- I picked this unit up brand new from Western Depot online. I had been looking for an Intermountain SD40-2 in MKT colors. When I first saw them they were all over the place and then it seems they just dissappeared from websites and eBay stores. I guess it was a somewhat limited run. Anyways I found one and picked it up. However it has not been without issue.

They only had the one and you got it ! When I looked, they had Rock Island and MKT and MKT was gone about July, August and now here it is !
When I bought this one they had two in stock, different road #'s.
Hey Shane, Lubbock here, I'm back hooked on N scale again!working on a prototypical Intermodal BNSF right now. got my first train at 4 in 1974 in Ft Worth. then again in 2005 I bought a bit but couldnt afford scenery, but today I know a lot about scale modeling and have 3D printers for scenery and love to tinker. I'm tyring to get some vintage Locos going now and I'm building a layout at 85" high to go throughout the house like Mr Rodgers and out to my shop to a small layout and fiddle board. That’s awesome! I’m still plugging away VERY slowly on my first layout. I haven’t touched it in a few months, though
Hey Shane Awesome Engine the MKT was in Kansas & I live in Kansas I live in Hutchinson we're the BNSF & UP passes through the Western Depot has got some good stuff if your Engine is still having some issues you might Run some Inox mx3 Track cleaner on the Rails & with a cleaning Rag I use a Eye Ware cleaning Rags to keep the Lint down I use the Rag & Inox to clean the Wheels the Inox Removes the Oxidation on the Rails there are a Few Videos of modlers using inox Gregg of Fishplate Films who has a fairly good sized layout and his Go to Track cleaner is Inox he won't use IPA isopropyl Alcohol Inox is a Product of Australia but is easily available through Amazon Some Hobby Stores may carry it Shane..
I got mine through Amazon it comes in a Spray Can but is also Available in Small Bottle like Labells, Small applicators can be attached to the Bottle to apply the product onto a Rag then onto the Rails its helped my Layout Greatly..
But the Engine sounds Great looks Great lets see more of it Allen D
Hey Allen. I have been using odorless mineral spirits to clean the track. That's what everybody has said to use. I'll look into some of that Alcohol Inox stuff.
I hope you have better luck than I did with Broadway Limited International. Out of 3 locomotives only one is running, I didn't even get to operate them the 2 stopped and with not run anymore.
BLI has been decent to me so far. A small issue with a Paragon4 switcher that doesn't seem to have the keepalive they claim it should.
Ive got the MoPac SD40-2. I like these intermountain locos very much. I broke down and bought an airbrush and decals to make MKT GP40's from random other roads with no dynamic brakes. Good to see a local guy on the web!
I'm not good enough with an aurbrush or any of that else i'd probably have made a bunch of MKT units as well. I've got one Atlas. I think it's a GP38, without dynamic brakes. It may be a GP40 but i'm pretty sure it's a 38.
I feel ya, Shane, Katy has always been my favorite road name. Have plenty of Katy hats and such but no locos.
I've got an engineers hat and a few pins and patches. There just isn't as much stuff out there for MKT as there is for say, Santa Fe.
