I am telugu and came to know about Chembai in 2009 when I was searching for Bantu reeti kolu. Chembai garu has a different kind of sharp voice which appeals to my ears especially when he sings songs with words like Bantu reeti. TH-cam is re-introducing this 1896 born talent to the world.
My mother too learnt from his sysyan M.S. Shivaraman. She is 86 years old now and still sings and remembers the lines clearly. Chembai and the singers in those times were blessed by the Gods themselves, like Arunagirinathar who composed the Tirupughaz... We are atleast blessed to hear it in our generation, thanks to internet and technology.
For those who don't know, from 11:05 to 11:17 , Its not a fault of the tape, but Shri Chembai is singing it in that speed. I have heard from people with old gramophone records who used to slow that spot down and then they could hear the swarams being sung clearly. He is one of the fastest singers that I know.

I used to get to listen to Chembai Swami's kacheri on the only radio at home, with brand name Echo...something like that....

Will the God give a rebirth and bless the current genaration, What a Clarity in words, pronounciation, great perfection of originality of swarams, thalam above all saareeram (golden voice), creativity and imagination in presentation, all in excellence. It is known that Padma Vibhushan is the highest national award to music, The level shd be taken to Bharat Ratna for honouring this great legend to be studded in the history for future generation
Chembai's Raghuvara in kamavardhini(pantuvarali) has been the outstanding rendering till date. What a great musician he was, to be remembered and cherished by anyone above 65. I heard him singing without mike in Srinivasa sastrigal hall, in luz Chennai, decades back still lingering in my ears. He was the gift by lord Guruvaruppan.

The entire collection are songs that used to be broadcast on AIR Hyderabad under the 30 min program 'Sangeetha Sudha' in the 70s and 80s. The program featured all the stalwarts of Carnatic Music of those decades in some random rotation.
