  • This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. In this talk, Pierre teaches the art of respect through ballroom dancing in a world of technology, isolation, and human interaction.
    Pierre Dulaine has transformed his life and others through sharing the art of ballroom dancing with the world. His most important challenge hit closer to home - when he decided to return to Jaffa to teach Jewish and Palestinian Israeli children how to “dance with the enemy” in the documentary “Dancing in Jaffa”.
    About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

    Pierre is an AMAZING person! I am living proof of this - my life has been forever changed, for the better, due to dance, and having had the privilege of being trained by him. The rewards of dancing and teaching are PRICELESS. Thanks Mr Pierrrrrrrre! :-)

    Mr Dulaine. A million blessing to you sir. You are one of life's truly beautiful human beings with a heart that is pure and decent. Your love, your commitment, your passion and your desire to bring good to where there is bad is so noble and inspiring. Your gift is dance and your sharing it has brought so much good. I was once one of those children you describe. No self confidence, no self esteem, troubled, awkward, insular, angry, afraid. At 14 years of age I found Ballroom dancing and it completely transformed my life for the better. I know without question if it were not for ballroom dancing, I would not be sitting here now writing this. The world so desperately needs more Pierre Dulaines.

    In quarantine, my heart is aching for some slow ball room dancing just by hearing this, I think I'll just learn it alone and dance with my imaginary partner. 💜💜I hope it will change my life too.(13 april 2020)

    It was a wonderful honor to teach with Dancing Classrooms in NYC and work with Mr Dulaine, Yvonne Marceau and their team. Their teaching style is a wonderful model for life. Live as you dance: with pride, respect for yourself and others, a touch of humor.

    I'm currently in a introduction to dance class. This video was so beautiful. I remember the movie and loved it! If people just treated each other with respect despite the differences, this world would be a much better place to live.

    This is awesome, except for one thing. STOP teaching that only men can lead and women must follow. This is absurd. I am a woman, and I do both, and I primarily lead. I will never participate in a dance community that requires that I follow or disallows me to lead on the basis of my gender.

    • @richlomakin

      Aprinsa,are you a Dance Teacher? If not then stop making such uninformed comments. You may always dance with yourself or your girlfriend. Enjoy!

    • @musicalflow_skillslab
      @musicalflow_skillslab 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      :-) I actually stopped teaching that. But for a different reason.
      Aprinsa, You are right that there should be no gender issues at dancing and if there still are some, there will be none any more in the future. If there are many people who do not understand that leading is not a one-way communication, then this means that there are many teachers who really could do a better job.
      The kind of communication which is core to partner dancing can actually be experienced best in it's pure state, without additional roles like "lead" and "follow". Especially for a beginner couple this also is the only way to have real communication in their dancing. And fun with it, of course, that's why we came for :-)

      Men should lead because that's how ballroom dancing works, if you don't like it don't dance.
