Beautifully done. Video and explanations were wonderfully easy to follow.
I probably could have figured this out myself, but with this video, you pointed out a few pitfalls that would have cost me time.
    Thank you for doing this.

Perfect. This morning I replaced one on the exact same construction as yours, but I should have disconnected the connector like you did to make it much easier.

Will a third party thermostat exactly similar to this one work? The only difference from what I can tell is the label color from the original is orangeish/redish (idk). The ones I find online all have white labels. Stupid question, I know. This is my first appliance attempt ever

thanks for this video, I was able to change it myself and save $$. 1 suggestion. When ordering the part it may not come with the white sleeve as shown. Mine didn't. I removed the sleeve from the old one and put it on the new one,, very easy.

Notes: It was mentioned that in addition to the temperature sensing bulb on the thermostat knob (or cold control, etc.) it has a set on contacts inside that control the operation of the compressor as well as the fan circuit. Notice how he mentions the drain tube on this model is at the back of the control panel. This doesn't make sense for a side by side refrigerator, but it does make sense for this model because it is a top-bottom refrigerator. If you look closely, you'll see that when the water melts from off the evaporator, it falls into the top of the fridge compartment at the control panel where it is then routed down a tube into the condensate drain pan at the bottom of the unit. If you ever see a piece of foil on the control panel and wonder what must be underneath it, in this case it is just the light bulb; no special circuitry or microchips await. Another good tip is, if you don't want to put in an extra minute to try hard to remember how to route the capillary tube (which is the temperature sensing bulb, or the temperature sensor), then you can use a sharpie marker to trace just about where it gets routed to and from. Also any kinks or sharp bends in the capillary tube (temp sensor "wire") will or may damage or disable the part.

After having thermostat replaced by a technician because fridge was not working at all, the fridge is not cooling and freezer is not freezing as good as before . It seems that it's working cycluses are too short. I noticed that the technician had made a sharp bend on the temperature sensing tube near the end, just before the hole where it goes back into the housing (it's the same model as in this video). Could that be the reason? Would it help to just straighten the tube ?

how do you know the thermostat is bad?

It's not. Just buy a new fridge instead of wasting money on parts that aren't going to fix anything.
