You've done so many videos that I don't know if you've done this... But I would love to see a Carrer recap/History of all the people the player trophies/awards are named after.
2:37: According to Wikipedia, the reason Toronto had to forfeit the game was because it could not field a full team as two brothers on the team were away at their ill father's bedside. The forfeited game could have been replayed after the season ended, but Montreal reneged on the offer to replay the game because as things stood at season end, Montreal would have been tied for the league championship with Ottawa. If they played and lost, Ottawa would have won the title outright. Instead, the teams would move to a two game total goals wins playoff.
When you pause after saying that the team name was the Toranto Ontarios, I said out loud, "That's creative," and when you said the same thing a second later, I couldn't stop laughing.
Interesting video! In view of the upcoming draft and the probable no 1 overall pick, how about a video about the careers of defensemen who were no 1 overall picks?
I've been fan of the NHL since I was a small kid, and I love and know the league's history if the past 3-4 decades pretty well, - but I never bothered to find out more about the early years, cause I thought there was nothing really interesting. I could look into 3-4 teams standings on wiki and think to myself - oh, well, ok, bunch of semi-pros playing games after their main jobs.... But wow, you've proved me so wrong! Thank you for sharing this story, full of drama and twists. I would day, - you could easily write a script of NHL history movie, and it would be a hit!
I love how there is always one troll on all your videos that down votes no matter what the content. Free time must run wild in their life to be so committed to expressing distaste. ANYWAYS, I love all your videos (especially the historic ones). You’re the best hockey analyst on the internet, hands down.
This story had me hooked from the moment you started speaking. I'd actually like to see a movie based on this. Think it could actually be really entertaining.
The $20,400.50 CAD he got in 1926 would be $295,585.51 today. The $7000 CAD he got in 1917 would be $112,421.69 today. So he got $408,007.20 from the other owners. Quite a bit of money. Also the suing players for $200 a piece you mentioned in the 1917-18 video would be $3,212.05 today.
you should do a video on how much they used their sticks as weapons back then and how much they fought each other. I read a few articles a while back and i guess it was almost gladiator type shit but with hockey sticks and skate blades.
Just wanted to drop a suggestion. Was listening to the 31 thoughts podcast and they mentioned teams with super strong draft biases. I wonder if you could go over that. They mentioned some teams will 100% not take Russians which I find very interesting and very silly.
Scott S sometimes it's because those players could potentially be tied down to a khl team, sometimes it's because people still have some outdated views on Russians compete level and what not
Or they just look at the way that some Russians have bolted back to Russia and left their NHL team high and dry with no compensation for the lost player. Not every team wants to risk that sort of a kick.
100th. Thank you, Eddie Livingstone, for being the driving force behind the founding of the NHL, for better or for worse. You'll go down in history kind of in the way that unknown person who stole little Cassius Clay's bike in his boyhood is responsible for Muhammad Ali.
The Toronto Arenas are an expansion team because they weren't a founding member they were added later. They are an expansion team in the same way Detroit, Chicago and the Rangers were expansion teams in 1926 even thought they were technically just the teams from the Western Hockey League the NHL bought and then sold and moved to more convenient locations. It would be the same thing if the 4 WHA teams would have been able to keep their entire roster they would still be considered expansion teams.
Am I the only one wondering how bad did he have to be to be so hated? I understand that no one liked him and he stiffed players out of their salaries and the arena owner out of his rent so it gives me an idea but all that was after the NHL's inception. What did he do before?😉😂
From the first second of the video, he already sounds so ostracized. Anything I read or hear about Livingstone makes him sound like a caricature of himself honestly, it's like he's a cartoon bad guy lol. Only the winners of wars write the history books so I'm not sure how much is fact or fiction
No one remembers a martyr and you do not fight or continue to fight battles you cannot win. It was bad what happened to him, but you should not start out a relationship with other members of a "club" by alienating everyone else Swallow your tongue and pride.
eddie must have defiled one of the other owners daughters, or something. maybe one of their sons ?? if everyone hated him. there must have been a reason !!
The thing I want to know is. Why the hell did they hate this man so much? Like what was the reason this single man was so reviled to the point we have the NHL thanks to this man’s transgressions.
Imagine if the NHL had similar names to the Toronto Ontarios, like, for example: the Calgary Albertas, the Los Ángeles Californias or the Detroit Michigans.
Sorry on a very unrelated note: can one be unbanned from a Channel if they were banned without warning and did not harass or bother anyone, nor do they represent their actions. Will you have to email channel or is their a timeline. It’s not related to this channel and I’m just looking for opinions here as we are all a community. My friend told me he once replied and said the league was rigged unknowingly when the channel was smaller and got banned, he said he never got likes or replies so I just messaged for him cause I know he’s banned
I never banned anyone for saying the league was rigged once. I banned people during the playoffs for constant claims that the league was rigged. The league isn't rigged. I don't hand out warnings because it doesn't work. If people think the league is rigged, and they are convinced of it, then why would they even want to be on a hockey related TH-cam channel?
The Hockey Guy I know that the league can’t be rigged as hockey is such a fast paced sport and to fix it is impossible. I told the kid the same and now he knows the league isn’t rigged because everything he said turned up to be false. But he keeps asking me to tell you to unban him cause he likes to comment on this channel. I’m sorry for this hassle and I am amazed you came out to reply. That is so cool that you look at almost all comments while having almost more than 15,000 subscribers, great channel and hope to see you grow very big
I love the fact that the only reason the NHL is just 100 years old is because every other owner hated one guy enough to make their own league
Hockey Guy please cover the New York Americans saga. You think the Livingstone saga has alot of backroom shenanigans then you will love this team.
That was quite the whirlwind lmao. I've been watching hockey for almost ten years and I've never heard this story, but I'm so glad I finally have
But Shamrocks is kind of a cool name, though.
Maybe the other 30 owners will create a new league against Eugene Melnyk and call it the NHNML (National Hockey Not Melnyk Leauge)
Or just kick Melnyk out of his team and have him try and create his own league.
The Xtreme Hockey League with McMahon
Melnyk will be "He Hate Me"
Eddie 2.0
Well researched. Nice job
love hockey history. these history videos turned me into a subscriber. Thanks for great content. Totally stoked to skate tomorrow morning.
Gary bettman is taking notes.
I'm pretty sure its Eugene Melnyk taking notes on how to become a crappier owner.
This is so petty and childish, but dammit was I chuckling this whole video!
I can see the headline now: "The Toronto Screw-Livingstones have won the Stanley Cup."
This guy should have a biographical movie made about his life or something.
Edwin Esposito truth
Who? Shannon? Yeah but down the line a bit. First Shadow and Lilybell need to do their origin stories.
...I meant Livingstone.
You've done so many videos that I don't know if you've done this... But I would love to see a Carrer recap/History of all the people the player trophies/awards are named after.
I second this. who is art ross? who are these people
Art Ross was the first coach to pull his goalie for an extra attacker.

New yearly award: Eddie Livingstone Trophy awarded to most despised team owner.
Jonathan Bisanti so melynk wins every year?
This was a great story. I known I would love this stuff. Also on a unrelated note, congratulations Florida Panthers on 25 years of hockey.
More of these pls
I second this
When you pause after saying that the team name was the Toranto Ontarios, I said out loud, "That's creative," and when you said the same thing a second later, I couldn't stop laughing.
The tale of a bunch of petty rich men XD All of this is incredibly laughable and entertaining. I enjoyed this a ton.
What a wonderfully put together history that I had no idea about!!
This was one of the greatest hockey stories ever
I love the Toronto Toronto's,no messing around here and straight to the point,Eddie Livingstone and the Toronto Toronto's rule! Bob.
Great names but nothing can compete with the number one trophy name in the world; The Cup Winners Cup. Who came up with that one?
Wow. Funniest hockey guy video I've seen, and really funny story about Eddie. Awesome.
what a great video shannon, thanks for making this!

This was such a great video!! I love hearing all the crazy hockey stories throughout history. So interesting!
Very entertaining and informative video! Thanks Shannon!
but like... WHY did everyone hate him? how did that start?
This could be the start of an ongoing series.
Interesting story to tell. Thanks Shannon!
Hahahaha this video is my favorite video on this channel now. Hilarious. Came from the latest history of changes video.
Used to be the Winnipeg Winnpegs in early days of Canadian football ... was a wide spread problem apparently
I love how there is always one troll on all your videos that down votes no matter what the content. Free time must run wild in their life to be so committed to expressing distaste. This was a really, really good video!
Thanks for all the insights and awesome infos I don´t get over here... sincerely a german hockey fan
be great to hear more on Eddie Shore. Fab story of how he drove from Boston to Montreal overnight to get to the arena 1 hr before the game.
This is a funny story, thanks for sharing!
I couldn't stop smiling through this whole video, what an interesting figure!
Ha Ha Ha , I'm liking Livingstone.
This livingstone fella reminds me of Gary Bettman.
James Kelby = winner of the internet (for the day)
ps eff you Betteman
Can you make a video with some type of a flow chart of "How the NHL came to be?"
(*ex. NHA --> NHL / WHA to WHL Joining the NHL etc...)
Story never gets old
Go toronto ontario's goGo toronto ontario's go
Chris Hulse hey now... let’s not get a riot started. You know how those Montreal wanderers get..
Totally reminds me of Jim Baillsillie
This was great!
you should do a video on how much they used their sticks as weapons back then and how much they fought each other. I read a few articles a while back and i guess it was almost gladiator type shit but with hockey sticks and skate blades.
Thank you for the history. good research
Great video man!
Eddie won a cup as an owner and didn’t win the cup as an owner at the same damn time!
Didn't get a notification for this upload for some reason
this man is too good!
This is honestly too good.
This is an excellent video thanks :)

Did you find anything that said what the problem was or why he didn't get along with so many people?
Haha this is a great video! Love it!
This would be a great The Dollop episode
100th. Thank you, Eddie Livingstone, for being the driving force behind the founding of the NHL, for better or for worse. You'll go down in history kind of in the way that unknown person who stole little Cassius Clay's bike in his boyhood is responsible for Muhammad Ali.

So Melnik is following tradition.
Am I the only one wondering how bad did he have to be to be so hated? I understand that no one liked him and he stiffed players out of their salaries and the arena owner out of his rent so it gives me an idea but all that was after the NHL's inception. What did he do before?😉😂
Is anyone else reminded of Trump?

If Indy Neidell was a hockey fan he would put Eddie Livingstone on the Dicktionary
This was fun
You sounded that you loved telling this story so funny
No one remembers a martyr and you do not fight or continue to fight battles you cannot win. It was bad what happened to him, but you should not start out a relationship with other members of a "club" by alienating everyone else Swallow your tongue and pride.

Lol you're obsessed with this Livingstone story now😄
We laugh at the name the Ontario’s, but let me remind that the Houston Texans exist.
The need to give Melnyk the same treatment. LOL
Can you do a mock draft THG?
This was so funny!!
Surprised this isn't more popular of a story. Who do you think is the least linked owner?
This is absolutely hilarious
Video idea - you should let younger viewers know the story of Brian "Spinner" Spencer.
20,400 dollars is about 300,000 dollars today
This guy reminds me of the Simpsons' No Homer's Club
O do a vid on the almost Hamilton team .
This one might be my favorite one by far with a cup of coffee way too funny
An even worse version of Al Davis versus the National Football League.
It's the No Homers Club
Do I see a draft overview video on the board?
Hes had that for a long time
FlexEnvy32 odd I just noticed
Imagine if the NHL had similar names to the Toronto Ontarios, like, for example: the Calgary Albertas, the Los Ángeles Californias or the Detroit Michigans.
LUIS MARTÍN Dallas Texas-s
When the Yotes move to Houston they should call them the Houston Texans... oh wait
Seattle Washingtons
Alaska Gnomes
Manitoba Gimlies
1:38 Lol

Hey this is my great great uncle can you not talk to about him like this
This is seriously like the He-Man Woman Haters Club.
Gteat Job!!!! Eddie must really have been a Dick!!!
Shannon better dab at 50k
