So this is like-if Dan Snyder were so damaging and painful to deal with that The other NFL owners founded a new football league just to get rid of Dan Snyder?
Wow. How, cold, petty and brilliant.

If I recall correctly, the NBA did get rid of that awful Clippers owner, but he got what many thought was way more than their value in the sale.

@@closethockeyfan5284 Donald Sterling was The Clippers owner. He was known as a slum lord and cartoon villain of a nasty man. IIRC, Sterling was caught on tape saying and displaying racism without shame. So Sterling had to go.
As far as the value of the sale. It's rare that a pro sports team is put up for sale. Leagues are also very exclusive in how they approve and admit owners. So Steve Ballmer paying $2 Billion wasn't a suprise.

This is the hockey equivalent of cutting Homer from the Stonecutters. 😋 Very similar thing happened in the 90's in Britain when the (short lived) superleague was set up and the initial proposal cut out several big teams whilst including a few smaller ones who didn't want to be in it. A joke rumour even went round that Manchester and Sheffield would play each other 48 times with the top 2 progressing to the playoffs! 😉

Sounds similar to what they did to Jim Balsillie when he tried to bring the NHL to Hamilton. If you want to be an NHL owner, you'd better be prepared to pucker up. Granted, Livingstone sounds like he was a complete jerk, so it makes sense that the other owners wouldn't want anything to do with him, but wow.

I don't know who is the bad guy here.
To be honest back when i saw the first video, i was on Eddies side.
And well i still am. I feel bad for him to get fcked with so much.
I get that he must have been an irritating person. But there is a general rule in the world.
"Don't be a dick". And especially you don't mess around with someones livelyhood or passions. That is just cruel.
At some point the NHl should have let him be. Be the bigger people.
And i don't know what he did in perticular that was so bad. An example of such would have been perfect.

The year 1916 has a ton of sports movie worthy stories:
    This Story
    The 222-0 College Football Game
The Minor League Baseball Game that ended in 34 minutes
The Collapse of the Federal League
    The Philadelphia Athletics going 36-117
I'm sure I missed something but that is a lot of weird stuff

    • @abrahamlincoln9758

The 222-0 story is probably the most insane thing to ever happen in sports. And I say sports, because the story starts in baseball and ends in football. The moral of the story: don't run up the score on John Heisman.

There was an owner in the NFL by the name of Hugh Culverhouse, who became the owner of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1976. I compared him to Harold Ballard as he was as cheap as Ballard, and shared Ballard's mindset of only caring about winning. Culverhouse would often bribe players and coaches to invest in projects that weren't being constructed yet, and those concepts ended up falling through. The Buccaneers were a hellhole of a team. First round pick after first round pick was traded in order to fix up a position. And the franchise paid heavily for these moves. It wasn't until after Culverhouse's death in 1994 that the Buccaneers started playing better, much like the Leafs after Ballard's passing. Though the Bucs have something the Leafs are still searching for. A championship title.
Eddie Livingstone would have been those two owners combined if he had still been a part of the league back then, as well as the others that you mentioned.
