Tonya Rolin haha I'm from MA and my Midwestern mother in law asked if i had any "pop" at dinner one day and i never realized people actually said that. And my favorite aunt was from Georgia and i feel like she spoke in riddles. People from the northeast use very plain, stark language and we swear all the time. My aunt used to hate that. But in my travels as a grown up ice realized that up here you can't go in public for two minutes and not hear a swear dropped. We are the world's capital of casual profanity. I accidentally dropped the f bomb at a gas station in Oklahoma and some lady my age asked if i "missed my mother with that mouth" ha ha ha what...

I love this series I live in South Carolina and have heard most all of the sayings at least once in my life. Especially at family reunions. Like most Southerners I come from a large family with a lot of southern belles. Love Y'all !!!
We Southerner's say in regard to a precocious child, "Why, she's a mess." You can't say that to anyone outside the South,they take it literally.
I tell people they are a mess all the time, when they are hilariously funny or always getting into dilemmas or do things to make me shake my head. Those people are just a mess!

When I lived in San Diego everyone would ask me to talk Southern to them. I was waiting tables and learned that if I needed to make fast cash I'd make Scarlett O'Hara sound like a Yankee. They loved the accent and the tips showed it!

My aunt was from the south and she would always complain about how much people in New York and New England would swear. As an Adult, I've noticed that she has a point. Southerners and Midwesterners are comparably conservative with their choice of words but generous with phrases. In the area I'm from, you don't hear colorful phrases and adages, just "holy ****", and "what a ******" and such. My aunt used to have clever little phrases she said, and i haven't heard anyone say Bless your Heart since she died ten years ago. That was my favorite, but i guess i never understood what it meant until now ha ha ha
Bein raised up in Louisiana...I've said more than 3/4 of these.
And now that I live in the Semi-North (as in, they Don't Know What to Do with Green Mater!) My favorite thing to say, in my *kindest* Southern voice, is my..."Well, Bless your little ol heart"

Cat Momma my favorite thing to do when I go up north to visit my dad’s side of the family is to say “Bless your heart.” I’m from Texas and don’t really have much of an accent, the only giveaways are that I say “y’all” and “Fixin’ to.” Whenever I say “Bless your heart” my dad looks at me like “THERE IS NO NEED FOR YOUR SASS RIGHT NOW.”
