We have experienced removing the handle of an ax with epoxy glue, we use a drill to drill it down and then use a chisel to remove the handle and epoxy glue it out. It can be done without worry.

He taught me how to hang an axe with it and I've kept it oiled and sharp since. You get no benefits from using glue or epoxy. It just seals out oil and makes rehanging tougher.
@@jaykessler1084 the trick is using fire to burn the inside of the axe to free it from anything. Just make sure to bury the edge in the ground while burning so not tu soften the metal and compromise the durability.
This is a perfect way of putting on a handle' it will last forever and he turned it into a work of art at the same time. Some people in the comments are just jealous because they don't have the imagination and skills to do such fine work but will copy this method and claim it for their own.

@@poomsproject Когда-то мы отдыхали в горах, так там у местных лесорубов топоры были насажены на рукоять сзади, рукоять расширялась конусом в сторону обуха топора, и топор при всем своём желании, не смог бы слететь с рукояти. И ,как они объясняли, так делали и деды, прадеды, и на кирках и на мотыгах.
Наверно поперечные клинышки (тёмное дерево) сделаны для дополнительной амортизации (упругости) у обуха топора. Иначе топорище - очень быстро лопнет. Я с таким сталкивался уже.

Но мозгов хватило понять, что древесина ДЕФОРМИРУЕТСЯ. Я тогда на заводе работал. Насадил молоток, залил сверху эпокситку и в термокамеру на полтора часа при 60°. Потом я сменил место работы. Возникла проблема с топором, колуном. Топор также на эпокситку но нагревать как? Клал на электроплитка и нагревал. Ну нахрен, клей стекает. Тогда ещё не было газовых горелок с баллончиком. Настало время насадить колун. Я поставил его вертикально и щедро сверху полил клеем серии " Момент". У меня всегда под рукой " Влагостойкий". Через 2 часа ещё раз повторил. На следующий день колол дрова. Вот уже девять лет проблем не знаю. А нагрузка на колун куда как больше, чем на топор. И главное, никто не верит. Показывал, рассказывал. Знакомый насаживал топор. Сверху эпокситку полил, но не нагревал. На следующий день отскочило. Ну, каждый сам себе Буратино, а я буду папа Карло.

We've had the experience of removing old handles with epoxy glue. We took a drill down first followed by a chisel to extract the epoxy glue and the old handle. It's not very difficult to do.
@Poom's Project haha I was totally joking. If it holds the axe head on there tight & gets the job done, then I have no issues with how people hang their axes. There are many axe enthusiasts out there who think it's an affront to everything holy if you use glue, epoxy, or anything other than friction & boiled linseed oil to hang an axe. 🤷 You're doing a great job 👍
If you have to use epoxy when fitting a axe head to a handle with a wedge you're doing it wrong. If there is room between the handle and axe head that needs to be filled by epoxy its eventually gonna fail and the head is going to go flying off. The correct way is to carve and shape the wood handle to fit snug inside the head as possible then use a wedge to make it extremely snug compressing the wood against the inside to axe head. This is just dumb doing it like this.

@@poomsproject I don't need to watch a full length video of you doing the same thing not fitting the axe handle to the inside of the axe head filling the voids with epoxy to take up the extra room where there's no wood of the handle. The wedges push the handle out at the top a good bit, pretty good in the center, but below that they don't push as much and that's why the wood handle needs to fill that space as completely and tightly as possible. That area toward the bottom of the axe head doesn't expand as much from the wedge because the wedge is smaller on that end as it bottoms out. So instead of fitting the handle to the inside of the axe head where the wedge can do its job, you've filled the void with epoxy that as used with the constant slamming and changing temperature the axe goes through in its use, the epoxy will break down over time and loosen up allowing the head to start to move around and slowly working the wedges out. If you properly fit the handle to take the space of the axe head and then put the wedge in it in the correct way, it will stay until you take it apart with no need of epoxy. The only reason you need the epoxy and the two perpendicular wedges on the sides of the large wedge is laziness of a job done half ass. No I won't be watching your video to see that done again.

Yes it’s just not necessary. It also makes the wood that takes the most punishment during use more brittle

Try soaking it is liseed or another oil. It swells and there is no need for epoxy. Also, rust proofs from the inside out.

Различные клеи люди применяют очень давно,варили из костей из кожи и костей рыб,так называемый рыбий клей,водостойкий и очень прочный.

@@poomsproject I don't need to watch a full length video of you doing the same thing not fitting the axe handle to the inside of the axe head filling the voids with epoxy to take up the extra room where there's no wood of the handle. The wedges push the handle out at the top a good bit, pretty good in the center, but below that they don't push as much and that's why the wood handle needs to fill that space as completely and tightly as possible. That area toward the bottom of the axe head doesn't expand as much from the wedge because the wedge is smaller on that end as it bottoms out. So instead of fitting the handle to the inside of the axe head where the wedge can do its job, you've filled the void with epoxy that as used with the constant slamming and changing temperature the axe goes through in its use, the epoxy will break down over time and loosen up allowing the head to start to move around and slowly working the wedges out. If you properly fit the handle to take the space of the axe head and then put the wedge in it in the correct way, it will stay until you take it apart with no need of epoxy. The only reason you need the epoxy and the two perpendicular wedges on the sides of the large wedge is laziness of a job done half ass. No I won't be watching your video to see that done again.
