I think the most disturbing aspect of this scene still is the fact that they make it clear time is of the essence to 'juice her(don't even wanna imagine were the juice comes out)' or she'll explode. But then the Oompa Loompas go on to just take their marry ol' time and sing a song.

And that last little kick just as the oompa loompas roll her away
All while feeling the pressure of the juice building up inside her body
You can see her hands pressed in on her sides in a couple shots like she's trying to hold herself together because she can feel it
And the fact that he's completely calm about what's going on. That is, until near the end when Charlie and his grandpa are in Wonka's office getting yelled at for "stealing fizzy lifting drinks".
Well, he was testing Charlie and wanted him to be the one to win…

Chris Mike he's seen it all happen before... O_O that's a scary thought. Yet he's so calm about it. Its almost like hes thinking "there's nothing I can do to stop it from happening anyway, so why even bother worrying?"
Her father actually sound enthusiastic, not freaked out.

After he says "Explodes?!", I expect him to say "Cool!".

Okay, does anyone notice Veruca's reaction to Violet's blueberry inflation?? I was watching the movie a couple of weeks ago and actually started paying attention to the other kids during this scene. Veruca actually has a mixed reaction, she looks bewildered while Violet is turning blue, then while Violet is being rolled back and forth, she stays close to her dad. It's as if her wheels are turning enough to say, "I'm glad I didn't take the gum and I'd be so embarrassed if that happened to me. What if it did happen to me??"
I've always wondered about those books where the outcome of the character you're reading can change, based on which page you turn to. The book could've totally gone that direction and switched the demise fates between Violet and Veruca. Violet would've gone down the garbage chute and Veruca would've had an absolute cow being embarrassed that she's an over-sized blueberry, or cherry for that matter, based on the color of the outfit. That, or both girls could have fallen for the same thing, but Veruca ended up with the version of the gum that had cherry pie/cherry cobbler.
I noticed
My mom actually thought it WAS Veruca who turned into a blueberry! I then corrected her and told her that Veruca was only witnessing it. I also told her that it was Violet who turned into a blueberry.
I noticed.
Veruca and Violet didn’t get on…but she generally shows to be very concerned when she sees Violet turning into a blueberry because she keeps turning to her Father with a rather shocked face.

Well he did tell her not to chew that gum and so he let darwinism run its course.
Especially before that, he reveals that he didn’t get the candy test subject correct yet until violet, ignored him and swiped it off.
Violet's being too arrogant to be reason with. So that's why Wonka expressed like that.

It's hot and creamy
Yes, Wonka is so calm about the whole situation but in his defense, he did say he didn't get the gum quite right and Violet snatched it away anyway. Wonka even said "I wouldn't do that" and she continued to ignore him so in a way Wonka's attitude is more like "Yep, I told you so. You get what you deserve" with the whole "always goes wrong when it comes to the desserts" line.
He's so calm through the whole situation

I think I know what's wrong with that gum. It's not really a complete dinner. Tomato soup, roast beef, a baked potato, and blueberry pie? All that food and yet nothing to wash it down with. Nothing to drink. That's what the gum is missing. A drink.

The ones in the new movie dont' really, BUT you can actually read the lyrics of those songs in the actual book, so in that sense, the new songs are I guess more like what Roald Dahl was trying to purvey to the reader.....

I think I know how to get Violet to spit the gum out. Make it a four course dinner gum.
1. Soup
2. Roast Beef/Baked Potato
3. *some kind of vegetables* (The only thing about that is the other two courses would have to be different. It would have to be a different kind of soup, and I don't know about the baked potato.)
4. dessert
That makes me think about what the movie should be like. The kids might still be bratty, but, instead of killing them off, he would make the four kids play some kind of game, and I mentioned above would be an example. (If Violet spit out the gum, she would lose, but if she made it to the desert, (which she wouldn't) she would win.)
If she did what she was told, she wouldn't have turned into a blueberry.
And she also wouldn't have gotten 13 cavities.
And she also wouldn't have a tirp to the diesnet
