirty Old Town" (by the channel: ThePoguesOfficial) This is such a great band. Thanks for your great reactions and wonderful breakdown of the lyrics. I always enjoy rocking with you. peace out~

Shane was a big face on the London punk scene back in the 70s. His first band the Nips are worth checking out, especially the song Gabrielle. The Pogues were very much influenced by the likes of the Clash and the sex pistols.

Flogging Molly is another group to listen to.
The Pogues song, Love You ‘til the End is also great.

One of their gentlest songs, and a beautiful memorable love song with haunting lyric. It's also been covered by Nick Cave on an EP with Shane and Nick covering each other's songs. The Pogues excellently mixed rock and Irish folk. Most of their songs are far more rocking, often with a slight punk edge - to hear one of their more raucous tracks, try either "Sally Maclennane" or "The Sickbed of Cuchulainn". RIP Shane MacG.

Years after I first heard this ‘love song’ I was told it’s about a powers whiskey. 🥃. The ginger lady, the measure of my dreams.
An absolute class track from the poguetry in motion ep.
    Great reaction.

    This was the coronet version.
"If I Should Fall From Grace With God" or "Turkish Song of the Damned" are probably where you should go to next with the Pogues.

Some of their songs are like punk folk. For instance 'The Sick Bed of Cuchulainn' and 'Sally McLennan.'

Try If I Should Fall From Grace With God, Sally McLenane, Bottle Of Smoke or Sick Bed Of Cuchulain for their more upbeat punky side. The Broad Majestic Shannon and Lullaby of London are two beautiful sentimental songs. Dirty Old Town and The Band Played Waltzing Matilda are more folky.

Shawn, great reaction! New subscriber. This version was the coronet. Shane was an amazing Irish poet and singer with The Pogues and later Shane MacGowan and The Popes. His Celtic punk roots were formed as an Irish “ outsider” during formative years spent in London. Johnny Depp ( one of Shane’s pallbearers) made a great documentary on Shane’s life called “ Crock of Gold”, available on some streaming channels. Cheers!!!

I think they were more punk in attitude than music. But a song like Fiesta is more up-tempo and 'punk-like'

I saw them live once, but without Shane, he was too drunk to get on the stage. Must have been '94 or '95 I think, at Dranouter Folk Festival in Belgium

Punk rock attitude? Have you ever heard their song. "Hot Dogs With Everything"? The Pogues crushed punk.

By then Shane had sadly been kicked out of the band by the other members . The’91 concert in Japan ( available on TH-cam) was his last. He formed The Popes a few years later but was still ate-up with the drink then too. Brilliant poet extraordinaire.

This and fairytale are more of their mellow songs, hope you take a dive down this rabbit hole, you won't be disappointed...the auld Scotsman.
